I only watched part of it, but at first glance, I'd say they've got J&K by one set of twins PLUS one of their sextuplets has cerebral palsy AND the parents are really likable and still genuinely seem to like each other, have fun and have kept their senses of humor. I think J&K have some competition! ;)

I watched one episode and found it boring. lol. Maybe I need to watch more episodes to really get a "taste" of the show.

I will say that I'm not much of a fan of JK + 8 anymore. I don't know if Kate has just said "to hell with it" and shown her true bitchy colors, or if those blogs really did influence my view on the show. But I now cannot stand Kate. Just watching older episodes of her i'm just  now.

I thought I was the only one who is feeling a little critical of Kate! I love the little kids but struggle with Kate and the cruddy way she talks to Jon. He is a sweetheart - sure he does some typical "man" things, but he is a saint and very involved. In my opinion, she is doing her daughters a disservice by openly criticising(sp) Jon in front of them. I think she means well, but that passive aggressive tactic where she talks to herself (or the kids) saying things like, "Don't listen to Daddy. He's mean," is ridiculous! What kind of message is that sending? Her sarcasm is a little irritating considering how anal she is about everything.

Okay, and one last rant. Will someone please, please start punishing Madi for the out of control and, at times, physical behavior? She needs some coping skills - I understand that the little kids are a stress - and her frustration is understandable. But, she is getting old enough to learn what is and is not acceptable regarding outbursts. There are ways to say, "I am unhappy," without screaming, hitting, pouting, stomping, and crying all the time.

That said, I still like the show and find lots of positives despite these irritations. Maybe in the future, the producers should put on camera more interaction between the littlest ones and less of Kate's complaints.

This is where spankings always worked for our family. Seriously.

Just telling Maddie to go to a different room or not participate in things isn't teaching her much. If she's sooo intent on whining about not getting her way, it isn't going to help if you tell her that she's not gonna be allow to make cookies (or whatever little activity they are involved in).

Her attitude isn't going to get any better, and she's going to start influencing some of the younger kids.

jess_pom 12-15-2008 11:28 PM

I only catch this show occasionally, but I feel it's evolved into a "let's see where my family can get paid to go on vacation" commercial. People didn't start watching the show to see them visit attractions throughout the country, we watched because we wanted a glimpse into the real life of a family with sets of multiples. The show has lost any authenticity it had when it switched to a pay to play attitude.

The whining almost made it hard for me to watch it.

How could J&K and the show's writers not know that 7 year olds will whine all day? 7 year olds should not be given big responsibilities like that, period!

The new episode hasn't aired here, yet. I'm curious to see what they do to give back.

nikki1920 12-16-2008 10:18 AM

That episode was very cute. (giving back) I was surprised that the kids got it.

Being mommy for the day: which one whined because the other one was so bossy? She'll get straightened out by her peers; no kid likes a bossy friend for long.

WhereTheMusic 12-16-2008 01:15 PM

is there a season finale set for the show? i figured the hawaii 2 parter would've been the finale.

Last night's episode was the Season 4 finale.

My mom is a big St. Jude supporter, so it was neat that JK8 chose St. Jude to give back to. I was also really surprised that the little kids mostly understood the concept of buying the cool stuff for other kids (not themselves). I think more parents need to do things like this on some level with their kids.

Amen. My momma was old school-- she'd say "if you don't stop whining, I'm going to give you something to really cry about." (Of course that was only if there really wasn't something wrong. She wasn't the devil.) I knew she wasn't playing-- that she'd whoop my little behind in a heartbeat.

That's cool because my mom's a big St. Jude supporter too!

My BF said that he hopes to expose his son to giving back, maybe some time next year. Right now he's only 3, so he doesn't quite "get it." :o

I was reading a friend's blog the other day, and she wrote that she couldn't find her 5 year old daughter's favorite coat one morning. When asked why the coat wasn't there, the girl told her mom that she gave it to her classmate because she was cold. My friend's daugher even told her classmate to keep it, because she knew that her classmate's family didn't have much. How about that. Isn't that so awesome?

I'm not a big fan of this blog, but they've already got the scoop on the Gosselin's new home in Wernersville, PA. $1.3 million was the price tag.

Their sources say the family's already moved in.

I thought I remember Jon saying that the new house wasn't in the same state? I know they said it wasn't in the same city or school district, maybe I just assumed they were gonna move out of PA.

I thought that too...especially since they were looking at property and land on their way to the Outer Banks.

But if you look at the slideshow on Photobucket, you'll see the living room and on the wall are the B&W professional photos that hung in their house in Elizabethtown. The photos are blurred out, but it's obvious what they were.

No it ain't just you. The way Kate talks to Jon is deplorable. Had it been the other way around, there would be some outrage. Jon needs to grow a pair... or take his cajones out of his wife's purse

Confused

Hi, my husband and I have just recently started to watch the show and are really enjoying it, but when I started to search the internet for some info on Jon & Kate's pregnancy issues I ran across some things. What is this whole deal with "Aunt Jodi" & her sister?

TLC offered to pay Aunt Jodi for being on the show. Kate would not allow it to happen. Why? I don't know. She's Kate.

Since that happened, Aunt Jodi has not appeared on the show -- same with Beth and her family, Nana Janet, and their other "helpers" except for Carla (she was in the garage sale episode) and their hired nanny.

It went into more detail on Aunt Jodi's sister's blog, but a lot of the entries have been removed.

Heavenlybrooks 01-07-2009 10:58 PM

I did see that but like you said the sister removed a lot of them. Did "Aunt Jodi" plan on taking the money?

It is. Or rather it can be -- just start talking about it again. :)

LOVE watching the kids grow up myself. I used to hate the show, but they've all definitely grown on me.

New house = nice. Alot less, um, crowded.

Question: Did Maddy & Cara always share a room with the little kids? They seemed to be excited about having their own room and I couldn't remember if they had them before.

Not that headaches are fun, but Hannah lucked out with getting her own room (esp. with all those kids).

I LOLed at the Mommy & Daddy privacy tirade a little bit.

I mean, I get that you don't always want your bedroom overrun with kids, but I think a simple, "No kids in here once we move in, okay?" would have sufficed. The "do not EVER come in here or you're in trouble" talk was a little overdone.

ETA: And are 4 yr olds usually incapable of wiping themselves??

PsychTau 01-27-2009 01:44 AM

So I just watched the episode about their new house. Nice.

My friend who lives in/near the same town (and who has a family member who used to work at the same hospital Kate worked at) said that they bought it from a doctor (near where they previously lived), and apparently they were pretty demanding about getting the previous owners out quickly.

I wonder if that had any bearing on how moldy and dirty the refrigerator was. ;)

I was also told the house was 3.5 million, and that the show paid for it, but I'm not exactly sure what that means (i.e. did TLC buy it outright, or did they help on the loan, or what).

I don't know if the twins ever shared a room with the sextuplets. They had their own room in House #1 (Wyomissing) and again in House #2. I know they lived in another house before they moved to Wyomissing, but I don't know if the 6 ever lived there. They had footage of that old house in old videos with Grandpa Gosselin.

People on the Gosselins Without Pity blog have said that Kate was unhappy with the how the house was left by the previous owners, so that's why they hired people to completely re-do it. One of the rooms had a "god awful" mural that Kate couldn't wait to get rid of. Of course this was all on a blog run by people who like to make stuff up for the sake of bashing Kate, so... Anyway, the slideshow's up and you can take a look at it for yourselves.

And regarding kids who can't wipe themselves -- I've got lots of nieces and nephews. Most of them were potty trained by age 3-3 1/2. It was still tough for them to wipe themselves by 5. Some still couldn't wipe themselves by 6-7. I guess it depends on the kid.

I don't understand how everything is redone, and yet the fridge has mold in it. lol.

I won't say which one, but one of mine had a hard time with wiping after #2 until around 7. It made me crazy, but it's kind of important to make sure it's done correctly too. The other one had no issues with that.

Like OTW said, the twins did have their own room in House #1, and in House #2 (the one just before this brand new house) they *technically* had their own room, but they had to go through "the girls'" room (hannah, alexis, leah's room) to get to theirs. So it wasn't necessarily that private.

I don't know about myself, but I do know that my cousin had a hard time wiping when he was younger. I remember my mom & aunts talking about how its harder for boys to do it than girls.

They both used to have regular jobs - he the IT planner and she the nurse, but since the show took off, they've been doing speaking engagements and have been promoting their books. I would think they'd be making $$$ off book and DVD royalties, not to mention the fat paycheck from TLC. I'd like to know how just how much just because I'm curious. I doubt they'll ever disclose that info, but Kate did say that all 8 will be able to go to college because of it.

I think that's great, because really, by the time it's time for them to start looking at colleges, tuition is probably going to be astronomical. I don't even want to think of what it'll cost them to send all 6 of the little kids.

Doesn't Kate still work part time as a nurse? I assumed she did it to get out of the house and interact with adults a few days a week.

She used to work every other Saturday....but then she stopped working completely to be a SAHM. Jon used to be an IT analyst, and then he got this new position (i believe in a different company) that would allow him to either work at home more often, or completely. But now I don't think he works at all....who knows.

HotDamnImAPhiMu 02-01-2009 06:09 PM

I stopped watching because Kate was always screeching at Jon - it was driving me crazy to see her verbally abusing him. I kept wanting to get off the couch, climb into the tv, and defend Jon. :)

KSUViolet06 02-03-2009 03:28 PM

I love this show.

But oh my goodness.

Kate made me want to put my head through the TV when she kept going on and on about the RECEIPTS and the COUPONS FOR THOSE STUPID SHOWER HEADS.

"JON, YOU DO NOT GO TO THAT STORE WITHOUT THE COUPONS!"

"WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE THE COUPONS?"

"WHERE ARE THE RECEIPTS?"

"JON, I NEED THE RECEIPTS!"

"JON, WHERE ARE YOU? I NEED THE RECEIPTS. YOU ARE TAKING THESE BACK TOMORROW."

"YOU SPENT $50 ON SHOWERHEADS?"

Seriously. She sounded as if they were destitute.

Lol a lot of the girls watch it at the house so when I'm there I'm subjected to the torture :p But that's always what I think! I'm always saying if she'd just stop yelling at him for five seconds!!!
