BALTIMORE - Former NAACP President Kweisi Mfume announced Monday that he will run for the U.S. Senate in 2006.
"It is with great pride and deep humility that I announce to you today my candidacy for the Senate of the United States," Mfume said at a news conference in Baltimore. "I can't be bought. I won't be intimidated. I don't know how to quit," Mfume said as his supporters applauded. Mfume, who was a five-term U.S. congressman before becoming president of the Baltimore-based National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (news - web sites), issued the statement after incumbent Paul Sarbanes announced Friday that he will not run for re-election. "This is step one in what will be an embarrassment of wealth for the Democratic Party in 2006," said Derek Walker, spokesman for the Maryland Democratic Party. Mfume, 56, left the House in 1996 to take the NAACP post. At the time, the civil rights group was in turmoil — rocked by an embarrassing sex scandal involving its previous head, bitter internal strife and a crippling $3.2 million deficit. Many observers say Mfume brought credibility and stability, working to institute corporate style-management practices. When he stepped down in November, the organization had enjoyed a budget surplus for eight consecutive years and an increasing endowment fund. Mfume, whose adopted West African name translates to "conquering son of kings," began his career as a dashiki-clad radio talk show host and political activist in the 1970s. He also has been mentioned as a possible Democratic candidate for governor of Maryland. Sarbanes, 72, announced Friday that he would not seek a sixth term, noting that he would be 80 by the time that term ended. "It was just the right time," Sarbanes said. "We think we've served long and well and honorably, and we're very comfortable with this decision." Maryland traditionally votes Democratic, and went for John Kerry (news - web sites) in the 2004 presidential election. Sarbanes, the longest serving senator in Maryland's history, is serving alongside outspoken Democratic Sen. Barbara Mikulski (news, bio, voting record). Four of Maryland's six Democratic congressmen, Ben Cardin, C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, Chris Van Hollen and Al Wynn, said when Sarbanes announced his retirement that they were considering running for his seat. article |

I guess what I am getting at is I don't believe he broke into her townhouse. I'm not saying she's not telling the truth...I just don't believe the truth she's telling...:o |

I don't like Nancy Grace and her huge nostrils at all. She talks the same way when she's doing Michael Jackson's trial like she knows he's guilty. Then she doesn't let you answer because she always cuts you off midsentence. I don't understand. I thought all media was supposed to be impartial. |

First they said he broke in her house, then on CBS this morning, they said he knocked on her door. Okay so what did he do, knock, knock, knock......Ma'am I was just wondering if you could share the good word with me today because I'm in some serious trouble or did he ask if she could make him some pancakes(that was also mentioned in a report)??? Maybe he was tired of jacking people and shooting, so he wanted someone to witness the goodness of Jesus to him since he knew he was pretty much done for??? The whole thing just seems soooooo bizzare.....LOL. So my next question is, which is posed to all, do you believe what he said when he told her that God sent him to her door??? They might wanna hold on to that $60k for a spell. |
Wait! CNN said he followed her from the store, where at 2:30 AM, she went to get 'cancer sticks' to her home. Then, she said he put a gun to her SIDE and said if she screamed, he would kill her.

Lawdy B. Jesus! See what I mean? So now he followed her....if all the media would get together and tell one story it would be so appreciated by a nosey viewer like me....:p Now this is the first I have heard about the cigarettes. I could write the truth and make it very believable for a measly buck fiddy! :o In the whee (altered spelling) hours of Saturday morning a young woman by the name of Ashley Smith discovered she was down to her last cigarette. She often smoked while meditating on God's word. Ashley decided it was best to go to the 7-11 to purchase more cigarettes before the 4am rush hour of the clubbers. As she was leaving 7-11 at 2:15 she was approached by a young black male fitting the description of the alleged gunman Brian Nichols. He sold her on the idea of how he could save her a small fortune on her cigarettes by switching to Geico. Ashley was very impressed by his presentation and asked him to follow her to her lil mini mansion on the hizzill. Ashley was a little taken aback when he insisted on using her bathroom. She was hesitant, but she let him in. Once he was inside of her mini mansion he whipped out his gat and told her if she screamed he'd buss a cap in her @&$....... He took his shower, asked her for her pancake recipe and then looked at the table and saw the Holy Bible. Brian wondered why God sent him to 7-11 at a quarter of 12. Brian also wondered why he had to wait two and a half hours for his answer when it hit him.......He didn't know. However, what he did know was that he killed a lot of innocent people and he needed to own up to it. After complying to Brians request of not screaming, Ashley started quoting scriptures to him. He felt pity for her and for the sake of her little girl he let her go. She got on her cell phone with one little icon left due to the fact that it hadn't been charged in a day or so, she was able to get through to the PoPo who is also taking the credit for Brian being captured. I mean after all, if he hadn't gone to the window and saw that there was a cop to practically every door in the complex he never would have broke out the white towel, t-shirt or as of today a single white kleenex tissue and surrendered. The folks of ATL can now rest assure that because of the quick thinking of Ashley Smith and or Bubba'n'm Peach Tree Street and the surrounding area can go back to life as they know it just peeaachy! . All donations can be made to Gyrl7's News Forum.....:o |

Tony and Vanda:
Nancy Grace is so damn bias. She was on Saturday almost in tears over the shooting of Judge Barnes. I think that it was very unprofessional for her to report on a story about someone she was "close" too. I don't know if you saw her coverage of the Scott Peterson trial, but she all but flipped the switch. Yes I thought he was guilty, but her job is not to convey that to the viewer. She needs to be taken off the air. She's doing the same thing with the Michael Jackson case. If I was good with web design, I'd make a website called www.firenancygrace.com. Any web designers out there wanna help me? |
Gyrl7 you are outta control!! LOLOLOL :D

Someone wants to save 50's soul!
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/149...headlines=true
Since he left Korn last month to focus on Christianity, Brian "Head" Welch has delivered a sermon from the pulpit, traveled to Israel and been baptized in the Jordan River. Now he's turning his attention to saving souls — and he's decided to "There is really no way [50] can come back at me through music because it's not from me ... it's from the Big Guy. Even 50 respects the Big Guy." — Head start with 50 Cent. |

Ol' Girl Ashley
The version I heard was that when she went to her car he pulled into a space close to hers at the apt. complex. When she came back, he had moved closer to her spot. she was able to get a good view of him. I ain't trying to start nothing but how many women would get out the car when she sees some strange man lurking in her parking lot at 2 in the morning unless you were waiting on him? She said she may visit him in the pokey, I wonder what's the real deal? I know when they had surrounded the complex Saturday, they said he was holed up in a female acquaintance's apt. Nupe 4 Life, let me know when that website is up and running ( I'm surprised there isn't one up yet by anyone).

She (Ashley) said on CNN that she went to the store to get the cigarettes and he followed her to the apartment. :o

From mtv.com
Lyn Collins, a sassy singer who was part of James Brown's band in the early 1970s, died Sunday night at the age of 56. Collins joined the James Brown Revue in 1970 and later cut saucy funk records backed by Brown's musicians. Her version of the Godfather of Soul's "Think" was sampled by Rob Base and D.J. E-Z Rock for their 1988 rap hit, "It Takes Two."

The loss of a life is always sad, and the loss of a little bitty life even sadder. I'm sorry for this mother's loss.
http://www.wftv.com/health/4286333/detail.html I'm hoping that she is saying that her trust is in the SON, but I don't think that's what she was talking about. . . |
