The drinking age in the UK is 18, unless it's changed since the last time I was on the other side of the pond.
AEPhi's policy (I believe most NPC sororities have similar policies) is that new members and sisters are expected to abide by federal, state, and local laws, including those related to alcohol consumption. We have no chapters/colonies outside the US, but if we were to charter a chapter in, say, Canada, it would be ok if NMs of legal age drank (drinking ages are 18 or 19 depending on the province). (It would be ok if a NM of legal age in a US chapter drank, but how often do you see a 21-year-old new member?) We also have a policy that no alcohol is to be served at chapter events unless it's through a third-party vendor. So I was surprised to see booze at pref and at presents. But then again, this TV sorority is wildly diverging from what normally goes on in an NPC chapter. Ahhh... I love a good trainwreck. Who wants popcorn? |
Thanks for filling me in. I was not aware of the NPC policy, all I know is that most groups at my university and from word of mouth of other universities do dry pledging. Not just because they are underage (or might not be, which does end up happening for fraternities), but mostly risk management wise as well as helping keep pledges' minds focused.
Thanks for the explanation, now I wonder how long this show will last. The sorority already openly blindfolded 14 girls and drove them to an undisclosed location. They already revealed chapter related events. I hope the sorority lasts, but those rituals they hold so dear that they aired will not last. I did like the melting ice idea though, at least it had a meaning behind it. |

I watched part of episode 2, and the American women should be ashamed of themselves. |

I was just wondering if someone could post the rest of the episodes? I know, I'm pretty pathetic when it comes to trashy reality television. Once I start it--it's hard for me to not watch the rest of the trainwreck. Would someone care to post?

Just Google "Watch Sorority Girls online"
Found episode 3 here: http://www.novamov.com/video/onvt3uyg3wnou |

PS, I'm looking for an online version of "The Virgin Diaries" episode that aired on TLC last night. I've search high and low. It doesn't re-air until Dec 14, but I'm under the weather and looking for a distraction. I don't know why it didn't record, but I think it had to do with hubby's too-many Sunday night picks. |
