No, the A&F models weren't our bros. But indeed, I met a few of the guys who were cast as an extra in the film as one of the bros of Gamma Delta Tau (the name of the house in the movie) which still prominantely featuered our flag! I laugh everytime I see that now. These guys go back to like DD '67 and DD '68, so it is really funny to meet them. I believe he was the bro that asked Dustin Hoffman's character if he needed help or gave one of the ridiculous answers.

haunted house

One of the first few members of my chapter was killed in a car crash in the early 90's. Now its to be said that the room he was lived in in our house is haunted. Kinda scary considering my room is just down the hall. My fraternity brother who lives there says its cold alot, and he gets the chills so who knows whats going on there. Just thought I'd add that.

GreekGirl604 11-22-2004 08:21 PM

We have at least one ghost in our house...possibly two.

Peg is our house ghost. She mainly lives in our formal room. Last year we fixed the door to our china cabinet, which had been broken for quite a while. Afterwards, lots of strange little things started happening in the upper floor. Things like tvs shutting on an off, light flickering, etc. My rommate and I had 2 vcrs break in one week. Mine, which was one of the ones built directly into the tv, was working fine and we were watchign a movie. We turned the tv off to go eat dinner and when we came back, it wasn't working anymore. The tv, however, still worked fine. About halfway through the spring semester the door of the cabinet broke again, and mysteriously all the mischief stopped upstairs. It was a little joke among the sisters that Peg was mad that we fixed her cabinet and had moved up to the attic, then came back down after it broke again.

The story of Peg is usually told to the pledges at one of their meetings, mainly because it is sort of a house tradition. I forget the details, as it has been a while since I heard it, but the way the story goes is that Peg was a sister from another chapter who died in a car crash on the main road to the back of our house. We had an alumni (early 90's) visit us during recruitment this year and she found Peg's picture on one of our old composites!

Our other ghost is still a bit of a mystery though... My grandbig told me this story about when she was living in the house.

One night she and her roommate had a mutual friend sleep over on the futon and when they woke up the next day, she was gone. My grandbig's roommate told her that she had woken up during the night and turned over to see a little girl in a white dress standing near the doorway. She though that she was dreaming, so she just rolled over and went back to sleep. Later that day, my grandbig talked to the other girl and asked why she left so suddenly. The girl told her that she had woken up during the night to see a little girl in a white dress standing next to the futon, staring at her. She was so scared she just grabbed her stuff and left. The strange thing is she gave the exact same description of the little girl as the roommate had and neither one had spoken to the other yet! Lots of other weird things would happen in that room too. My grandbig told me they used to come home and find their paddles (which they usually hung on the wall over their desks) placed on their chairs...when the door had been locked. The had a lot of electrical problems too, radios would turn on and off and whatnot. Another weird thing is that my roommate from last year lived in that room the year before (the year after my grandbig) and she always had problems with the tv too. Sometimes the tv would be off and when she leaned against her bed, it would go on. When she stopped leaning, it would go off again. The remote was sitting on the desk, so we know it wasn't that. Also, she was the only one that this would happen to. I tried right after she did it, and it didn't do anything...

SJSU..

SJSU inhabited by spirits, some say

Students suspect ghosts in residence halls, sorority house

By Annelinda Aguayo
Daily Senior Staff Writer
October 31, 2003

According to members of Delta Gamma sorority, there is a ghost lurking in their house on Eighth and Reed streets.

Mindy Wynne, a senior majoring in creative arts, said the ghost of Lori Potter - a former sister - dwells in their home. Wynne said that Potter died in a fire at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house - then located at 99 S. 17th St. - in 1985.

"They say that she was at the top of the stairs and they were burning, but she was scared of heights and she wouldn't jump off of them," she said. "Since she died, strange things have been happening (in the house)."

Wynne said that all of the sisters are aware of Potter's presence in the house.

"We say she plays tricks on us," Wynne said. "We don't like to say our house is haunted because it scares us."

And Potter had played plenty of tricks on the sisters of Delta Gamma.

Michelle Eginoire, an undeclared freshman is the niece of a former sister - who was a friend of Potter's - now sleeps in the deceased's old room.

Eginoire said that Potter was known as a prankster throughout the house when she was a part of the sorority.

"One time I had an empty video box on a shelf and it started shaking all by itself," Eginoire said.

She said that the tricks that Potter plays do not scare her.

"She was my aunt's friend and I'm assuming she's looking out for me," Eginoire said. "But my roommate gets freaked out by it."

While some of Potter's tricks are considered funny, there have been some that have not been laughing matters.

Wynne said that she and her roommates shared two rooms connected by a bathroom, and one time when they were out of town, she had a frightening experience.

"It was about 11:30 at night and my roommates' radio was blasting," Wynne said. "I went to turn it off but it wasn't on, so I had to unplug it and then it stopped."

Sleep was the last thing on Wynne's mind after that.

"I didn't want to go to sleep," she said. "It was a trick but it wasn't funny."

Wynne said that a few days ago the sisters were sharing stories and one of them told of a rather terrifying experience.

"One girl saw a silhouette of someone in the kitchen in the middle of the night," Wynne said. "She said she was so scared she ran out."

Whether these stories are urban legends or not, some students believe that there are scary things at SJSU that go "bump" in the night.

** i cut out only the part about dg.. there is other stuff on there about the dorms**

http://www.thespartandaily.com/vnews...4?in_archive=1 (includes picture of Lori's closet)

I found out about Lori the first time my 'new member' sis and I slept in the town girl room. Our house mom had just left (locked the door to her room) and boom her door opened.. freaked us out but the actives explained it was normal. Every once and a while last semester we'd hear the radio in kitchen get REALLY loud when our cook and no one else was in there.. Lori's cool for the most part. :) I have no complaints about her.

AlphaXi331 11-23-2004 05:10 PM

Well, our house used to be a morgue, and a lotta the alumni claim when they lived in that they saw and heard some pretty weird things. I'm living in this year, though, and I haven't seen anything. It's still pretty creepy though

emleepc 11-24-2004 01:04 PM

I've got a few UNA stories!!!(there are many more, just ask!!!)

Florence - University of North Alabama area - Guillot University Center - Before it was built, a dorm for girls stood in it's place. It existed while what is now UNA was Florence State Teacher's College. In the early 1900's, a student at the college who lived in the dorms was said to have a secret that stressed her out so very much that she hung herself from the elevator shaft in the tower of the building. No one knew what her secret was or why she felt she had to kill herself. Later, security guards in the building would hear noises that sounded like a swaying body hanging from a rope. Now the Guillot Center stands in its place and noises are still heard on it's second floor. There have been security guards in the building at night that have heard and seen crazy things!

Florence - University of North Alabama area - Norton Auditorium - is haunted by a ghost named George who was a construction worker helping build the auditorium some time ago. He fell from a scaffold to his death. He has been heard walking on the catwalk and various other things.

Florence - University of North Alabama area - Off Campus Bookstore - In the late 30's or early 40's, a young girl named Molly lived in the building with her parents. For her 11th birthday, her parents bought her a puppy. Soon, her puppy contracted rabies and bit her hand. Within a week, she died. Her ghost has been seen many times in the upstairs window, looking down. This house/bookstore used to be the Kappa Sigma house, and Molly was seen there by some of the brothers. Now they have a house a few streets away, and Molly moved with them----she goes back and forth from the bookstore to the Kappa Sig's house! Also, the people that work in the bookstore say the 2nd floor, used for storage, always cold. They can't get any heat to stay up there.

Florence - University of North Alabama area - Weslyan - is haunted by a civil war general's son who drowned when he jumped head first into Cypress Creek from the old one lane bridge on Waterloo Road a couple minutes from campus. His wet footsteps can be seen at night. One Florence resident wrote a book about strange things in the quad cities, and used this story----she actually did an interview with the General himself!!! Crazy, I know!!

Tuscumbia - Bellemont Mansion - Antebellum house. Sits on old plantation. There have many sightings of the spirits of the slaves. It is a tourist attraction now and the shackles still remain on the cellar walls.

Lauderdale - Elgin - Jazz Man - The story goes that a jazz musician was walking across the Second Creek Bridge when a car struck him. He walks up and down the bridge, still wearing his white Zoot suit, looking for a ride to Florence. If you stop to pick him up, he says something about his trumpet and disappears.

Hartselle - Cry Baby Holler - People claim that a woman was driving over this narrow bridge and wrecked. She lived, but the baby in her car died. Now when you drive over that bridge at night. Stop and sit there, until you hear a baby cry. Leave candy on the bridge. Come back a couple of minutes later...a piece of the candy is gone. I've done this one(not the candy part) to see if I could hear the baby cry-----it's creepy anyway cause it's in the middle of nowhere!

Florence - Sweetwater Plantation - Music is played occasionally on an old piano that sits in the parlor where guests were entertained by a former Governor back in the late 1800's. The caretaker recalls a light being turned on at night on the second floor and faucets being turned on at night when she is trying to sleep.

Florence - Ghost Bridge - Supposedly a run-away slave was hung from the bridge during the civil war. There have been many sightings there. I've been here too, and there are many stories that float around about this one. The true story is not as scary as the others, unfortunately.....Some say, the phrase "Hang 'em high, or Hang 'em low" came from this story, depending on if the soldiers were hung underneath the bridge or above it---they say the soldiers that fought in the civil war were hung from this bridge, supposedly a general of the opposing side was hung underneath......not the true story though.....

ETA: More Stories!!!!

FAUNikki 11-24-2004 02:33 PM

if anyone is interested in researching ny of these things, here is a site: http://theshadowlands.net/places/

it lists all states and goes by city, i actually found something at my school there, kinda scary! But rhoughout the country there are quite a few fraternity/sorority related things.

UKDaisy 11-24-2004 03:28 PM

Okay, this is totally OT. But I found on that site a story about a lil' girl that me and my ex bf in high school actually researched and covered for a school newspaper story. Okay, this is a really long post - but bare with me - good story!

The website said this: Greenup - There is a house where a little girl was supposedly murdered by her parents or housemaid around 1946. She was beaten regularly everyday until she finally died from the harsh, cruel things done to her. She was about 5 years old when she died. It is said that the house still has toys in the yard, and there are many pairs of children's shoes lined up against the wall, and there are tons of books on manners placed on the table along with dinner plates. There are footsteps that sound like someone is coming downstairs, and it feels like you are being watched. There is even an occasional loud banging upstairs.

Okay.... Her name was Mary Magdeline. *go figure*. Anyway, her parents *if thats what you want to call them* were actually her aunt and uncle. They did do horrible things do this lil' girl. The neighbors reported that they had caught the man dunking her head under water and beating her in the front lawn was common. The neighbor that finally gathered enough evidence together took it to the police, but with the war and it being in the boonies back then... the police just did a bunch of warning to the foster parents.

Finally, one day the neighbor was walking and saw Mary's body hanging from a tree. The aunt and uncle had gotten mad at this four year old girl and drunk so they hung her after beating her.

THere are actually pictures of her body hanging from the tree and the mourners of Greenup county coming to see her.
The house has been torn down - but too my knowledge there isn't anything in its place...its just kinda rundown weeds and such.

However, if you want to pay tribute to Mary - which actually, lots of Greenup-Ironton folks do. You can go to her gravesite. The gravesite was paid by the citizens of Greenup, and is in the shape of an angel. Lots of folks bring toys and such to her gravesite, when I went there were even letters.

The story is sooo sad - I guess it really just still touches people. Especially researching it and seeing the pictures and such.

One of the ghost stories however that is the creepiest - a truck driver was driving along the highway near her house stopped immediately as he said a child ran in front of his truck. He stopped and caught out and a lil' girl was saying "help me, dont' let him hurt me". The man reported that it was hard to hear b/c the girl obviously had no teeth * Mary's teeth was knocked out by the Uncle *. Then the lil' girl took off running. The man called the police and reported what had happened. The police found nothing.

Those stories are very common. And in case your wondering my ex and I could not find any news on Mary's Aunt and Uncle. Apparently, they were shipped off somewhere and thats where their story becomes unknown.

:(

Tuscaloosa - Gamma Phi Beta Sorority House - The name or origin of the ghost is not known for sure, but the legend has it that before sorority row was built that there was a home for children on that site. It is said that a small boy by the name of Adam was accidentally scalded to death in a bathtub. There have been numerous incidents of faucets cutting on and off without explanation as well as doors slamming down the hall of house. The spirit is more noticeable at around 8 in the evening when not many people are present in the house. Several have reported having a "creeped out feeling" then to see faucets or TV's turn on without explanation.

theshadowlands.net/places/alabama.htm

Technically about two sororities at once since Gamma Phi Beta leases their house at UA from Alpha Xi Delta's Tuscaloosa Housing Corp.

Haunted Greek Houses on OSU's campus

I know we have a lot of Columbus GC'rs, so any truth to these?

Columbus - Alpha Omicron Pi House - Legend has it that years ago, when the house was owned by another sorority, a sister jumped into Mirror Lake as an Ohio State tradition for Michigan Weekend. She was intoxicated and broke her neck. Her sisters took her back to the sorority house and placed her in her bed, afraid they would get in trouble for being drunk if they took her to the hospital. She died in the room and is said to open the closet doors and move things in the room. In other rooms, girls have said that they have heard the sound of bed springs, but no one will be sitting or laying on the bed. Her name is believe to be Mary-Ellen.

Columbus - Ohio State University - Alpha Delta Pi Sorority - According to some girls in that house, a girl in another sorority got sick and died in the house years ago. Since then the ADPi sorority moved into the house and the hauntings began. The girls claim to see a girl walking down hallways, looking out windows, and looking back at them in reflections in the mirrors. Visitors to the house claim to have seen chandeliers mysteriously moving and have heard strange sounds.

ZetaPhi708 02-07-2005 03:37 AM

got a scary story

At the chapter, there is a coat of arms of LCA that is basically a braile (sic) version for a blind pledge that went thru in the 1950s or 60s. There is one room of the house that it stays in all the time ( a brother's room ). It is said that whomever takes that COA out of the room, something bad happens...Allegedly the blind brother lived in that room until he moved out due to health reasons. He passed away not long after he moved out.

When I was living there, a brother took the COA to his room...the next day he had a wreck and totaled his car....He was fine..but when he got back to the house he put the COA back in the room very very quickly....

Brothers have also heard footsteps upstairs in the middle of the night. The upstairs is a securely locked chapter room.....Kinda spooky to hear footsteps where there are not supposed to be any at that time of night....

The AOII house is still owned by another sorority (we rent it from them.) I've been told about the ghost, but haven't witnessed her myself. If she is still around, she's well behaved :)

FIJI now lives in the former ADPi house and OSU owns the house. Couldn't tell you one thing about the existence or non-existence of a spiritual being over there, though.

Our house

You have most of that right. There is a room called "engagement," and usually, one girl out of the 3 (or 4) that live in that room each year gets engaged. However, the story goes that Susie hung herself in the attic after her fiance left her at the alter. Problems with the story: no one named Susie ever lived in the house...so there really isn't a ghost in our house.

flirt5721 07-16-2005 07:53 PM

Not much as happened at my campus except for the Robbery Suspect that was attempting to rob a Wells Fargo nearby was shot at the Delta Chi's House this past year.

As for our house, not much, just that it used to be a fraternity house and they had a bar where our chapter room is now.

ejbiff 07-16-2005 08:35 PM

I saw a posting near the beginning about my chapter's house. I am a Tri Sigma at Eastern Michigan University and our house is haunted by a boy named Henry. As it was mentioned before, he died in the house, but I've heard various reasons. Our house has a round room in the top of a turret in the 3rd floor. I've heard that Henry was locked in this windowless room and died in there from starvation. Whenever you're in the house alone, you can hear someone walking around on the upper floors. Henry has broken a couple of girls items that are hanging on walls and well as turning things on and off. I also heard once that our house, which is from the 1800s, was once a funeral home...Creepy enough for me.

Mississippi University for Womens Haunting!

"Columbus - Mississippi University for Women - Calloway Hall - The ghost of Mary can be seen in the top floor window looking for her lost love. Sometimes she visits the freshman girls at night and sits on the edge of their beds to weep."

The legend of Calloway Hall was that it was turned into a hopsital for hurt soliders during one of the wars. Anyway a RN named Mary worked there and fell in love with one of the hurt soliders while careing for him.
The legend is he was shipped somewhere else without her knowledge & she grieved herself to the point where she went up to the top floor to the clock tower & killed herself.
I went to school there Fall of 2003, I didnt live in Calloway Hall but one of my Highlander pledge sisters did & some really weird things happened while I visited her room a few times. The first thing that ever happened to us together was we was on our way to pick up somethings from her room for a retreat & it appeared someone was laying in her bed! The tvs & radios would go on and off, you could hear footsteps above her room which was the top floor.
The elevators were fixed to where NOBODY could go to the top floor. It was also stated to all students not to even try to attempt to go up there. It was pretty freaky & I never went there by myself especially at night!! It got so bad that my pledge sister eventually moved into my room in Kincannon Hall! Every Octoberfest Calloway Hall is turned into a Haunted House & people go through the bottom floors. Its pretty creepy!

It was SO long ago

I remember because I was in Kindergarten when it happened. My K5 teacher moved to Gainsville after graduation and I missed her so much. I was afraid because I thought someone would kill her too! I hope Mrs. Gerard is okay! Even though I'm pretty sure she stuck to K5 and NOT college level courses!

Wasn't there a haunted house thread on GC at one time? That thread gave me goosebumps but I couldn't help but read it.

alisonnisswaFSU 07-19-2005 10:53 PM

Interesting fact: My sorority house was originally the Old City Cemetery keeper's home in Tallahassee. Our house is on the corner of Macomb and Park and on the diagonal corner is where the cemetery is. Its the oldest in the city with many graves dating to the early 1800s. Our house is listed in the National Historic Registry and the original part was built in the late 1800s. Sigma Kappa first started occupying the house in 1920 with an addition added in the late 40s early 50s as I recall. Anyway the "interesting" part is there is a passage in the basement of the original house section that leads under the intersection which was always a busy thoroughfare, into the cemetery. The "old house" basement is still original to the house and was never finished, it is much more similar to what we would call a cellar. Under the "new wing" a separate basement was added that is now our study hall and art space. The passage has long been blocked off but is still very visible (not hidden or kept a secret) to anyone that goes down there. The story I was told by some of our really old alumni at reunion was that during the 40s/50s there was a secret society for sorority seniors called the Village Vamps (not specific to Sigma Kappa) and that they apparently used the tunnel which opened into a false grave somewhere in the cemetery. Supposedly something happened to one of the girls and either FSU or the sororities cracked down on the Vamps and they disbanded/went underground. That was also when they blocked the cemetery passage. In our archives we still have a lot of old pics and letters pertaining to the VV. I have no idea if the false grave still exists and the cemetery is quite big. I would think that would have been closed of too when they closed the tunnel but who knows.

more spooky stuff

*bumb w/ 2 stories*

I read this a few months back but I cant remember what shool. Anyway, back in the day wen hazing was still prevalent, a chapter of Theta Xi was paddling a new member/new initiate named Duncan and accidently hit him in the head. He died. They put Duncan's paddle in the library to remember him and to remind the brothers of the negative affects of hazing so nothing like this could ever happen again. Well they moved out a few years later and the Phi Gamma Deltas moved in. there were silhouttes on the walls of all the composities and paddles that the theta xi's took with them, so thy painted over them all, but the image of Duncan's padde did not disappear. They apparently have painted over it and wallpapered it several times but the spot where the paddle once was would not go away or fade. I'v heard that they tried to hang photos there and the shadow of the paddle reflects in the glass. Eventually they had to hang a paddle up that was the same size as Duncan's so that it wouldnt be noticable, but supposdly there's a faint image of the greek letters "theta xi" on that paddle. The FIJIs have reported footsteps and moaning in the basement chapter room (where Duncan took his fatal hit) and the library door opening and slamming closed along with books falling off the shelves and brother's items disappearing and being found in the library.

Another story happened to me.
We have suites in the womens' dorm. Last year a disaffliated AOII committed suicide in her room in those dorms. She apparently disaffiliated for finacial reasons and was still very close to her sisters. About 3-4 months later I was up in our suite which is right above the AOII suite watching a show on the campus network which I cant get off campus. I was up there alone and I after I had been there for about 45 minutes I felt like someone had came in and was behind me but b/c our lock is one of those key pads, i would have heard someone unlock it and come in. Our ritual closet which is always locked opened a few inches and then shut really fast like whomever it was knew they werent supposed to be in there. Then it felt like whomever it was left. I think it was the recently decest AOII looking for her suite and got lost. Once she realized she was in the wrong place she left.

Sigma Kappa at Washington State University has the most rediculous ghost story ever - so of course, it's really fun to tell.

The story goes, that "back in the day," which usually is alluded to be the 1920s (at the very least, before we moved into our current house, which was 1935).

Anyway, at that time, there was a very pretty girl in our house named Aura. She was dating a boy from Sigma Nu, whose name no one remembers (we'll call him James). James had a roommate, also a Sigma Nu, and the roommate (here called Sam) was absolutely in love with Aura.

One night, James and Aura were out on a date, and were headed back to the Sigma Nu house. Now, being a gentleman, James decided to open the door for Aura and allow her into the doorway first.

That night, Sam was waiting on the stairs for James and Aura to return. His plan was to shoot and kill James, thereby winning Aura for himself. He, however, had not planned on Aura coming in first, and fired at the first person who walked in the door. Aura was fatally shot. As she lay on the floor dying, the Sigma Nu brothers came to investigate the noise.

At this point, James pulled out a gun and shot Sam, killing him instantly.

Not sure what to do, the Sigma Nu brothers picked up Aura, who was still barely alive, and carried her back to the Sigma Kappa house. When they got there and went inside, the brothers called for the sisters to come downstairs to see Aura. No one ever showed up, and to this day no one knows why. Maybe they didn't hear the guys, or maybe they were out that night. Either way, the men of Sigma Nu became so panicked that they set Aura down at the foot of the stairs and left.

Aura died alone. Because of this, if you stand on the landing and look over the railing to the first floor (we have a spiral staircase), and you are alone on the first floor and landing, you might feel someone touch your back. This is Aura, and it's her way of letting you know that because you are a sister of Sigma Kappa, you will never truely be alone.

Of course, we're not supposed to talk about Aura anymore because its "hazing" ever since some sisters changed the endings to say that the feeling on your back is Aura trying to push you over the railing to kill you.

Oh give me a break! Telling ghost stories is considered "hazing" now?

The story goes, that "back in the day," which usually is alluded to be the 1920s (at the very least, before we moved into our current house, which was 1935).

i just think it's cool that your chapter has been in the same house for 75 years.

Kappa Alpha Theta at Ohio State University has a ghost. Her name is Faye. The story gets passed down to the newest girls during their Initiation Week from the seniors. It says that Faye and her twin sister (name unknown to us) rushed together sometime in the 1970's, just when we added a new wing on the house. Faye was given a bid to Theta and accepted. Her twin sister, did not recieve one from the chapter. The girls' relationship slowly started to suffer because of Faye's twin's jealousy. The next year, when Faye moved into the house, she invited her sister over to hang out and be a "non-official Theta." Well, the girls started fighting and pushed each other, pulled hair, etc. Faye was pushed and apparently fell out the window. We have a cement patio, where she of course landed and died.

Now, she haunts our home. Faye will hold you down in your sleep if you sleep next to a window, to assure that you won't fall out, we guess. She's a nice ghost that protects us because she loves her Theta sisters. But she'll tap on the ritual closet wall. One of my close friend's curling iron, straightner, hair dryer, and every other electrical device she owned was piled in the center of her floor one morning when she woke up. And supposedly if you walk down one of our hallways at night, where there is a mirror at the end of it, you can see her...I don't know about that one because I refuse to do it. LoL.

Just to add, Faye was spotted in a Composite in our basement but mysteriously disappeared! Did Faye keep it for herself? Or did a Frat Boy steal it as a trophy? The world may never know...

At Minnesota, we have lots of old houses (Fraternity & Sorority). Our chapter house is large for our campus (houses about 40 women) because it is actually two houses put together. Our sorority has had our current house for about the last hundred years. Unlike some other chapters, I am fairly sure we have never had a house at a different campus location. For a while, the house next door was Delta Upsilon. At some point (maybe around the 1950's?) a fire nearly destroyed the DU house. The fraternity ended up relocating and we bought their house so we could expand into it. Most people say that there were brothers, and possibly a girlfriend, that died on the third floor of the DU house. This is often taken for fact, but I'm not really sure. It would, however, make sense as to why the fraternity would choose to move, and not rebuild the house.
We have all the regular "ghost" behavior: lights and other electrical appliances- computers, cd players, radios- making strange noises, turning on and off erratically, doors and windows opening and closing on their own, etc. I believe in ghosts, but most of this I still attribute to the fact that we have 2 old houses, now wired together. I put much more weight on stories where people say they have seen/felt ghosts. This is the best story I've heard, and it was from someone I knew, so I actually heard her tell me about it...
It was the morning of the homecoming parade and I'm pretty sure my sister was a New Member at the time. All the New Members walk in the Homecoming parade, and the rest of the house gathers at the paired fraternity to show support and spirit and do cheers in front of the Housefront. My sister was feeling really sick, so someone from her pledge class was nice enough to bring her back to the house and put her to sleep in the townie room, before continuing down the parade route with the other New Members. This means everyone in my house should have either been in the parade or at the fraternity. But my sister is SURE that someone was in the townie room with her. In fact, later at mock awards she wanted to "say thank you to whoever it was stayed with me on Homecoming when I was feeling so sick" and everyone replied that no, no one else had been in the house. But my sister is sure that someone was sitting next to her on the bed, and kind of petting her forehead/hair.
spooky!

"SMOOTS", measuring in Boston!:)

A Bridge in Boston was laid out in "Smoots" not inches or feet!:)

A Pledge at the time was used to measure how far across a bridge it was! It was painted each year by the then "Pledge Class".

The Bridge was destroyed and replaced with a new one. It was decided that "Smoots" would be measured once again and this time it was done in the decking in concrete. Still painted though!:D

Not Greek related, but...In Tempe, Ariz., there's a haunted restaurant called Casy Moore's. It used to be a private residence, later a boarding house. I did a story on it for one of my journalism classes and the employees told me all about flying dishes, the ghost in the women's restroom, etc. A month later our school paper published a story very similar to mine, except there was a quote about how Casey Moore's would never try to get rid of the ghosts. The bartender had told me that they tried to set them free with a ceremony, but one of the ghosts got stuck in a tree and haunts it now. (The big tree in the front by the sidewalk, for anyone at ASU.)

I thought this was just freaky - The year after I moved out of my dorm, a girl fell from the thrid floor because she was sitting on the protective railing and lost her balance. It was scary to me because one of my closest friends used to perch herself on the railings and I always told her to get down because I was afraid she'd fall. She'd just say, "That would never happen!" There were never any updates on the girl in the media (at least that I knew of) so I think ASU was trying to keep it quiet. I know she survived the fall, but I don't know if she got better.
