Not to mention back in my day you got a favor at pref. I still have my gold anchor (on my Convention charm bracelet) and silver lyre (on my silver charm bracelet).

I don't know how rare it is, but things have gone very well for my daughter SO FAR. For the first round, she was invited back to her top 13 choices. Yesterday, she was invited to 7 houses, and 6 were from her top 7 choices. The one that did not invite her back is supposedly one of the top tier sororities...whatever that means...but it really did not click with her and the lack of an invite was no real surprise, nor was it disappointing.

She is very nervous for today when they go down to 3. I think what has worked so far is that she did not have her mind set on a particular sorority. My guess would be that if a girl is obsessed with a certain sorority, the other houses may sense this. Obviously there are many factors, but she was been excited to visit each house, and her enthusiasm probably helps.

At this point she has a definite favorite, but she seems to really like most of the 7. She is worried about going from 7 invites to zero. I guess the pressure is different for everybody. As it has gone pretty smooth so far, her top 7 are pretty popular ones, and she feels this makes it more likely that she will not get invites. But I have a feeling it will work out. I think she loves the one because she really clicked with them, and I would guess that they can see her enthusiasm and clicked with her as well. We shall see. As somebody else wrote, the road to get there doesn't matter so long as she gets there.

Unless there is a sorority named Runtime, this username is not likely to offend. Anyway, the update is my daughter received 3 invites for today, and they were for her top 3 choices. So far, so good. Have not heard yet how the meetings went. My understanding is that she will rank the three, and then she will either receive a bid to her first choice if they want her, then down the list, with a possibility that after all of this she may get no bids. Is this how it works? If so, are the odds she will receive no bids at this point pretty remote?

If she lists all three, the chances of not getting a bid are so small as to be negligible.

Great...thanks for the info. I just received a text and she is so excited...she is pretty sure that her #1 choice wants her. I am sure she will list all 3, and would be happy with the other 2, but her #1 seems like she really wants it.

Welcome back, Runtime. Very few women are released if they maximize their options and list all three groups on their bid card. Hopefully she'll end up in the chapter she likes best.

She is definitely fortunate to like all three of her choices. Best wishes to her!

Yes, she is fortunate, and she is grateful things worked out like that. If it is any encouragement to future rushers, she was not prom queen, or a cheer leader, or anything like that. She is a happy, peppy girl, and pretty intelligent girl, however, and I think her good attitude got her this far.

Congratulations to your daughter! That's awesome!

Good luck to her! Let us know how it comes out.

Wonderful news!

So are all the IL PNMs here now accounted for as having attended pref parties?

Moms, time for wine. :) And maybe Mimosas in the morning. ;)

I know of so few PNM's who get dropped from every chapter (and the statistics bear it out) at Illinois. My first thought was that this was an effect of having so many chapters, i.e. it's unlikely for a PNM to click with NOONE, but then other schools with a lot of chapters (Auburn, for example) seem to have a much larger number of women who are not invited to prefs.

Any thoughts on why this is? If I had to wager a guess, a lot of women at Illinois know nothing about the chapters when they get there (though maybe this has changed due to the internet?), and I bet there are very few who fall into the trap of going back to the SRCs for first invitational and having nothing later on, when they would have had a bid if they had considered other chapters.
