Oh my turn, my turn.
I absolutely loved the book!!! JKR is great!! I loved the way she writes. I really feel the emotions of the characters. And dang that Proffessor Umbridge. I have a feeling that she will return... The end of the book was amazing. The whole prophecy and that it could have been either Harry or Neville. I like Neville. He's had a string of bad luck, but I see Harry and Him bcoming Good friends, and maybe Ron being a little jealous of their friendship? I can see Ginny and Harry get together. I always thought that from the second book anyway. But only time time will tell right? And I definitly think Ron and Herminone will get together. They're like and Old married couple anyway..(like the reference to Ron and Hermione being like Mr. and Mrs. Weasly) I wonder if Fred and George will be back to help out in the remaining adventures now that they have left Hogwarts? And what about Percy? Will he return to the Weasly clan or turn into a Death Eater?? I have a feeling that Percy will be easily corrupted by Voldermort (or He Who Must Not Be Named). |
This book was pretty awesome! I, too, wanted to know how Harry and the gang did on their O.W.L.S. I guess that's how the sixth book will start off. I was disappointed with Siruis' death "scene." I thought it could have been a little better. But at the same time, I was totally expecting Dumbledore or Hagrid to die, so I wasn't too upset.
I had to put the book down several time because I wanted to jump in and kill Professor Umbridge. What a B*!ch. I hope she's gone from the books. I am starting to like Snape. Now, he's not my favorite character, but I am understanding why he is the way he is. And, I liked how he was "helping" Harry out...even though he didn't appear to want to do so. Harry and Ginny would make a cute couple...and we all know that Ron and Hermoine are going to wind up together :D . The next two books are going to be very interesting! I just hope we don't have to wait as long as we did for this one. I wonder who they will find to play Dumbledore in the remaining movies??? Not any person can play that special role. |
They already hired a new Dumbledore for the films - Irish actor Michael Gambon. He is in the Prisoner of Azkaban movie and if he's in the rest of the movies I wonder if people will remember him more than Richard Harris? credit: www.imdb.com and ew.com.

Does anyone know for sure if the rest of the books will be made into a movie? I'm not aware of any of the actors being locked in past PofA. It'd be stupid to wait until after that one finishes to negotiate the contracts. As it is now the kids fees are probably going to quadruple at least. They all went from nobodies to icons! Quite costley indeed.

From what I have heard, there are some concerns that the kids they have will not be in the remaining series (if they choose to make the rest of the books into movies) because they are maturing too fast. Just one of the concerns...not sure how true it is.

I didn't say kill him because everyone would see a different actor in the movie, that would be a sell-out move. But she could Honor the man she worked with. Note the difference. Also, I think it is quite interesting the way she wrote Sirius' death, because I couldn't believe he was dead. How brilliant is that? Life really is that fragile, death can come that easily, it doesn't have to be some amazing battle of the wits where one of them dies in a huge explosion...I bet each of us felt "Sirius can't be dead" She wrote our emotional reaction into the story! |
I wish that JKR would write "Hogwarts: A History" like she did for Quiditch and Magical Creatures. I think that would be a kick-a$$ book to read...
And now onto waiting for book 6. -Nicole |

I had thought about the difference between murder/kill/manslaughter/etc myself (future lawyer that i'm trying to be). But the prophecy states either must die at the hand of the other, nothing about the semantaics of kill/murder. As a side note, what version of OotP do you have?? My verison has Harry saying "that one of us has got to kill the other one" |
My version says . . kill also . . . Referrring to Dolphin's post above.
Hermione and Ron probably will get together but it would be silly to have them totally together before the end of book 7. As for a Ginny and Harry couple, well it seems that the current flow of the books wouldn't necessarily put them together because the books are written from Harry's perspective. IF they were written from Ginny's perspective I could definitely see the potential for them . . . The only thing that makes me pause is that the author is a woman writing about a man lol . . . so it kind of depends on how she feels about ginny and how much she relates them all to herself lol. |

But do remember that she had the plot of all 7 books sketched out in a fair amount of detail before she wrote Harry 1 (as the publishers call it). I imagine that it would difficult if not impossible, and probably dangerous, to rework the overall plot now, since Harry 1-4 are all predicated on and contain foreshadowing of her original plot. Still, I could make an argument (you'll learn, DolphinChicaDDD, that a good lawyer can argue anything ;) ) that there could be a subtle difference between "and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives" and "does that mean that one of us has got to kill the other one?". Oh well, we'll see one day. |
Oh! Was that a lawyer trait? I thought was simply a woman's trait that lawyers emulated ;) lol

WOW!!!
What a cool freakin book!
I didn't get my hands on a copy of OP until just this Monday and read it almost constantly through yesterday. I figure finishing an 870-page book in 48 hours is not too bad. I had to restrain from reading this thread until just recently. I have to admit that I was suspecting the death to be Hagrid, but am relieved that it wasn't... not that I wanted Sirius to be the one, 'cause that really sucks for Harry to have lost the only closest person he had to real family (apart, of course, from assorted friends and professors at Hogwarts). I think we can all agree that the Dursleys are barely family - it was really cool to read that last chapter and watch the Order members giving Uncle Dursley a bit of a lecture. I was kinda hoping that Harry and Cho would have a more succesful relationship in this book, but perhaps in book 6... she sure does get around though, doesn't she? We'll have to see. I agree with observations already made by others about Neville Longbottom having a more prominent roll in the story, especially with his progress in D.A. meetings. Dumbledore's explanation at the end of the book was not as extensive as I was expecting, given the previews I'd read - a little disappointing, but still pretty cool. It seems Harry's got his work cut out for him though - either kill or be killed by one of the (two?) best wizards alive. ... Hang on though.... did it say that Harry personally had to kill Voldemort, or did Voldemort simply have to be killed? I don't remember. This book definitely set the stage for some exciting stuff in the next two books. I was a bit surprised to see Fred and George Weasley leave school altogether, but the mayhem they left in their wake was hilarious! I was laughing out loud as I read it! It'll probably be a while before the next book is out, but I can't wait! |

I thought the exact same thing last week. I love how Hermione keeps referencing the book and the fact that Ron and Harry have yet to read it! As I was re-reading GOF, and Hermione said, "One day, you guys will read that book.", I wanted to read it. |
