I've been reading this thread for a couple of days and decided to post! My dau is going through right now also. She is an AU legacy to a chapter there, and has been attending the max amount of parties, but the cuts have been harsh with all the girls. 3 girls in her Pi Chi group were completely cut out today, and several had less than 5 parties when the total was 7. Seems like everyone is cutting pretty hard early in the week, and my fear is that a lot of girls will be going to 1 party or none tomorrow, and I hate that. The stress is definitely wearing on my daughter, and Monday can not get here sooner!

And to the point......does anyone know what quota will be? I heard 63 or 65?

Titchou 08-11-2012 10:09 PM

Quota is not set until after pref when all PNMs have turned in their signed bid cards. NPC has gone to a method (RFM - Release Figures Methodology) that will place the most women. As a result, the computer will take the women's choices and the chapter bid lists and compute what quota will place the most women in the preferred choices. With this method, as long as you have "maximized your options" (attended every party for which you had an invitation and open slot in your schedule, you will get a bid to one of the groups you have listed.

All this is to say, we have no way of knowing until all women are matched and the lists released to the public.

Thanks so much for that answer, it almot sounds like rocket science to me!

If they are maximizing the number so more girls will receive bids, thats awesome! I'm thinking from 7 parties today, my dau will have 3 tomorrow, hopefully. That will give her plenty of options for her to make her decision. Its been hard to keep my mouth shut through all this, but one more day, and then it'll be over. YAYY!

It sort of is! Quota can move up or down depending on what number places the most women. So while quota may sometimes sound low, if there are a good number of quota additions and more women get placed, then it's a good thing.

So, if I am understanding this right, if my d gets even one call back tomorrow she should get in?

Titchou 08-11-2012 11:25 PM

She should - but that's a toughie if it's only 1 invite. But if she had a full schedule today, it's likely she will also tomorrow.

AUmom2012 08-11-2012 11:31 PM

The cuts on Pref night are tough.....I am hoping that at least one my dau's top 3 will carry her through. 2 of her top 3 would be even better of course. Of course she wasn't thrilled with her 'legacy' chapter and ranked them at #5, which she could very well be going to as well. They only ranked their bottom 4 today.

Does Auburn have guaranteed placement? I was under the impression that they do not and PNMs can go bidless even with full pref schedules.

Titchou 08-12-2012 12:00 AM

With RFM, if you have a full schedule at pref you cannot go bidless UNLESS you SIP. If you go to all 3 and put all 3 on your card, you will get a bid at Auburn. Guaranteed placement means that no matter what you do, if you sign up for recruitment, they'll put you somewhere. I think there are only 1 or 2 places that do that. Everywhere else that uses RFM - and that's most campuses - as long as you "maximize your options" - you will get a bid.

AUmom2012 08-12-2012 12:44 AM

Hoping and praying for 3 parties tomorrow then, and 3 parties that dau will like! I would hate to see her only put 1 or 2 on bid sheet tomorrow, lessens the chances considerably I'm sure. So we shall see.........

No, I'm not talking about guaranteed bidding that's offered at Tufts. There are still schools that use RFM where a PNM can attend all her pref parties and still not receive a bid. Not every school that uses RFM guarantees a bid. I'm under the impression that this can happen at Auburn. Any people who advise at Auburn here who can offer any insight?

Titchou 08-12-2012 07:56 AM

There is no way that can happen under RFM because there are no limitations on quota additions. So, if she has maximized her options - and mind you, PNMs may not admit that they didn't - she will get a bid. The unfortunate thing is that many women don't like that they got their 3rd choice and don't show up or leave the next day. If they were all happy to get the 3rd choice, a certain chapter at Alabama would no longer be getting 25-30 QAs as they would be the largest group on campus. Same at Auburn...

AUAZD2001 08-12-2012 08:14 AM

Not an advisor, but FWIW Auburn Panhellenic's website has the slides from Camp War Eagle and on slide 26 it states "There are 105 women who comprise that 2.20% [of PNMs released on Bid Day from 2008-2011]. All of them neglected maximizing their preference options."

So they don't come out and say "you will get a bid if you maximixe your options" they do say the only ones to not receive a bid didn't.

Titchou 08-12-2012 12:43 PM

They are placed - they just don't like their placement. Sorry, that doesn't equate to "I didn't get a bid but went to all 3 prefs" And I would like to qualify all this by saying that a chapter may find out information about a PNM which may render her not a "good fit" for them at the last minute and can talk with the Greek adviser about said information and not be required to have her on their lists...if you get my drift....

AXOrushadvisor 08-12-2012 01:12 PM

^^Really? I've been doing this recruitment thing a long time and I thought once they were on your list they were on your list. Is this a green book rule or at the discretion of the GL Advisor?
