As I said in my earlier post, it's nasty. And the one I went to was fairly new! It was greasy and flavorless, and just un-special. In general, I don't eat at chain restaurants very often. In case you're wondering, I also hate Applebee's.

I guess I'm spoiled living in a city with a lot of great restaurants. My bf and I love to go out for brunch on the weekends. There are hardly any IHOPs left in the Seattle area, and I'm not talking about Denny's either. I'm talking about REAL, independently operated restaurants...French restaurants are some of our favorites, but for traditional American brunch, this is my fav: http://www.brownbagcafes.com/menu/breakfast.jpg. And local restaurant Salty's is legendary for brunch: http://www.saltys.com/food_wine/best_brunch.asp. I swear my bf's parents come all the way from Chicago to visit us just for brunch at Salty's.

Wow. The Waffle house I go to isn't greasy at all. I don't like the environment, because the people there are kind of gross looking (I always get my food to go) but the food is good. I agree with you about Applebees and Denny's. I don't like Applebees' food and Denny's just has a really gross atmosphere.

Do you guys like buffet foods? I only eat the salads from those kinds of places.

Fawn Liebowitz 11-04-2008 11:15 AM

For the most part, I steer clear of any buffets unless it is a holiday or brunch at an upscale establishment. I can't stand going to buffets where people let their young children loiter around the buffet and help themselves or even "graze", sometimes with their bare hands. Sometimes the children are accompanied by nasty looking adults I don't want around my food either. I also have issues with buffets keeping their food within safe temps.

No way. I used to like shoney's as a kid. Then it became gross. Not a specific incident, just the quality of the food slipped way down. That was the only buffet style place i ever even remotely liked.

The only good cafeteria style places are actual cafeterias, and they are only so good to begin with. That is why it's called "cafeteria food."

Buffet restaurant food is just knock-off cafeteria food. It's even lower.

I don't go to buffet restaurants, unless it's in a special case (such as the Moonlite BBQ in Kentucky). The brunch buffet I linked to above is at an upscale seafood restaurant and their brunch is seriously gourmet.

Buffets should be banned!

and

"All you can EAT!" A regional/state thing?

As I said there, some buffets are good, others are not.

Sigh. I wish I lived in a city with a lot of great, independently-owned restaurants. Indianapolis's unofficial motto is, "Restaurant Chain Capital of the United States". Everyone here gets so excited when a new restaurant opens, but 99 percent of the time it's a part of a stinkin' chain. It really sucks that no one has the cojones to open up an original restaurant.

Anyways, it never ceases to amaze me the trouble Mcdonalds has making a plain cheeseburger. PLAIN. NOTHING ON IT BUT CHEESE. Come on people, that requires even LESS effort to make.

And KFC....ewww....walking into our KFC is NASTY. I feel like I need a facial when I leave. The food is ALWAYS cold and mushy.

I miss Bojangles. And Sonic.

YOU DONT HAVE A SONIC??? i am soo sorry. i must have emailed half a dozen people to get them in richmond and now we have 3 within half an hour of me!! we dont have bojangles anymore though :(, i looooove their food! i always get it when i see them out of town now.

jessica.lanelle 11-04-2008 08:19 PM

...I went to Sonic today for lunch.
Sonic G
irl: "Welcome to Sonic, can I help you?
Me: "Hi, I would like a chicken toaster club with tater tots and no lettuce, please."
Sonic Girl: A long, long pause.
And then she says,
"Tater tots don't come with lettuce."

Omfg. Rofl x 10.
Me: "You know what, just f-ing forget about it."
And then I drove off.

UofISigKap 11-04-2008 09:35 PM

My Sonic story isn't as good as the tater tot one, but they have messed up orders three times. It's not like it was a big order either. How hard is it to get a hotdog with mustard and no ketchup? Sheesh.

I felt the same way living in Boston - no matter the price range, no matter the type of food, I was guaranteed the opportunity to eat at a top-rate restaurant.

That's one thing I really miss living here in CT. There are some excellent restaurants in the area (the Max's family of restaurants, the Vito's restaurants, Roscoe's Big Dog, etc.), but there's not nearly the selection that there was in Boston.

(On a slightly unrelated note, I consider myself an expert on the Boston restaurant scene, so if anyone on the board has any questions about visiting Boston, I'm always willing to give suggestions)

As soon as I saw Ponderosa I was immediately grossed out. Yeah, there are some good ones and some bad ones. As long as the lettuce and other veggies look/are fresh, I'll just eat the salads.
