Here's an email forward some of you Big XII folks might enjoy:

The Big 12 teams as the Middle East:

TEXAS: Iran. Somewhat of a controlling power in the region but it will all come crashing down because they have a highly functioning retard as a leader.

KANSAS: Kuwait. Tons of riches and unrealized potential, but still vulnerable to Iran.

NEBRASKA: Iraq. A wealth of history but the country as a whole is going in the tank and they will kill themselves off before it's all over.

OKLAHOMA: Saudi Arabia. A proud kingdom, once torn up by fighting but known for historic past and prosperous future, surrounded by Iran and Iraq, with fanatics in Al-Qaeda (see below) who'll stop at nothing to bring them down.

MISSOURI: Syria. Evil schemers who will stoop to whatever level they need to win. No real history to speak of but thinks they are the cradle of civilization.

OKLAHOMA STATE: Al Qaeda. No real country, just a movement of disgruntled fanatics who live to destroy the hope of those more fortunate. No other goal in life than to bring down the House of Saudi Arabia. Terrorizing that country in the late 90's and early 2000 years is the crowning achievement in their history. Signing day was a major setback to the movement. They are fanatically loyal to their new leader.

KANSAS STATE: Palestinian territories. No one really cares or worries about them unless they can be of some use (i.e. winning a battle once in a while against Iran that causes a bit of shake up in rankings)

IOWA STATE: Qatar. Where is Qatar? Is it in our area?

Texas A&M: Afghanistan. Not much going for it other than the crazy commoners.

BAYLOR: Israel. None of the others understand why they're in the area. Just leave them alone. What did they ever do to you?

COLORADO: Morocco. Not really part of the Middle East. Has other things to do than fight (or play football). Rumor is you can always go there for a good time.

TEXAS TECH: Libya. Has a charismatic leader in a land of nothingness who will rattle his sword but knows he doesn't have a whole heck of a lot to back it up. Pulls the occasional sneak-attack and cries "Victory!"

srmom 11-05-2008 12:28 PM

LOL! That's good.

OHNOITSJESS 11-05-2008 12:59 PM

I meant beating OSU and losing to OU, i had them switched up in my post.
As for rushing the field, it was a MAJOR game, our 500th win, and we beat Texas. It wasa big enough game to where i think rushing the field was appropriate, but i don't think we should rush this week [actually anyone that does is a moron]. I do think people sould have waited until the END of the quarter to rush but, i didn't sit in that section [thats were all the rude students notoriously sit], and i hate them.

You've led the series for a while, but that hasn't stopped them from beating you in the past 2 years. Don't get me wrong the only time i root UT is A&M and this year against OSU, but last two years have been dissapointing. But the fact is true that A&M is doing horribly this year.

well, i have to go to my engineering advising session so i don't know if i missed anything...

breathesgelatin 11-06-2008 01:42 AM

Kevin, that's pretty funny, although clearly biased towards OU. :)

Iowa State as Qatar though? Isn't Qatar one of the richest countries in the middle east?

Clearly, this wasn't written by a geography major.

Or even by someone who has had a geography class.

ETA: But you deny that allegation about Mack Brown? There goes your objectivity :)

Why do I think this is so funny? I have a very racist aunt whose three children all went to UT. She hate arabs, particularly Iranians. I'm half tempted to send this to her, but am afraid she will not take it as a joke.

Good luck to Iowa and OSU tomorrow. Clear the way for a Texas/SEC Champ BCS title game. That will be the best game.

I heart the Bears but I'm afraid a win wasn't meant to be. :(

Glad to see another MSU win. Next week against PSU will be interesting!!

AGDee 11-08-2008 06:53 PM

Thanks Michigan. At least you got the Little Brown Jug this year again. I'm so glad they won since my brother traveled from Alabama to Minnesota for the game!

Benzgirl 11-08-2008 07:42 PM

I was caught up with the LSU/Bama game and I missed the Big 10 upset. Sorry, NittanyAlum. Iowa beats #2 Penn State.

kddani 11-08-2008 07:47 PM

Haha! JokePa's not going to get that national championship this year.

He probably soiled himself after that kick.

ISUKappa 11-08-2008 07:49 PM

I hate Iowa. They're not even that good this year and pull off shit like that while my team can't win a game to save their life. So annoying.

nittanyalum 11-08-2008 08:44 PM

Thanks, Benz. Classy, dani.

This is me, so very, very sad. I hoped Joe would go out with an undefeated season. :( :( :(

Lol, it's happened before, and he's announced it openly.

JoePa is like the Queen of England or something- royalty/figurehead. He just sits there in the booth staring down at the field.

The loss also accomplished something- it set up a very (very) remote possibility that Pitt and Penn State could play each other in a bowl game. A few things would have to happen to accomplish that, though. But that would be awesome. It would piss off JoePa so much since he refuses to play us with a fair arrangement. Pitt doesn't always travel well, but that game would have great attendance.

My husband has a very limited list of bowl games that I will agree that we can go to- we just added any Pitt-Penn State game to that list. (we just got back from Aruba, we're going to the Final Four in Detroit and we're going to Alaska in June- I had to put some sort of limit on things!).

Benzgirl 11-08-2008 09:33 PM

kddani,
I need to agree with Nittanyalum. What you said was very disrespectful. Sure it happened before. Jo Pa IS elderly and I hope when you are his age no one makes fun of your health issues.

Seriously? Since when are either of you so sensitive??? Both of you have said things a lot worse about people, both public figures and people on this board.

JoePa has turned himself into a punchline for many who are outside of Happy Valley.

Happy Valley = HPRL????

kddani 11-08-2008 11:32 PM

Wow, Cincy shit the bed in the last two minutes of the game. Can't believe WVU tied it up.

DoubleTDG 11-09-2008 12:35 AM

I must say that I am proud of my Red Raiders after today's game against OSU. I would like to point out that Texas beat OSU by a mere 4 points while the Red Raiders beat OSU by 36 points. Texas didn't get 36 points on Baylor. :)

breathesgelatin 11-09-2008 01:52 AM

Predictions on rankings, anyone?

CrackerBarrel 11-09-2008 04:01 AM

Bama
TTech (the top two may be flipped, dunno)
Florida
Texas
OU
USC
Utah (may be flipped with USC)
Boise State

Penn State will be somewhere in the 10-13 range.

ETA: And I'm sorry PSU fans, but I'm glad you lost. You were the jokes of this years top 10 and SEC Champ vs. Big XII Champ is the best matchup and the game everyone has wanted to see all year. My prediction? Florida v. Texas for the title, Florida wins (and if TTech wins out and plays Florida, Florida wins even bigger).

AGDLynn 11-09-2008 09:49 AM

If/since Georgia doesn't have a chance for #1, I want Texas Tech to win it all!

OHNOITSJESS 11-09-2008 10:16 AM

yaay Tech! my red raiders have made me so proud!
and helped give me bragging rights on the 99% of my family that are UT fans ...
Woot!

Dani went to Pitt. I don't expect anything else from someone who went to Pitt.

Anyway, the Nits lost but its okay, I'm still repping PSU. I'm allergic to roses but I'd love to go to the Rose Bowl.

And to be honest, who expected to be 9-1 at this point at the beginning of the season, winning trips to Wisky and Ohio State? Two monkeys off the back (winning @ OSU, breaking the streak against Michigan). If the team handles its business against Indy and MSU, we're in Pasadena. And to be honest, most of us were hoping for Capital One Bowl at best, especially when Sean went out with the ACL injury.

GO STATE, BEAT INDIANA!

That's because Texas pulled its starters and played backups in the 4th quarter which is the classy thing to do (Florida did the same vrs Vanderbilt).

It has become an unfortunate thing in college football for teams to run up scores with the starters in, throwing passes until the end, when the game is well in hand (hint hint Texas Tech and Oklahoma).

My hope beyond hope is that Texas plays Florida - with a senior at Florida and a sophomore at Texas (plus husband who played for Texas in the 80's), we would break the bank to get tix and fly as a family to Miami. Talk about a split family!!! It would be crazy!!

em_adpi 11-09-2008 12:24 PM

I wanted a BCS bowl game so bad this year... alas, I don't think that is in the cards for my team.

It's gonna be tough for Texas to get there. They needed OSU to beat Tech. Now if OU beats Tech and OSU there's a 3-way tie in the Big XII South. The tie-breaker is highest BCS rank and I think if OU beats TTech they will jump and be the highest. And if OU beats Tech and loses to OSU then Tech wins the south because thats a two-way tie with Texas and they won head-to-head. Best route for Texas to get there seems to be the Big XII North team (Mizzou) beating either OU or Tech in the Big XII Championship game and hoping like hell to stay ranked over USC.

My bowl picks:
BCSCG: Florida (SEC Champ/#1) v Oklahoma (Big XII Champ/#2)
Rose Bowl: USC (Pac-10 Champ) v Penn State (Big 10 Champ)
Orange Bowl: Florida State (ACC Champ) v Pittsburgh (Big East Champ)
Sugar Bowl: Alabama (At-large, replacement for UF) v Boise State (At-large)
Fiesta Bowl: Texas (At-large, replacement for OU) v Utah (At-large)

I'm thinking Texas Tech loses to OU and misses out on the BCS games because the BCS can only have two teams from the same conference. OU goes to the BCS title game by being the #2 team and the Fiesta Bowl gets a replacement pick and takes Texas over Tech because the Horns have a bigger fan base and are will draw better rankings.

This is exactly what I was thinking, but was trying to figure out how to say. Though I think it will be a very hard/close game between OU and Tech, and may not turn out like I hope. (The Raiders are going to be tough.)
Unfortunately, Texas lost their chance when they lost to Tech.

The BCS is kinda unfair for Big XII teams (especially in the South) because we play such a hard schedule.

No joke. 3 of the top 5 are in the Big 12 south. [#2 Texas Tech, #4 Texas and #5 Oklahoma] it's like we are all trying to knock each other out and in the process [we can] knock all of us out. sigh. the irony

I died a little inside when I saw Iowa beat us by 1 point. I even cried-and I don't know that much about football...I just know that when an unranked team beats #3, that's a BAD thing. It said on tv that this is the first time in 18 years Iowa has beat a top 10 team. This is the equivalent of Michigan State or Michigan (I forget which school it was) getting beat by Appalachian. :o

So, sad for JoePa. :(

Yes-but, you said it yourself...He is a major figure at Penn State. Putting down JoePa to a Penn Stater is like saying something bad about the Pope to a Catholic. Some Penn Staters just shrug it off...Some Catholics just shrug it off but, you have the occasional Frank Sinatra that get pissed off you chose to be so disrespectful (a.k.a. Sinnead O' Connor). I think that's why they got so upset. JoePa is more than a coach-HE IS Penn State. Just look at how much he has given back to the school.

I love JoePa.

BTW...I'm not a Penn Stater, but I have a lot of respect for JoePa. I would have the same respect for any coach.

As for Dani's criticism of our bashing of GC'rs, it's typically Helicopter Moms who make you want to bang your head against the wall, not of an elderly "statesman" who has physical limitations.

To be fair, everyone on the board has their pressure points. Remember how upset all the Pittsburgh people got when people spoke ill of the city of Pittsburgh during the Steelers Super Bowl run?

I admit, I'm not a Penn State fan or a huge JoePa fan. But, he's given a lot back to the school (including with academics), and he essentially put the school on the map. I'd forgive Penn State alums if they're a little protective of the guy.

ETA: Not saying you're not entitled to your opinion of him, or to make a joke at his expense; but, if you do so, you should at least expect some backlash from the Penn State people.

What bowl game will Joe Pa be coaching in this year?

Dunno, Depends.
