The size of the system and the size of quota reminds me of University of Illinois. Illinois has 19 sororities and, IIRC, quota roughly aroudn 50-60.

Wow. That is 61 and if all 14 groups bid quota that would be 854 girls and 300 girls cut or dropped completely out. 74% placement rate. Not a positive trend.

KD. 66. We are thrilled with our girls.

Alpha Xi Delta has 71 (10 quota additions). Everyone is so excited!

Great job Alpha Xi Delta.

I guess I disagree completely with this. Illinois has 19 NPCs, Texas has only 14, which is small for the size school. Texas needs more sororities, but the system is elitist and unfriendly to change. The system at Illinois is the total opposite - very Midwestern in feel and not terribly competitive.

My rec gal went DG. Sniff sniff, but great for DG. ;)

Have you seen a photo of the new pledge class yet? I'm dying to find out if either of my rec girls went ADPi but I haven't seen one yet!

No, looks like their last photo post was pref. I'm in the Austin area, so I got the numbers info from the local alum association.

I thought they had 18?

If it's only 14, then you are right. Those are terrible numbers for a school that size.

Isn't this somewhat similar to Ole Miss and Arkansas where it is VERY difficult for a new chapter to colonize? While I don't think these schools are necessarily unfriendly to change, some families would never hear of their DD pledging a new sorority at their alma mater.

I think a lot of it has to do with Austin being a cool city in its own right. I don't think NPC groups, on the whole, do a good job of marketing ourselves beyond something fun to do in college. If you can have fun without joining, why join?
