I can't remember which book it was but I remember Neville saying something about his extended family also worrying about him not being a wizard and his uncle was hanging him upside down out a window to shake some magic out of him when he accidently dropped him and Neville just bounced off the ground and that's how they knew he was a wizard.
So I'm pretty sure all of Nevilled family are magical.

And I'm with you Lindz, I wish I had someone to share my obsession with. Thank god we have this thread!

So I remember in the 5th book that Nelville and Harry have a connection... their birthday is the same, right? And I remember reading (vaguely) that Voldemort is on the opposite end of someone with that birthday or something. Voldy will automatically assume it's Harry because of his downfall, but what if Voldy has the wrong guy? Maybe the other all powerful hero is actually Nelville. And somehow this is played up in the 7th book, Nelville is killed with Voldemort and Harry survives in guilt. (Whew... way too much time on my hands...)

I had to quote myself from an earlier post because I saw THIS recently:

i wonder if there's any credence to that rumor about Neville being the real destined opponent of Voldemort because of the fact that he shares a birthday with Harry...but then i feel like that would make the whole series a gigantic waste of time since it's leading up to an apparent showdown between Voldemort and Harry.
AXOKatie, glad to know we are sorta on the same wavelength... but then again, like someone else said, it wouldn't agree with the series. After all, Harry is the supposed hero... why would Nelville take his claim to fame? :D ;) And why would Dumbeldore tell him all that stuff at the end of OotP?

Argh... I simply can't wait any longer for this series to complete. Need book 6 now!

I don't know if anyone else has been reading the speculation on the leaky cauldron, but people on there have some VERY strange ideas. And so many people STILL say that Voldemort will be the half-blood prince, even after JK has said that he's not. Someone even said that JK supposedly told peope at a book signing that Dobby is the HBP... All i can say to that is.... WHAT??? LOL, am I the only one who thinks that makes no sense? For starters, why would she just TELL people something that big after she has been so secretive about everything? I'm thinking that whole story is a hoax. Anyway, if you want to read some WAY out there speculation, go to the leaky cauldron. :)

I think that Neville will play a big role in books 6 and 7. After all, he is in Gryffindor. If he was going to insignificant (on the whole) to the story, I think that he would have been placed in Hufflepuff. Also, she would bring up how his parents were such great Aurors. I think that there's a lot of great wizarding ability in Neville, he's just kinda been intimidated by his Gran.

As far as who the HBP is, I have no idea. She might introduce a new character. That almost seems more likely to me, because, as far as I can remember, she hasn't really stressed the backgrounds of the other half-blood boys.

I absolutely cannot wait for this book, but I know that I'll read it within 2 days of its release (just like I did with OotP), and then be on edge for the 7th book.

I need to go back and read 5, but I thought Harry and Neville were just born the same summer, not on the same day.

Here's a theory a friend of mine came up with:

Seamus Finnegan (or perhaps Dean or Dudley or ... ) is placed under the imperious curse or otherwise convinced to begin to recruit new death eaters from Hogwarts and in exchange is promised the second in command spot, hence is the "prince." Sort of Wormtail all over again.

I BELEIVE it just says that they were both born at the end oF July, but I could be remembering it wrong. If I am, someone correct me. :)

You are correct!

" Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies...the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies..." (OotP, 841).

My mom is convinced that there is another Potter child, an older one, who the Potters hid before they went into hiding with Harry. Natuarally, they had to keep Harry because he was an infant. She thinks this older Potter child is bitter because of the fame of Harry, so he will be the Prince to Lord Voldemort.

MysticCat81: there is an editorial on mugglenet.com that Heroimine is under the Imperious. It lists reasons why, might want to check that out.

ETA: I think Neville will be better at his magic, because if I'm remeber correctly, didn't he remark something like his gran was going to kill him because he broke his father's wand? I think once Neville get HIS own wand, he will be much better

Mark Evans perhaps? :) There's a poll on jkrowling.com right now about what she can tell us about next. Mark Evans was winning when I voted last night. I'd love to hear more about him. She never puts things in her books for no reason, I think he has to be related to Harry somehow.

Thanks for the clarifications Lindz and DolphinChica.

And I will have to look for that editorial.

It can't be Mark Eans because he is younger than Harry. Which means he could not be the child of Lily and James as they were already dead before Mark was born.

Where was Mark Evans mentioned? I don't remember that name... (the last name let's me know who he is related to though which would make the theory fly.)

**really need to read book 5 again...**

In the beginning of book 5. He's a muggle boy in the Dursley's neighborhood.

He may not be Harry's brother, but he has to be related to Harry. A cousin perhaps. Unless she was planting a really big red herring, I don't think JKR would have given him the name Evans if it and he didn't have significance.

In OoTP, Dean Thomas says that he is muggle born
