I heard they would hear about 5pm, sooner if they didn't receive a bid.

nervousiumom 01-17-2017 03:10 PM

this is killing me

so if someone puts down 2 houses for final ranking and they dont get a bid from house A does the computer go to their house b and if they ranked between 1-55 on house B's list then they get a bid from house B ?

I cant wait another few hours I dont know how my DD is doing if Im so nervous !!!!

IUpnmmom 01-17-2017 04:05 PM

Right there with ALL the other IU Mom's!

IUgreekmom 01-17-2017 04:14 PM

I so remember this day a few years ago when my daughter was going through recruitment. It is nerve racking and then exciting!

Yes, I believe this is how it works. The computer tries to match you with your first house. If that doesn't work, it moves on to the next house.

Ugh. I feel sick waiting.

DD said her rho gam is coming at 5:30 to tell them if they get a bid or not. That she "has" to tell them yes or no in person.

Ugh.

Longtime lurker and mom of a DD who survived the awful snowy IU recruitment of 2014. Reading all of these posts has brought back a lot of memories...I just want to share my daughter's story in the hopes that it might help you to have the right words for your girl tonight. I was able to have them 3 years ago thanks to the wisdom of the women on this site so I'm passing it on.

My DD got a bid from her third choice in a perceived "lower" tier house - yes, she had three to pref and I know it's lucky but to her at that moment it was the end of the world. Thanks to all of you, I had the words to tell her. That this house saw in her something the others didn't - they saw her as a sister. That it was a good thing her house took so many new PNM's- they were giving more girls a chance to be Greek. Like it or not, tiers play a huge part in IU recruitment and to me, that's as big of a problem as bed rush. The tiers determine pairs for parties, HC, Little 5 and more and they determine the reputation of a house on campus. And to young impressionable 18-year-olds wanting to belong, tiers become over-inflated.

Fast forward to today...my daughter is a senior in her house and lives with 10 of her sisters. She couldn't imagine having been anywhere else and has made lifelong friends. She was so worked up over her lower tier bid that she almost didn't accept it...that would have changed her entire experience at IU. I encouraged her to give it a shot...that it was her chance to be Greek and she went the first night. She wasn't sure, but she went back and back again and again and here we are today. Over the moon with her house, sisters and so sad that it's coming to and end.

I wish you all the best news tonight - hang in there, moms!

Awe, this is such a wonderful story and I echo this 100%. My girl also accepted a bid to a so called "lower tier" sorority and it has never once bothered her. She found her home and has been a very active participant and works very hard. She has made friends with many girls and several whom she now lives with. She will be a bridesmaid in one of their weddings in June. She can't imagine herself in any other house. They have to sometimes learn things aren't always what they seem or how they are perceived. I hope there are many happy young ladies celebrating tonight!! ;)

Hang in there IU Moms! It's almost over!! Sending you all virtual glasses of wine!!

IUMomma 01-17-2017 07:06 PM

Thanks!

Got confirmation at 5:30 from her rho gam that she will, indeed, receive a bid tonight! Fingers crossed that it's from one of her two favorites!

PGD-GRAD 01-17-2017 07:18 PM

Happy for you IUMomma and for your daughter as well--now you'll sleep better and be able to relax! Maybe you can find a source to send her a t-shirt or jersey with her new letters or maybe a bouquet of her sorority flowers.

Sciencewoman 01-17-2017 07:26 PM

Hoping everyone gets a bid! Hang in there, moms!

Quick question...assuming this is the new order of things that the RhoGams tell the girls if they received a bid or not so that they know to go to the tennis center? just trying to see how it works as I have another daughter possibly going to IU next year.

HC/IUMAMA 01-17-2017 07:49 PM

My daughter heard from her Rho Gamma that she has a bid! Just waiting for it to be official in her hand! Not sure why they are doing it that way but ... relief!
