It's not any of the contestants' fault that they stay or get voted off. I know you meant nothing by the above comment, but comments like those and the "threats" against Red are so unfair. Look at it this way...it's not Jasmine's fault that Latoya and Fantasia's fans didn't call in as much. As I said in the CC forum, Diana and Jasmine are America's sweethearts. They've got the home base (GA & HI) and a HUUUUUUGE teenybopper following voting them in. |

First...THAT DIDN'T MAKE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SENSE!!! She sounds better than all of them. My mother said she saw on some show (Extra or something) today that they asked the four of them who they really felt would win, and they said LA TOYA.
BUT, and I've heard this discussed elsewhere (I'm too tired to scroll and see if anyone already said this), its hard for two or more blacks in the running, because blacks who they feel will be their core voting base are split between them, instead of all votes going to one or the other. They said that's why LaToya, Fantasia and Jennifer didn't have a chance as a group to make it tothe final three, our votes were split. Now, with the Jasmine and the other girl, they have more mass appeal, because the "mass" is not black. I mean, not to be funny, but if we as blacks feel that we can out vote everyone else, we can't, even if every black voted for one of the black contestants, it wouldn't equal to if everyone else voted for the non-black contestants. That's if you wanna look at this as a racial issue. But, I think that the white girl (I cannot remember her name for NuTHIN) will end up winning. She has a good strong voice, she's a "nice" girl, favors Lee Ann Rhimes, and she's...perky. Young people are looking for another GOOD young singer to relate to, since Christina and Brittany (not that she was good, but she was out there) have crossed over into the Land of Ho, Jessica can sing, but she's married, so out of direct role model category for teens, so that leaves Kelly and...well not much else, qualitywise for teen america, so I think she will win. Jasmine is pretty, but not strong voiced enough. And Fantasia, well, I don't like her, sorry. Her voice is not bad, but its not Idol material. *ducking the rotten tomatoes* ***If this doesn't make sense, its because I'm exhausted and can't half see straight*** |

I KNEW this was going to happen. Ole girl from Hawaii will be out next and the dirty blonde will be the NEXT AI. Those 3 ladies KNEW LaToya was THE BEST! Donna Summer STILL has that voice. It's been almost 30 years and her voice is still powerful. Hmmm, I guess she wasn't smoking cigaretters and such. |
I agree that there should be a massive boycott of AI.
Then again, most of the entertainers out there DON'T HAVE TALENT NOR NATURAL ABILITIES! They are just that ENTERTAINERS. |

Wait a minit, I think she did swagger from side to side a little bit. Her voice does sound really good, though. |
What are thoughts on this?
I'm reposting this from another site I visit.
=========================================== Posted by Maestro1906 Posted - May 13, 2004 10:21:18 AM This morning, on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Tom started his "Express Yourself" segment of the show. Well many Black people were calling in, expressing their frustrations with last night's American Idol. Well, it was really the same old argmegnts and complaints until this White lady called and said that the reason why the Black female singer (I forgot her name) got booted off was probably because of Tom's show. She said that, at first, she very actively voted for her (the Black girl) because she clearly believed that she was the best singer on the show. She said that she voted for the girl until Tom Joyner and Jay, a couple of days ago, said something about "The Whites have got to go...." on the show. After that, she said that she was so mad, she called ALL of her friends and intentionally voted for the White or non-Black people. She said that she did this strictly because of the "mess" that Tom Joyner and Jay said on their morning show a couple of days ago. She said that other White people across the nation that listen to his show probably did the same thing. (Jay promply hung up on her) Now, even through all of the racial stress that this show is receiving, do you think that her point has some truth to it? Do you think that certain Black programs, such as the Tom Joyner Morning Show, are talking so bad about all of this racial stuff with American Idol that it is actually hurting, rather than helping, the cause? Are our "untactful" outcries for racial justice just putting more fuel on the fire? Be honest..... Indulge me...... ===================================== What are your thoughts on this? |
Whatever. So this woman telephoned umpteen millions of people? Whatever.
Lame. Talent and Natural ability means nothing in this industry. |

Move through your anger and disappointment to see the validity of her words. Perhaps you should read sentiment shared in the rest of the thread. http://simplygreek.com/forum/topic.asp?fid=2&tid=5306 |
I think what happened is a repeat of the bs that kept happening during season one when the show was fresh-there were people that Simon had rejected but Paula/Randy put through-when it got to the groups of 10's Simon would criticize some of these non-singers and the american public would go crazy and vote through blatantly weak singers. Because of this some very good singers never got the chance to be in the final 10 portion of the competition. Of course the weak singers were voted out in the first couple of weeks-waste of time and opportunity.
The minute Simon said what he said and Jasmine started crying I feared the fix would be in. There are some people who absolutely can't stand Fantasia or Latoya and are still upset that untalented John (Redhead) was voted out...thus the Jasmine pity party started. I may not watch again-just turn on at the end to see what Fantasia's call in number is and keep voting for her-although with Clive Davis as the guest judge next week it will be interesting to hear what he has to say to the non note hitting bubble gum DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE THERE -Jasmine). Shoot-I hope he gives Latoya a record deal as she sits in the audience! I'm tired of people saying Latoya's supporters didn't vote for her. Thanks to free calling on my cell I spent two hours-hitting redial (between her & Fantasia) and got busy signals the majority of the time. To Diana's credit-she has been getting better each week- & I think depending on song choices among the three (Latoya/Fantasia/herself) she did have the potential to upset either of them next week to end up in the final 2. With Jasmine still in the mix I've lost all hope for this show. Simon as exec producer better take the voting process out of fox's hands or the show will not make it another season. |
I pretty much agree with stardusttwin. When Jennifer was voted off, Simon said that this is supposed to be talent competition but obviously, it’s turned into a popularity contest. America loves an underdog, either real or perceived, and they pass them through. Some people may have been bent about TJ & Jay’s comments but overall, I think that it is the underdog thing.
Now, I do like John, but I didn’t vote for him. AI was just not his thing. He reminds me of Harry Connick, Jr. (I’ve been a HUGE Harry fan since we were in high school.) Harry does very well in the jazz, big band and New Orleans funk genres. I think that the first two could be John’s niche. I did vote for my boy George but I knew that he wasn’t going to last. My prediction is the Degarmo girl to win. |
This was my first season and probably my last watching AI. I've watched from the very beginning of this season. I'm truly disgusted by LaToya's being booted off.
Call me a cynic, but perhaps we need to realistically look at what 'is' an American Idol. Who does this person talk like, dress like, and look like? As far as singing abilities, who can I closely relate this person to sounding like? I ask these questions because I've been on the General Forums of GC regarding this very same topic and have seen that perhaps some of them really can't relate to what we as black people would feel is an 'idol'. Not only were a vast marjority of them very critical about the fact that Ruben beat Clay last year, some of them have totally demonized Fantasia Barino for her looks, the way she talks, etc. Obviously that forum is only a small collection of America- yet one has to wonder is it really a racial issue or is it a matter of 'preference'? Here's a link to an article on MSN http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4972262/ |

I was livid when LaToya was voted off, but I really liked how she handled herself. She knew that she would receive an record contract, and if she signed with Elton John...Kudos to her. I just hope that Fantasia doesn't get booted out by Jasmine and Diana. They can not sing better than her, and it's just that simple.

Do y'all see my Fantasia ripping it UP.... KILLING EM
|
Ok.. RBL is now getting off the floor after Fantasia nailed "Greatest Love Of All".. with the cordless in one hand and the cell in the other dialing 1-866-IDOLS02- 1-866-436-5702
|
I attempted to vote for Fantasia for just about the entire two hours but only got through two times.:( Maybe that was a good sign.
|
I couldn't get through to vote for Fantasia, so I don't know what's up with that.
SHE RIPPED IT LAST NIGHT! She better win! |
Why is it that certain other folks on GC are bashing Fantasia?? I mean DAYUM, why so much hate???

So glad justice prevailed and Jasmine was sent home....
Tamyra looking good-can't wait to get her cd. The Austrailian Idol...for those that missed the World Idol (all the Idol's from various countries competed against each other) he's the one that beat the American Idol (Kelly Clarkson)...she was totally surprised that he blew her out of the water...it was fun to see her get knocked down a peg...since TAMYRA should have won!!!:D I'm glad they added time although I don't think it will help. I couldn't get through but five times last night...more people that don't watch the show will watch the finals...I'm so sick of people trying to turn this into a black/white thing...Fantasia just happens to be the best singer to come through this contest...I'll give Diana props for improving (in leaps and bounds) over the last few weeks but it will truly come down to who's ready...and I think Diana needs a little more training..but her time will come. Fantasia took on Retha,Tina & Whitney last nite & ACED it ...she's more than ready to take her stand in the limelight! |
Two Black Winners Back to Back?
Could it be that American Idol will have two black people win back to back....? Who knows... hopefully. Go Fantasia!!
|
I doubt it.
Ummmmm, I think the Southern Belle/Georgia Peach will win. I hope she doesn't but you never can tell. |
Jasmine got told to kick rocks - YEAH!!!!!
I will be voting for Fantasia next week. :D :D |
HAs anyone ever noticed its always down to a white and black contestant?
Kelly/Justin Clay/Reuben Fantasia/Diana |
Go FANTASIA!!! I hope she wins.
|
My friend thinks that Diana is pregnant..Has anyone else noticed that her clothes hug her right at that spot or is it just him..I looked and looked last night (when I finally watched my tape) and didn't quite see what he was talking about..I did notice it on one show when she wore a dress..but I just don't think so..
