I finally finished a big afghan (it fits a queen-sized bed!) that I've been crocheting for about a year, and it inspired me to look for you guys' crafty stories. :)

I learned to crochet when I was 8, but I have no idea how to do all of the fancy stitches since I've only finished 2 projects, and I found that site to be extremely informative.

I was wondering if anyone has tried embossing as a craft hobby?

I randomly thought of it earlier today since I was thinking of Christmas cards (yes, already!). I thought it would be neat to make my own and have seen some beautiful ones that were made by using 'embossing' methods.

What would be the best way to get started?

But since you bumped the thread, I will mention that I just discovered a yarn store in my hometown! They haven't been open very long. They have every type of yarn imaginable (including some that I have no idea what you'd make with it) and knitting and crochet patterns, also cross stitch and needlepoint patterns and supplies.

I see a maxed-out credit card in my future... :p

I love crafts, but haven't had much time to do them lately.

But I was in my pastor's study, and he had "Amazing Grace" done in counted cross stitch on his wall. It was THE most beautiful piece I've ever seen! Has anyone ever seen a kit for this?

I haven't seen an "Amazing Grace" kit in a while, but you might check around at Hobby Lobby (if you have one), Michael's or JoAnn Fabrics. If they don't have it, you may be able to find one online -- maybe even eBay.

I did a google search, and found one very similar to the one I saw. The only difference was that the one I saw had more blues than burgundies in it. I may take a trip to the local Pat Catan's tomorrow!

HI There,

One of my sisters just started selling Close To My Heart stamps and scrapbooking stuff so I decided to have a party to help her get her business going. We ended up doing Christmas cards with embossing as our project and I absolutely fell in love with it. Once you know the way you want your cards to look it's really easy to do - can't believe I didn't do it earlier but it always looked way to hard. Only warning is that it can get expensive by the time you get the embossing gun/warmer, the ink and the various powders you want. Saying that though, between my mom and myself we bought the stuff to do our own cards and I can't wait until finals are over so I can get working on my cards.

Also, I'm throwing a 50th anniversary celebration for my parents at the end of January. I'm trying to come up with an idea using the embossing stuff for favors for the party. That is if I have time to make it since I'm doing a creative memories scrapbook for them to have on display at the party.

So many projects I want to do and so little time to do them.

Has anyone ever used a computer program to help make their cross stitch designs? I saw quite a few on ebay recently and was wondering if it was worth it.

Yes .. I have a computer program (pattern maker) that I use. It was real easy to make my own set of greek letters. On the other hand, importing pictures has been problemmatic ... to many colors .. bad choice of colors...

Today at Michael's, I discovered an irresistible cross-stitch pattern--a wreath of vegetables. It will take me forEVER but is absolutely perfect for the TV room.:D I wonder if I can cross-stitch and cruise GC all at once?

Women are more predisposed to multitask than men are. I've been known to watch TV, read GC, and cross stitch simultaneously... drives my husband crazy. (He couldn't multitask if his life depended on it.) I sit on the commuter rail and listen to my iPod and cross stitch... other riders are convinced I'm listening to Enya or something, when I'm actually listening to Linkin Park or Evanescence. (I've been asked.) So, "x" away.

Oh, the cross stitch pattern I mentioned when this thread was first started 3 years ago? Still haven't finished the frelling thing... :rolleyes:

my best friend invited me to this scrapbooking party that is held the 2nd weekend of the month. it's from 6pm till midnight. everyone has dinner and then gets scrapping away! I'm really excited... my first one will be in february. this gives me a great opportunity to finish my 1st college book, then maybe another time I can work on my UNT one.. then Violet's puppy book.
