Here you go sweetheart.

*71% of those listed in "Who's Who in America" belong to a fraternity.
*Of the nation's 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by fraternity men.
*85% of the Fortune 500 executives belong to a fraternity.
*40 of 47 U.S. Supreme Court Justices since 1910 were fraternity men.
*76% of all Congressmen and Senators belong to a fraternity.
*Every U.S. President and Vice President, except two in each office, born since the first social fraternity was founded in 1825 have been members of a fraternity.
*63% of the U.S. President's Cabinet members since 1900 have been Greek.

I am extremely proud to be apart of a greek system that successfully trains American youth to become leaders in our society and government.

While many, many people in government have been/are Greek, I would be very careful before quoting these statistics, which are largely Greek urban legend. The "Every U.S. President and Vice President, except two in each office, born since the first social fraternity was founded in 1825 have been members of a fraternity" has been gone over on this board many times -- misleading at best and wrong at worst. Check out the thread: Nifty Fun Fact.

As for "76% of all Congressmen and Senators belong to a fraternity," remember that the make-up of Congress changes every two years, so unless you are sure that a statistic like this is very current, I wouldn't quote it.

Not sure on this one

I heard a long time ago that Bridgette Wilson-Sampras (she was the teacher in Billy Madison, and she's been in some other movies, too) is a Gamma Phi Beta and that Kirstie Alley pledged Gamma Phi Beta also. Anyone know if that's true? It isn't mentioned at all on the GPhiB website?

jess_pom 12-10-2002 08:09 PM

The president of my university (Clarion) reportedly is a Gamma Phi Beta!

dnll7272 12-11-2002 01:02 AM

actually...

thankyou pm_mama...Alpha Delta Pi was the first established sorority in May of 1851. and it has beed said that ADPi helped founded Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

SATX*APhi 07-16-2003 09:35 PM

I didn't know where I should post this, but oh well.

A friend of mine is dating a guy who is from the same Lambda Chi chapter that Kenny Chesney is from. A bigger wow is that Kenny Chesney was his new member educator! The guy my friend is dating still stays in contact with Kenny. I can't wait for my friend's wedding!! KENNY CHESNEY WILL BE THERE! :D woo hoo!!

DeltAlum 07-16-2003 11:59 PM

According to Pirate00, Reuben Askew, former governor of Florida is an APO.

According to the Delt webpage (www.delts.org), he is a Delt.

Since I don't know him, I don't know which is true.

Senusret I 07-17-2003 12:10 AM

DeltAlum, both are probably true.

Ambassador Maura Harty is a prominent female Brother of APO.

hottytoddy 07-17-2003 04:59 AM

OK I think this is really cool...

Jackie O pledged Phi Mu but is not an alum she dropped out.

Gen George Patton and Edgar Hoover were KA's

Robert Redford, Ted Turner, and music newcomer Josh Kelley were all Kappa Sigs.

Paul Newman was a Phi Kappa Tau

Paul Bear Bryant, Archie Manning (and Eli), Sen. Trent Lott and Pat Riley were all Sigma Nu's.

John Goodman was a Sig Ep

these are just a couple that I didn't see mentioned.

Firehouse 07-17-2003 08:01 AM

Jon Stewart / DeltAlum

DeltAlum: you are correct about former Governor Rubin Askew. One of the most respected political figures in Florida history was student body president at FSU and a member of Delta Tau Delta. The current IFC president is also a Delt.
Responding to an earler mention of Jon Stewart: he was a Pike at William & mary, initiated 1981. Other Pike alumni include newsman Ted Koppel (Syracuse '59) and singer Tim McGraw (Northeast Louisiana '86), plus a number of actors and politicians.
One story: Bobby Bowden was Pike president at Samford University when he was an undergraduate. He was present at his son Jeff's initiation at Florida State in 1981. Now, Jeff is Coach Bowden's offensive coordinator, and Coach's grandson, Robert Hines, is the quarterback at Tennessee-martin where he is also a Pike.

My sister catered Steve "Air" McNair's wedding reception a few years ago. Both he and his wife are Greeks, but I don't remember which ones. Delta Sigma Theta comes to mind for his wife, but it has been too long ago for me to be sure.

he's a que.

blue_n_orange 08-05-2003 06:30 AM

This is a long AND old thread, but I'm posting this anyways.

Famous Kappas:
Kate Spade
Ashley Judd
Jane Pauley
Nancy O'Dell
Candice Bergen
Mrs. Campbell (fleur-de-lis on the soup cans!)
Kate Jackson

There are many more, but it's late (or early). Also, someone said before (way before) that Will Ferrell was a Delta Tau Delta. He isn't. He's a TKE. He wears a TKE jersey many times while playing a frat boy on SNL and he gave a tour of a TKE frat house on an Mtv special for "Old School."

And I'm pretty sure the KKG pin has never been to the moon. If the pin-on-the-moon claim (Tri-Delt's pin) is a rumor, there are a heck of a lot of people still spreading them (it's in the UF recruitment guides all the time).

The newly elected governor of Mississippi, Haley Barbour, was an SAE...his wife Marsha was a KD.

DaffyKD 12-16-2003 01:54 PM

Since the original poster asked who we thought was in our GLO but turns out they weren't I will have to add that I was always told that Pat Nixon (President Nixon's wife) was a Kappa Delta. I was at national convention the year she died and when they did the memorial service for those who had died since the last convention I was really shocked to not hear Pat mentioned. Found out that was just a rumor. Not sure if only our chapter knew of the rumor or if it was a national rumor at the time.

I'm sure that he still is an SAE and that his wife is still a KD, unless they either resigned or were expelled.
