OMG, I just went to the store and found seeds for RED bluebonnets! Not Indian paintbrush, but bluebonnets--Alamo something or other!
We bought a packet and will try our horticultural best to get them to grow, although all we've been able to produce here was one scrawny little plant with a 3" flower head. Arghhh--and me with that doctorate in horticulture....it's got to be the bacteria in the Hill Country soil that makes 'em grow. |
Hey y'all... I was walking through Foley's at the Mall of Louisiana (Baton Rouge) and well...out of the corner of my eye I saw these Texas flags... I was like what the hey?! They had a bunch of purses with Texas flags, It was definetly a big hit back at the dorm. My friends were like you would have that purse... It's pretty cool though. That's why I love selling back books, i get to buy things I really don't need : )
Best place in Houston to get a burger: Good Company Mexican Resturant.. (yeah, sounds weird but it's sooooooooooooooooo gooooooooooood...) First place I went when I got back... |
TEXAS: We're bigger than France.
Texas Bound Train by Cory Morrow Well I waited all night by the railroad tracks Hoping that train would come soon I got two more smokes half a bottle of scotch Lord I ain’t got too much to lose I toss slop at a local truck stop In a town just out of Pittsburgh, PA I make two twenty five but I still ain’t alive Lord I need a Texas bound train Take me I want to go I want to see where that red river flows Steel wheels burnin’ into the night Take this cowboy home on a midnight ride It’s a long trip down them railroad tracks To Texas I’ve never seen I’ve heard stories of toil about old men and their oil And how they lost their riches and dreams The angels came down in my dreams last night While outside it was stormin’ rain There was a rhythm of drops beatin’ on the rooftops And the angels sang of a train They sang you gotta find a Texas bound train Take me I want to go I want to see where that red river flows Steel wheels burnin’ into the night Take this cowboy home on a midnight ride |
Y'all can go to hell; I'm a goin' to Texas. --Davy Crockett
(who is my great-great-great-granduncle, by the way!) Red and Rio Grande by Doug Supernaw One lone star waving in the wind A longhorn standing proud behind a rusty barbed wire fence Cowboy hats and hearts that never bend I was born and raised a Texan and will be 'til the end As I travel down that blue bonnet highway I'm thankful I was born a lucky man And I know that I will live and die my own way Somewhere between the Red and Rio Grande Two old boots, dusty, worn, and stained By the oilfields and the ranches and the blood that fell like rain Heroes hearts that fought to change our name From Tejas to Texas where the Lone Star proudly waves As I travel down that blue bonnet highway I'm thankful I was born a lucky man And I know that I will live and die my own way Somewhere between the Red and Rio Grande That song literally makes me cry every time I hear it... |
If you've ever driven across Texas, you know how different one area of the state can be from another. Take El Paso. It looks as much like Dallas as I look like Jack Nicklaus. --Lee Trevino
Texas Women by Hank Williams Jr. I’ve got some fond memories of San Angelo And I’ve seen some beauty queens in El Paso But the best lookin’ women that I’ve ever seen Have all been in Texas, and all wearin’ jeans I’m a country plowboy, not a urban cowboy And I don’t ride bulls- but I have fought some men Drive a pickup truck, trust in God and luck And I live to love Texas women I thought I’d seen beauty in far away places 'Til I looked upon those Houston faces Spent Hollywood nights up in Beverly Hills But they weren’t nothin’ like one night down in Brownsville I’m a country plowboy, not a urban cowboy And I don’t ride bulls- but I have fought some men Drive a pickup truck, trust in God and luck And I live to love Texas women I’m a pretty fair judge of the opposite sex And I ain’t seen nothin’ that will touch 'em yet They may be from Waco or out in Lampasas But one thing about it they all come from Texas I’m a country plowboy, not a urban cowboy And I don’t ride bulls- but I have fought some men Drive a pickup truck, trust in God and luck And I live to love Texas women I’m an Oiler fan not a soccer man And my arms are red and so is my blood And they make it boil with that soft Texas drawl And I love 'em all Texas women |
I converted many Yankees to the ways of Texas while attending law school at Notre Dame. After they came and visited me here in Austin, they all want to live here.
And when I lived in London for a year, I was delighted to find there was a Texas Embassy restaurant directly across from school building in Trafalgar Square - and the original Texas embassy itself is still there, too! |

i will say one thing about it, though.....you don't see too many ppl from too many other states with this much pride. i love AL and i love KY (to a point....;) ), but it ain't as deep for me as it is with y'all! |

|
zntke,
While Georgia is a fellow southern state...this is the, "I like TEXAS" thread. Take your shameless self-promotions elsewhere ;) Kitso KS 361 times i sang at chilifest that "the boys from Oklahoma roll their joints all wrong" |
C'mon now! This is the "I love TEXAS thread." It has nothing to do with Georgia, so be gone with your nonsense. :p
|
is there any way to delete the obselete thread?
because i lived in Georgia for 6 miserable(well, the 2 that I was in college were okay) years. . .and nothing. . .compares to the GREAT STATE OF TEXAS!! |
