Woo hoo! Yankees are DONE!

AGDee 10-07-2006 10:54 PM

The Tigers have restored the ROAR! Way to go boys! I had to keep flipping between the Michigan-Michigan State game and the Tiger game. The most awesome was hearing the whole crowd at Michigan react when they heard the Tigers had won it since BOTH sides at that game would've been Tiger fans!

I'm so glad they broke out of their slump.

SSS1365 10-08-2006 12:24 AM

Mets sweep the Dodgers to advance to the NLCS! :D :D :D

Ok, I'm done. Can't get too excited yet!

BetteDavisEyes 10-08-2006 12:28 AM

DAMN YOU DODGERS! EVERY DAMN YEAR YOU DO THIS TO ME! WHY? WHY? WHY??? :(

AGDee 10-10-2006 11:20 PM

I don't like playing West Coast teams.. I really need to get to sleep. I'm afraid if I go to sleep, we'll suddenly give up 6 runs and lose it in the 9th inning. Come on Tigs, let's get this game over with!

You and Mr. BSB need to form a support group. He is still very upset about this.:(

AGDee 10-10-2006 11:42 PM

One down, three to go. Thank you Tigers! ROARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

KSigkid 10-11-2006 07:34 AM

Well, at least the Yankees didn't hire Pinella, which would have been a tremendous mistake. Now hopefully they don't make an even bigger mistake and trade A-Rod.

He's gone dude - it was one or the other.

I hope you enjoy the Ervin Santana era - I'm sure Chone will more than surpass ARod's paltry .300/40/120 production by stealing . . . 40 bases . . . loooooool

(Note: I'm just trying to make myself feel better for the inevitable Manny trade . . . puke)

Cory Lidle, of the Yankees, was killed today when the small plane that he was piloting crashed into a NY apartment building. :(

I've joked before about hating the Yankees, but of course I would never wish this on anyone. My thoughts are going out to his family.

Word up - the worst thing that ever happened was the White Sox winning the WS . . . even though they continuously won on HRs, and ONLY HRs, somehow it's "smartball."

On the bright side, I'm pretty sure the Red Sox will never play for one run, unless, y'know . . . you only need one run? Weird huh.

AGDee 10-12-2006 06:30 AM

The Tigers continue to surprise us! While hopeful that they would beat the A's, I don't think anybody expected us to take both of their home games. Come on back home guys, and finish this series!!

I'm bummed that I won't be in town this weekend. I hope I get a chance to check scores...

KSigkid 10-14-2006 08:09 PM

I'm not a Detroit fan, but that was one of the cooler things I've seen in baseball. Congrats to the Tigers fans on getting to see your team in a World Series.

purplewindex 10-14-2006 09:05 PM

TIGERS!! I seriously cried when Magglio hit it out of the park to win it. Oh man. Such an amazing moment! :D

PM_Mama00 10-14-2006 10:42 PM

I'm not really a baseball fan. I hate watching the games cuz they were always so boring, but this is so exciting! One of my co-workers said it's a Cinderella story and it really is. I can't believe how much they SUCKED before and now they are on to the World Series! It's amazing and everyone here in Detroit is so proud.

There's a teeny tiny bit of me that's proud of the Tigers :D

Well I know I'm being awfully pessimistic as a Mets fan, but I think the Tigers basically won the World Series last night. Actually playing the games will just be a formality.

I was at Alpha Gam Headquarters for a meeting this weekend and was so worried about not being able to watch the Tiger games. We went to dinner last night and the restaurant had a bar area with a TV. The game was on and it was 3-3. I kept my eye on it as long as I could, but then we had to go back to IHQ and finish up our meetings. My phone vibrated during the meeting and I peeked to see who it was and it was my mom. Since she's been so sick lately, I was really worried, so I excused myself to check the voicemail she left. It was "I just wanted to be the first to tell you that the Tigers are going to the World Series". I was really excited. They did a great job and I can't believe they swept Oakland. I am very proud of our guys.

I am concerned that we have a whole week off before the Series, because we may lose momentum in that time period. Then again, we may have some time to recoup from some injuries. I guess time will tell!

This is really fun :)

As a fun aside, it was an EMU student (my alma mater) who caught the winning HR ball. Also, Oct. 14th was the day Kirk Gibson hit a homer to win Game 5 of the World Series in '84. I was at the game, and a 19 year old student at EMU at the time. I didn't catch that ball, sadly, but I did sit next to the U Mich band in the bleachers and they were a riot!

I really wish I could afford to take my kids to a World Series game as my dad took me to that one...

AGDee 10-19-2006 10:37 PM

*bump* Because it's almost World Series time. Detroit is having a great time with this and we're excited to find out who we'll be playing. They are saying that the World Series will bring more money and business into the city than the Super Bowl did! Both in one year... in a state with an economy that really needs the boost! Cardinals or Mets? It's 1-1 in the 7th inning.. neither is giving up easily, that's for sure!

xo_kathy 10-19-2006 11:52 PM

Poor dear husband, a life long Mets fan who was at the game tonight. :( And we will be back in MI visiting my family next weekend - we were looking forward to a Mets/Tigers series. Oh well...now I don't have to worry about a divorce when I say...

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

shinerbock 10-19-2006 11:58 PM

Thank God the mets lost. I hate the Cards too, but lesser of two evils, you know.

Yeah, the Mets are so evil

No, I think Pujols and Belliard, particularly, showed their true colors this series. Didn't see anybody on the Mets acting like such an asshole.

Anyway, I'm pissed, but then there's always next year. I hope the Tigers crush the Cards.

efcheerBB 10-20-2006 07:39 AM

By reading some of the last few comments, I know that people will disagree with me, but GO CARDS!!!!!!!

I am excited that it will be a Cards/Tigers World Series. My friends and I have been joking since the beginning of the season that it was going to come down to these two teams in the end so we are happy!

Uh, so Belliard belly-flopped on Reyes . . . that's pretty standard, especially since Reyes goes into second pretty hard. Pujols definitely did not show up anyone by running Floyd's grounder - he bobbled, and it's much 'safer' than throwing.

Past that, what on Earth are you talking about? I really don't like the Cards at all, but this is back-page bullshit at its finest.

Thrillhouse 10-20-2006 10:40 AM

Gotta love Preston Wilson, 0-3 with three strikeouts.

The cards took the 1934 world series, the tigers took the 1968 world series, and now the rubber match.

How about that crap that Pujols said? People say things in the heat of the moment, sure, but he didn't exactly apologize for it. Also, I didn't see the play where he raced Floyd to first, so I can't comment on that. I can only go by what my husband said, and he's a pretty objective guy. And Belliard may not have intentionally landed on Reyes, but he didn't need to stay on top of him for as long as he did. You don't have to agree with me on that, because that could be just my opinion.

But can you explain the point of this?:

During the champagne celebration in their clubhouse, players gathered around several times and chanted "Jo-se, Jose, Jose, Jose, " mocking the popular chant Mets fans crow when Reyes comes to the plate.
There's nothing wrong with celebrating your victory, but come on.

I'm sure you still see nothing wrong with it. Whatever, I'm done.

Go Tigers.

You're right, people say things in the heat of the moment - and the Cards had just lost an emotional game, so hey, if Pujols doesn't think Glavine had his stuff that night (I believe that is the comment you're referring to), then so be it. If you listened to any commentator after that game, they said the same thing: Glavine got away with a lot of hittable pitches.

As to the celebration - I assume you've never been in a locker room (high school, college, pro, whatever), because that stuff happens EVERYWHERE. I guarantee similar comments were made in the Mets locker room about the Cardinals, or after the first round series. The only difference here is someone reported it.

Be upset your team lost, root for the other team, whatever - but the Cardinals weren't acting any differently than 99% of athletes would in that situation.

Totally agree - and am a Mets fan (though via a move to NY and a marriage! ;) )

But I also agree with SSS1365's
Go Tigers!
(But I would have siad that anyway!)

Thrillhouse 10-21-2006 01:28 PM

Cowher and Co. were mocking the whodey chant last year after a playoff win. I agree, things like this happen all the time.

On another note, does anyone think the cardinals can win A game this series? I'm thinking no.

I just puked all over myself reading this.

-Tom Glavine is a Hall of Famer. He also sucks, right now, today. Tom Glavine sucks. There, I said it- it's the truth. Pujols was right - they should have shelled the guy.

-Belliard "stayed too long" on Reyes? Really? Sports, dude - sports. In the immortal words of Herm Edwards, "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME. THIS IS WHY YOU PLAY." You're being a homer. Don't.

-I would be much more pissed if the Cardinals DIDN'T mock the (incredibly lame) "Jose" chant. You were right in exactly one sentence - "There's nothing wrong with celebrating your victory." Competition is not a tea party, and it should not be a tea party.

Ok, fooie on you for that part!

It's a fun one! It's one of my favorite sporting event chants actually (though doesn't come close to punching my fist to a rousing round of 'Hail to the Voctors'!). :D

I loves me some "Joe Kings" (as my husband likes to call him).

hahaha, ok, you're right - I shouldn't have gone with 'lame' because lame ones are usually the best, let's be totally honest.

I think mocking the chants, though, is totally fine - they were prohibitive underdogs, and won. That's what happens.

RU OX Alum 10-23-2006 03:26 PM

i think other than the "drama" that was mentioned above posts, that it's been a pretty interesting series so far, and I look forward to enjoying the conclusion

go cards

ZTAMich 10-23-2006 09:19 PM

(Kathy you might appreciate this little hijack...)
My fiance is home in Detroit this week with tickets to the home games. He had so much fun last night with his brother he got a little drunk & bought some hideous Tigers jacket. If he thinks it's hideous I can only imagine what it looks like. I told him it needs to STAY in Michigan. LOL

ROOOAR!

xo_kathy 10-24-2006 09:40 AM

LOL, Michelle. After the win my husband offered to buy me a jacket like the team was wearing. I said, "WTH would I want that?" If he was drunk when he got it, it's got to be bad!!

Hey, how'd he get tickets?!? It's my dad's 60th birthday this week and we'll be back in Detroit for Game 6 - so if it gets that far we'd love to take him to the game. So far we've had no luck tracking down a pair.
