Can we please not put salt in my wounds. I've been crying all morning staring at his empty desk knowing that there's now an empty hole in my heart.

That's hot.

Getting back to the original topic (WOW.. Talk about thread drift!)
A petition won't help, but if we petite-type-women all take the time to write to each chain's general headquarters, it might have some impact. Also.. money talks. If those of us who are petite sized stop buying regular sized clothing and having them tailored at our own expense, the stores might get the message. Just say NO to tailoring! Have you also noticed that some of the petite sizes have grown? Eddie Bauer and some pants at Bloomingdales now have a 30 inch inseam that they call "Petite", NOT the normal 28! UGH! |

I have the problem of button-up shirts popping open between the buttons. But I have a clever solution: I cut a piece of double sided toupe tape and stick it between where it is popping open. You can buy the toupe take at Sally's Beauty Supply, or other beauty supply stores. |

I have chronic back problems from an accident about nine years ago and having large breasts doesn't help any. |
bumping because it's a tragedy that Miss Universe only has tall women in the pageant.

Gap has started a petite and tall section as well. Initially it is just online until they see how well it will do and then it would be moved into stores.

Best.thread.ever.
I actually had to leave my desk a couple of times at work because I was laughing so hard. |
If I cannot find something in my usual size, I go to the petite section and get the next larger size in Petite. For example, a regular 6 is the equivalent to an 8P. At least it is like that in Ann Taylor/Loft.
|
petites/plus size, yall do not have it harder than anyone else, you just have to LOOK for the clothes like the rest of us, and while it may take a little more time there are cute things out there for both of yall ... not all of the stuff is frumpy and outdated. i know because i go shopping with my mom and she's 5'1 and finds stuff all the time. so stop your bitching and moaning.
|
Everyone (well, maybe not the .5% of the population built like a model) is going to have problems getting clothes that fit. I am petite, small-breasted and I am short-waisted. It's really hit or miss for me. Just this weekend I went shopping. Why is everything cut so low now? Between the small breasts and the short waist, nothing with a "v" will work. Petite sections do tend to be dowdy, but with the internet it is possible to get almost anything made in petite sizes delivered to your home. I just have to try everything on - which I hate - but, in the grand scheme of things, no biggee.

I definitely agree with SWTXBelle. As an average height but thin woman [I am a size 2 in women's, but I have a chest] I always have to pay top dollar for anything because it's NEVER on sale in my size. I can't go to the sales racks without seeing 50 pairs of size 12 jeans in different styles and lengths, 50 pairs of 0s and NOTHING in the mid sizes.
I'm not saying this to be all crazy, because I know it's a silly thing to bitch about. I'm saying it to add to the proposition that shopping sucks in ALL sizes. |
Taller women have problems finding clothes to fit too. I'm 5'7" which is above average but not tall. I have a lot of trouble finding pants to fit. Most regular size pants have a 32" inseam. This is about 1.5 inches to short for me. I've resorted to buying my pants at 34 inches and having my tailor take them but that's if I can even find 34" pants. There's petite sections in many stores but no section for taller women. It's as if clothing companies don't think that women above 5'5" exist.
|
I am 5'4". I cannot wear petites. The short/ankle length is hideous and hits about 1-1.5 inches above where it should.
So, I do what any SANE woman does: I have my clothes tailored. My sister is 4'11". My grandmother is 4'10". THEY actually have a need for the petite section. But, since petite sections have few choices, they get their clothes tailored, too. They don't bitch and moan. They just do what they have to do to look good. |

Boobs and button-down tops and dresses don't work unless I can buy the tops in number sizes. Dress are a pain because unless I don't wear a bra (which isn't a good look for me cos they get squeezed in) I have to wear one size in my boobs and another everywhere else. And that doesn't exist. |
YES! Those of us with 36-inch inseams can't just add fabric to pants. I wish I had the option of hemming! It's ridiculous what I have to pay for decent pants.

Lol, sorry, I was looking for something else and found this, I just had to bump it. |
Seriously, I can't get enough of this thread. Especially this part:
Oh, and for the record I'm 5'6" and a size 6 or 8, but I still have to get most of my clothes tailored. Quote:

It amazes me how few people understand the whole short-waisted/long-waisted part of clothing. |
It has taken me the better part of the day because I could only read in fits and spurts, but I just read this entire thread. The comedy was worth it, but knowing that I just lost that much time out of my life to read someone's gripes about the growing evil that is designer-discrimination-against-the-teeny, I want to poke my eyes out. I think the OP is the same person who chastised the WGA for striking because it wasn't "polite", correct?
|
Short-waisted women, unite!
honeychile, I have given up on dress pants. It ain't happening.
|
Don't get me started on Petites. I am 5'4". Sitting down, I'm as tall as someone who is 5'8". But my legs are as short as ... well, short. My inseam is around 29" but I have a very long waist.
Petite dresses don't fit because they are too short from the waist to the shoulders and the arm lengths hit well above the wrist. The waistband of the pants hit far below where they should, so I always feel like I have a "wedgie". As for tops and jackets, I buy straight sizes. I prefer buying pants in straight sizes, but often, once I have a 34" inseam hemmed, they break wrong on my leg. Bottom line.... buying pants is an excruciating experience for me. I also agree that Petite sizes look like something my 4'10" grandma would have worn. Too many elastic waist bands and pastel colors. They are often designed to make grown women look too cutsie! |
The moronic designers do not do it for regular people but the beautiful ones!:p
People are not built like models but just us regular folks. Normal people are not bolimic. We are normal folks, not built like gods. |
I just sat and re-read this thread...HILARIOUS!
:D |

I'm 5 nothing, and HATE HATE HATE shopping for clothes. I have to try EVERYTHING on. I get my tips from watching What Not To Wear, actually. I know what stores I can shop in and what brands to buy. But it is frustrating to go to the Petite section and see grandma-ish clothes, assuming granny had NO sense of fashion or style.

Petite Fashionista Presents, an event hosted by a friend of mine, was this past weekend and I've written two posts about it in my blog. One went live today, and is a wrap-up of the event. The other one was mostly pictures of the event, which went up on Sunday evening.
I hope the designers will become major names some day! :) |
Big names?

Except for Joe's Jeans (Paige Premium Denim was SOLD at the event, but not part of the fashion show), the other brands presented are basically unknown. |

(What Joproper REALLY means to say is that he wants you to click on the link in his signature, because he's not REALLY greek at all, he just wants everyone to look at his website and buy his crappy junk).

But I love this spammer for bumping such a hilarious thread!
