I've been lurking. I was in a sorority at IU in the 1980s and my daughter is going through recruitment. She has seven sororities left and they may not be "top" in the popularity rankings but have plenty of strong qualities. As for the big cuts, it seems like that aspect has not changed much at IU. When I went through the parties were 18-12-8-4-2. I had nearly all the sororities I wanted for 12 party but took big cuts after that and attended one party at preference. But it worked out! I fear some girls had their pick going from 22 to 16 and then took big cuts going to 9 and so they are now discouraged and dropping out. That is really a shame because the sororities they have left are most likely very strong. And I do realize that some girls have been invited back to just a few sororities, which are considered less selective. The reality is at least a third of the PNMs at IU end up in one of these sororities, drop recruitment because they get to these choices they "don't like," or just don't get invited back to any.

So this is probably a stupid question, but since they can only Pref 2 houses, does that mean the chapters are inviting back 1/3 fewer PNMs? Or do the PNM numbers stay the same, but split into 2 parties?
|
Chapters will still invite a similar number back based on their return rates and will have at least two parties. A chapter could have three preference parties if they invite a large number of PNMs back. The PNMs will only have two parties.

Sending positive vibes to everyone today. Waiting on todays list is so hard. This has been quite a roller coaster ride. Where is everyone from? We are in Indiana, 3rd child as an IU Hoosier and a 14 yr old boy.

Thanks! Best wishes to these awesome girls and their families! There is a lot of nail biting happening right now. We are from the West suburbs of Chicago. This is our oldest, so my first experience as a parent. It definitely was easier to be the Rushee, as we were called in the 80s.

I wasn't Greek so I have no experience to give her, my oldest daughter has been a huge help especially after her first cut which was her biggest. She went from 22 to 8. She always had a great way to pep talk her. It's been a positive experience for my daughter in regards to the amount of people she has met. She's in a single on the quiet side of campus (not by choice) so she has met more girls in her neighborhood which is great.

We are also in the west suburbs of Chicago and I have my second Hoosier daughter. Sending happy thoughts and good vibes to you all! I'm expecting the worst but hoping for the best!

Thinking of all of you parents and your daughters this morning! A year ago (when the pref lists came out), I was a nervous wreck! Hoping for great results for your PNMs!

Daughter just texted, got back her two favorite houses. Including her number 1 from the very start.
|
That's awesome BBH!!! So exciting for her! Still waiting for mine.
|
Just heard from my daughter, she got back 2 of her top 4 and is very excited!
|
Congratulations to all! Still waiting here too....

Thanks, didn't realize I'd be nervous not only for my daughter but now all of yours. Sending good thoughts to everyone.

Just heard from my daughter. She got invited back to two chapters that she really loves. One of those has been in her top 4 from the very start. She would be excited for a bid from either of these groups.
We are from PA. This is my second time going through recruitment as a parent. My older daughter pledged my legacy chapter and I was hopeful that it might be the same for this one at IU. That did not work out. But, I am happy that she is very happy. My third daughter just started into the process at Penn State (twins). So, as this process is wrapping up, I am just getting started with another one that won't culminate until Jan 22nd! |
