I didn't apply to any of these schools, because I wanted to stay in town and SLU was too expensive.

I went to UCSC. Should have went to UCSB. Was accepted to all the state schools in northern Cali, UCSB, UCSC, and UCR. But I picked stupid UCSC because it was close to home and an ex-bf. grr.

Aww I LOVE UCSC! my best friend and my cousin go there.

I was 100% sure I didn't want to apply to any Maryland schools because I didn't want to be with everyone from my high school.

West Virginia was my first choice, but I also looked at..
-East Carolina (i LOVED it and was torn between that and WVU for awhile)
-Clemson (ended up being too far- 10 hours from my house)
-UNC Charlotte (heard it was a big suitcase school)
-Virginia tech (loved the campus but felt sick on the tour day and that kinda affected my opinion)

Funny thing I remember about Clemson though.. my parents and I were eating lunch in this little cafe waiting for the tour to start and another family was next to us. We started talking and the dad asked where we were from. We told them Maryland and in this great southern accent, his wife was like, "Well welcome to the South!!".. they were from Tennessee.
I thought it was so cute.:)

I applied (and was accepted) to Stanford, Cal, and UCDavis. UCD was my backup, since they'd all but told me I would be accepted before I even applied (apparently they liked me a lot from what they saw in my grades and SAT's?). Truth is, I love Stanford and couldn't really imagine having spent college anywhere else. Having said that, I would have ended up at UCD had I not gotten in because Cal just wasn't for me. I remember visiting and staying over and thinking to myself, why am I here? This place doesn't fit me at ALL.

Had I been more adventurous about the weather and being away from home, I just might have filled out the application MIT sent me or applied to Princeton, Harvard, or Yale (or any number of places where it has freezing cold winters). Truthfully, though, I don't think I would have survived the freezing temperatures...and I knew it way back when I was applying, so I saved my parents the money on applications and ended up spending it on an education at a school 40 minutes from home. I don't regret it one bit.:D

I was set on going to Indiana and told all my friends that I was going there...my dad said, "I'm paying, and you're staying in-state and going to EIU!" My first choice was UIUC because I felt at home the second I walked on campus even though I was originally very reluctant to visit it. Unfortunately, I applied the last day possible to the education school and, needless to say, a month later I got the skinny envelope that says, "we have many fine candidates...we wish you the best....blah, blah, blah." I ended up going to EIU for my first two years, and it ended up being a great transition to UIUC when I was accepted as a transfer student.

I wouldn't have changed my experiences for anything, HOWEVER, I visited UVA when I moved out here, and I fell in love with the campus. If I had visited or lived out here when I was in high school, I very well may have gone there. (Plus, I met the UVA SK's, and they're so fun!)

In high school, I was Ithaca Ithaca Ithace, and I only applied to Denison as a safety school. In all honesty, when I got the acceptance letter, I forgot that I had applied. Well, Denison offered me bukoos of money so I went there. Now, however, I wish I went to a bigger school (not too big) like Miami University or something.

I only aplied to 4 schools, and to be honest, 2 of those were just for fun because I could never have afforded them. I pretty much knew I was going to Illinois (UIUC) but Illinois State was my emergency fall back. I applied to Northwestern and Notre Dame just because I went to a very snobby high school, and everyone applied to those schools to brag about whether or not they got in. (Of course most of the ones that got in actually went there, because they could afford it!) I think about 50% of my high school class went on to Marquette, which we affectionately called "Carmel High School North" because it was just a continuation of our Catholic High School for most.

Irish - what year did you graduate?? My best friend from college went to Carmel!

I applied to the "standard 3" Ontario schools that most of the people in my class applied to, which were:

Queen's
Western
U of T

in addition, I also applied to Dalhousie (and King's a smaller school affiliated Dal) and Concordia. Ontario schools didn't send out their "regular" offers until June back then, while other schools sent them out in March or April. I was actually in the Dominican Republic with 19 other girls from school when I got my Dalhousie and King's offers. My mom called hotel to tell me (I had asked her to open any letters from universities). Because I hadn't heard from the Ontario schools yet, I decided to accept my Dal offer.

If I hadn't gone to Queen's, I would have probably gone to Dal or Western (maybe even to their Catholic women's affiliate, Brescia College to take a degree in nutrition or family studies/household management). Since these schools have Greek Life, I wouldn't have AI'd. At the same time, I might not have ended up an AGD! At Dalhousie, there are three sororities, AGD, a two chapter regional called Iota Beta Chi and a local called Omega Pi. At Western, there were six sororities (AGD, Alpha Phi, Theta, AOII, Gamma Phi, Pi Phi) at that time (Gamma Phi has since closed).

As for graduate school, I wouldn't have gone anywhere other than U of T.

I wish that I had applied to more schools.....I applied to one and went to one---the University of North Alabama. I filled out the application for Lee University, but then decided private school was way too expensive!! Now I'm looking at grad school's and thinking----I'm applying several places, but I know which one I want to go to....and let's hope I get in.

I'm looking at: University of South Carolina, Alabama, FSU, UGA....

If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't have spent my junior and senior year of high school in a stupor. ;) I would've had better grades and would have been able to go anywhere I wanted. My dream schools were:

Berkeley
Brown
Smith

Instead, I applied to three local schools (Ga. State, West Georgia, Clark Atlanta) and chose GSU.

Berkeley is still a dream school for me, and when the time comes to apply for doctoral programs, I'm definitely applying there. I'm also applying to:

U of Toronto
U of Washington
Michigan
UBC

UBC is a fallback school because I did my master's degree there, and I know I'll get in -- plus, I'll get a free ride.

All these schools have Alpha Phi chapters! :) Is that another reason?
