It's a local decision, but even if more than one group is invited to colonize, they usually space out the colonization process so as not to tax resources on campus.

Thanks!

Somebody needs to hose down this thread....

Russ,

As Director of Expansion for DPhiE, I find it unbelievable that you are so knowledgable about our DB. It must be a valuable talent to look into cyberspace and see that there are not 100 alumnae but just 87 in the geo-select of 323xx. Well done! I am sure you are well versed on this university but you truly did make a lot of GC people feel like crap, including one of my sorority's most valuable NO. So, shame on you for that.

As for the opportunity of expansion here, clearly all the groups who sent packets are interested and most, if not all are dormant there. Whether any group has more "assets" than another will be mulled over by the PH. I am a bit appalled at how "open" this process is for all to see on greekchat. The open campus style of it is even a little odd (viewing of all the packets) but it is even more open here. I am also very uneasy at the information about GL that was definitely not clearly stated in the NPC Bulletin and could definitely sway an invited group to decline the invitation to present, if extended. Missing information from a university or panhel can definitely change a groups perception of an opportunity. I was just invited to present my sorority to another NPC expansion opportunity campus in FL. After gaining additional information post-invitation, I withdrew my sorority's interest in presenting. It happens.

Any group who gets invited to present should be thrilled and my best wishes to go out to all. I hope that the sister of GL as well as the hundreds of unaffiliated women find a home in a wonderful new sorority, now or in the future.

Denise

I have a question.
It is possible for ABC Sorority to come to FSU via NPC and bascially blanket bid the local Gamma Lambda right? Like they would use the group as a core and then do open interviews to fill more spots. or am i just confused? Thanks

AOIIalum 03-23-2004 09:37 AM

I believe ABC sorority could technically come in and do that, but I don't know how often that happens. There still would be some kind of colony member interview process to go through. It's possible that not every woman who interviews would be invited to join the new colony (whether they are members of a local sorority/interest group or not.)

I'm kind of confused about all the talk about the local.

I'm understanding that Gamma Lambda was not really considered when the PH decided to expand. (meaning the new NPC was not going to bring a new NPC group just for them)?

That's correct, the PHC voted on expansion independently. Whatever group comes to campus is under no obligation to work with Gamma Lambda.

question

Does anyone really know why the NPC decided to open expansion to a new sorority but not to allow expansion for Gamma Lambda? Am I understanding this correctly or am I totally wrong? From what I have read it seems like Gamma Lambda is a group of about 50 who wanted to go national and NPC said nope. But then NPC said, well, we'll allow another group to come to campus, but not for your benefit. If I am wrong please let me know, because I really hope that is not the case!

Gamma Lambda had not petitioned for expansion, which is the only case where the PHC would be obligated to expand just for them. The PHC decided it was time to expand, brought it up for vote and the motion passed. It's as simple as that - no malice intended or implied.

The meeting was last night. The following three groups will be doing expansion presentations in April.

Alpha Omicron Pi
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Kappa

I wasn't at the meeting, so I don't know how the voting went or how the other 5 groups in the pool ranked. Even if I did know, it's not worth posting.

Please be supportive of these three organizations as the process moves forward. The hardest work is ahead!
