Aarrgh....I have posted my story...aka novel..of an ending twice today!! I'm going to go type it in Word then copy it over. Reveal is coming, I promise!

I think the last I posted I was thinking about heading to Auburn. I did, and it was the right decision for sure. A was a scared, tired, hoarse little girl who was pretty glad to see her Mama. I'm glad I had the luxury of being a drivable distance.

A made the decision to suicide bid for Diamond. I almost begged her not to do it, knowing she was greatly diminishing her chances of receiving a bid. She said the the pref parties totally made her mind up. There was no comparison to the emotion she felt for Diamond, a group she has loved from the start, and actually before recruitment
ever even started. A has friends in Diamond and always felt this would be a great fit for her.

So....I took her out to eat supper and then dropped her off to meet with her Pi Chi group for the big reveal of which sorority her leader was a member. (she was Kappa
Kappa Gamma, btw). A has made some great friends in her Pi Chi group, and they
were all so supportive and concerned with her. She knew she had a very real
possibility of being released completely. Her Pi Chi would call her in the morning if
that was the case.

I really was worried. But, after talking at length with A, I think she made the right
decision. For any future PNM that might be reading this, I still strongly encourage you
to maximize your options at pref. A took a big chance. She decided that she could
not just take a bid from anyone...and be unhappy about it...knowing there might be a
girl she had cut out that truly wanted that bid.

A decided to spend the night with me in case she got that dreaded phone call. Our
plan was to get hell out of dodge....maybe go do a little retail therapy...if that call came.

We slept fitfully, and awoke about 5:30 am. We lay in bed talking, and A did a lot of staring at her phone. At about 6:30 am, the phone vibrated with a text from her Pi
Chi. The message, to the entire group, said "NO ONE IN OUR GROUP WAS
RELEASED!"

Oh, happy tears!! We knew this meant A had received her bid! She swung for the
fence - and knocked it out of the park! We gleefully got dressed and were ready to
head over to the rugby field for Bid Day. We both wanted to see that name on the
sheet of paper, though!

What a production! So many beautiful young girls, walking to meet their fate and
future homes...young fraternity pledges dressed in their Sunday finest (aka game day
attire at Auburn)...and quite a few Mama's who I think thought THEY were back in
college and relieving some glory days. :). Electric atmosphere and so exciting!

The girls lined up with their Pi Chi groups and waited to receive their bids. Aubie,
Auburn's wonderful mascot, was driven down the street in a Jeep, much to the celebration of the crowd. He handed out bid letter to each group leader.

The squeals (this used to be called Squeal Day at Auburn) went up! Girls ran to their groups and then on to the chapter room. I can't tell you how proud and excited I was for A!

This has been probably the most fun A has ever had...that she wouldn't want to have again. Recruitment is brutal. My heart still hurts for C, but I know she will be fine. She is the type of girl that will find her niche and be involved.

A and B have been best friends for about 6 years...and are now BOTH pledges to...

Congratulations, AuburnMom85! You deserve a lot of credit for being there for your daughter when she made a dangerous decision, and I'm thrilled for her & her friend, too!

AGD is a fantastic group! The fact that they extended a bid to your daughter speaks volumes about her character (both in the classroom and in the community). From where I was, I actually had a really good view of a few groups-AGD was one of them. For what it's worth, in my apartment complex, there are two VERY sweet girls, that are rooming together, and are set to become Sophomores in AGD. Very smart, pretty and well-spoken ladies. I ran into one of them after the day was over, and she seemed as if she could not be more thrilled about the new baby squirrels!

The fortitude that you both have shown has been remarkable, and your posts have always been very insightful-making for a great read. Good luck to the both of you. Your daughter is a very lucky girl.

Yay! Our Auburn chapter wins our top awards at Convention every time and our International President is not only an Auburn Alpha Gam but all three of her daughters have been also :) Congrats to your daughter and "B"! I truly hope they enjoy their Alpha Gamma Delta Experience!
