I just found out that my DX boyfriend's younger biological brother received a bid to Kappa Sigma tonight! He is going to fit in perfectly:)

honeychile 03-20-2009 10:49 PM

FINALLY!! My kinda-cousin at Duquesne University was just initiated into Sigma Kappa a few weeks ago!

I have to admit, since the only other women in this "kinda cousin" triad are ADPis (even though we didn't know it at the time), it's a shame that she didn't go to a school with ADPi. What would have been the chances? :D

AGDee 03-21-2009 08:15 AM

I found out last night that my cousin's daughter is now a Pi Beta Phi at the University of Michigan. She rushed last year but I didn't know she was in a sorority until yesterday.

FSUZeta 03-21-2009 09:03 AM

how wonderful dee! congratulations to your cousin once removed.

Thank you! The relationship is tenuous, at best. My uncle and his first wife had a niece about 12 years older than I; we found out that we were both ADPis when she saw me in the Adelphean. My aunt died, and my uncle remarried, and my new aunt's daughter is the mother of the new Sigma Kappa. I don't think there's a name for those relationships in English other than, "oh, them!" but kinda-cousin sounds much nicer.

She will be such an asset to Sigma Kappa - I'm so glad that she finally decided to go greek!

Jill1228 03-21-2009 10:07 AM

I guess she is your step cousin :)
Congrats to her!

AGDee, congrats to the new Pi Phi

If I understand correctly, if your uncle is your biological relative, then "SK kinda-cousin" is no less your cousin than his daughter with his first marriage, except you don't have the same relationship because of the age difference. But, if your late aunt is the biological relative, then I guess "kinda cousin" would be the best?

Anyway, yay an SK at Duq, related to honeychile:).

My uncle is my biological uncle. He has no child by either wife. By his first wife, he has a niece, "Leslie" (his wife's sister's child) and by his sister (my mother), he has a niece (me). "Leslie" & I aren't related, except going to the same family events (and being ADPis!).

His second wife has a daughter whose daughter (my uncle's step-daughter) has a daughter ("Jill"). "Jill" is the new Sigma Kappa. Again, "Jill" & I aren't related, except through the family events.

So, the three of us are all kinda-cousins, no blood or step relationships.

AGDee 03-23-2009 05:25 AM

Your uncle's step daughter would be your step-cousin, wouldn't she?

Never heard of the term, but I suppose so. "Jill" would be my step-cousin's daughter - step-cousin, once removed? Ack!
