I really like Jeff Beck's new album a lot.

SydneyK 06-28-2010 04:45 PM

I read on Yahoo! that Tom Cruise's recent flick, Knight and Day, bombed. The story says that it bombed because the general public hasn't yet forgiven Tom for jumping on Oprah's couch several years ago.

I wonder whether it's the couch-jumping incident, or if it's his interview with Matt Lauer (the whole meds to treat depression thing), or if it's just his Scientology in general. I really wonder which of those is really behind the Tom Cruise ick factor.

I'm going to say it's because the general public thinks he's weird and can't relate to Tom Cruise the person, let alone as a "leading man".

I'm going to go with that. I mean it's not that I haven't 'forgiven' him for anything, he's just .. still weird. Very strange. As well as not particularly interesting as an actor. Johnny Depp is strange and he's at least an interesting actor, even if you don't think he's in good movies.

While everybody else went to midnight showings of Eclipse last night.. I am taking two teenage girls to the midnight showing of The Last Airbender 3D tonight. Oh yay (can you hear the sarcasm??)

AlphaFrog 01-09-2011 02:30 PM

I just flipped on MTV's "I used to be Fat" (which is like Made, except it's all people trying to lose weight, which is usually involved in everyone's Made anyway).

OH.EM.GEE. How the eff did this show get past the amount of people it needs to get past (directors, producers, network execs, etc) to get on the air without someone saying "THIS SUCKS!"??? This chick is the whiniest, cryingest baby I've ever seen...and I've been trapped in a car with two pissed off toddlers on various occasions.

Psi U MC Vito 04-03-2011 07:52 PM

So I can not wait until the 7th of June now. Just found out a band was created by two of my favorite artists and that is when they drop the first album.

So - the cheesy lawyer advertisements on TV - are those ads effective? Why would I want someone who morphs into a tiger representing me in court? And, what's reassuring about a guy whose name invokes lightening and thunder? I wonder whether these folks are taking themselves seriously.

Now I'm thinking about Tommy Jefferson and his American flag commercial. (Has anyone else been watching Harry's Law? I don't remember seeing any threads/posts about it. I'm really liking it!)

They take themselves very seriously.

I mock them.

There's a lawyer here who has.... Wait for it.... William Shatner as the spokesperson endorsing him.

knight_shadow 04-06-2011 12:32 PM

I don't mind the lawyer commercials as much as the "HEY! What are you doing with your life? Get off your lazy ass and go to ABC Tech and School Of Cosmetology!" commercials.

Well he did play a lawyer on TV after all. Plus it's Captain Kirk. Enough said.

Looks like he must be doing a lot of these commercials. I tried finding the local lawyer's ad but here's one for a MI lawyer.

When I first read your post, I was thinking you'd been here and seen that one...lol. I was pretty sure I had seen a Michigan one with him in it.

Woooooow this week's ANTM was NUTS!!

As unprofessional, rude, and unkind as Alexandria has been, Brittani got the lecture she deserved. You NEVER throw a tantrum in front of a client. Like, EVAH.

I think the Alexandria girl should have gone home. Didn't the judges complain about her attitude from the get-go? She may not have raised a stink in front of THAT client, but her history showed her raising one in front of others.

Yeah but she wasn't the one who was wrong in this week. The judges said she only had one more chance and she hasn't blown it yet. It wouldn't be right to give her a pass on the other times then get rid of her on the week that it was someone else acting up. Maybe she'll slip up and go home next week!

The Warblers just performed on Today. They're not very good without the benefit of the lip syncing, pitch-correcting, and heavy editing they get on Glee.

SydneyK 04-29-2011 10:10 AM

I'm not a faithful watcher of The Office, but I watched last night. I loved the airport scene - that Michael and Pam got to say good-bye privately. So sweet.

SydneyK 08-24-2011 09:46 AM

Has anyone else watched Take the Money and Run?
I'm disappointed in (and surprised by!) the contestants who crack and tell the interrogators where the case is hidden. I mean, didn't they know when they signed on that they would be incarcerated for 48 hours? And even though they're locked up and fed only beans (ha!) it's not like they're ACTUALLY incarcerated. They get to go home in two days. Pretty sure I could suck it up and deal with it for the $100K prize.

Okay, did anyone catch 90210? Two of the characters "pledged" a sorority. The story was so poorly written. Didn't anyone on that show go through rush/recruitment? They got all of the terminology and process wrong.

There was a row of tables outside, where each sorority was handing out flyers. After tossing each flyer that the "loser" sororities handed them, Naomi and Annie chose one to "pledge".

Each one of them was given three "trials of fire" by their "big sister" and if they completed it, they would become members. Hilarity ensues as Naomi has to eat dinner with a farm animal, walk across campus in her underwear, and then has to zipline across the football field in the rival team's mascot costume.

Annie had to kiss a statue of Abraham Lincoln, kiss a "frat guy" and something else I can't remember. Then they had initiation. Plot twist and spoiler - they didn't anticipate Naomi completing the tasks (she was set up to fail for some "unknown" reason!!! zOMG!!!?!) so they had initiation without her.

But wait! She gets there just in time...to be told that they had it in for her the whole time because she bought the mansion that the sorority wanted to buy for their new house. Lame. And yes I realize I am lame for watching it but it was just so poorly done - I had to!

You're not the only one that watched. I've never watched the show before, but I tuned in for this episode because I saw it advertised earlier that day. I was also annoyed that they referred to the chapter the girls were rushing as "Kappa." I always get annoyed when TV shows/movies use real nicknames for their fake organizations.

I still do not understand why The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo needed to be remade.

The original trilogy is awesome. They could have given it a few more years before remaking it. When I saw the commercial for this remake, I said "what? That sounds familiar...."

You know -- I noticed the film on Netflix and was wondering why they were running commercials for it. I had no idea it was a remake.

Why remake it 2 years later? Hmm..

Because the original is a foreign language film. Enough said.

That makes sense along the same lines as the horrible 2002 movie The Ring was a remake of the much better 1998 Japanese film Ring.

I stick with the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I enjoyed it and the English translation was clear. Plus, originals tend to be better and that is also the case with many foreign language films.

I will. I rarely go to theaters, so it'll likely be a while before I see the remake.

The original is in my Netflix queue now lol

Has anyone seen Courageous?

I'm so confused by a Christian movie having a PG-13 rating. My kids (5 and 7) want to see it, and I've definitely let them watch PG-13 before, but I'm not sure about this one. To me, PG-13 is such a broad category. I've seen PG-13s and wondered why the heck they were given that label - both because I either thought that it was much more innocent and more of a PG (Addams Family, for example) and because it was really raunchy for a young teen and probably should have been R (new Twilight movie - I read somewhere that they were literally one second of bedroom scene away from.getting an R rating - they cut a "thrust" to make the rating).

I saw it and it is AMAZING. There's no foul language. I think the rating is because there is some "violence" because it's a story about cops. There are drug busts and gang members. If I had kids, I wouldn't have a problem with them seeing it, but it may make you feel better if yoiu watch it without them first.

LOVE the movie. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

SydneyK 01-08-2012 12:22 PM

I enjoyed John Grisham's The Firm. I was disappointed in the movie, but could live with it. Now they're making a TV series out of it? How is that gonna work? My plan is to avoid the series until I read a few reviews.

Xidelt 01-08-2012 04:46 PM

Blue Ivy Carter? Really? I guess having money and fame = stupid names for your kids.

IndianaSigKap 01-08-2012 05:43 PM

Absolutely Fabulous is back tonight for three episodes after an 8 year absence. I saw this on a list of things to watch tonight. It's airing on both BBC America and Logo. I also read there is an Ab Fab movie in the works.
