The one on my leg faded right away. I was POed. I went back to have it redone. They still did a crappy job. Didn't fix it at all. I have to go somewhere else to get it touched up. Yet again! |
I'm planing to go for my second tattoo tomorrow, but I'm having trouble finding the character I want. I want the chinese character of "to run", but can't find an image anywhere.
Anyone know a good website to find characters? |
1) Be careful.
2) Be careful. That's with reference to flash art (i.e. the stuff on the walls that you point to and say I'll take that one). If you don't know what it really says then chances are the tattoo artist doesn't either. I heard one story about someone who understood Japanese saw a list of japanese characters (might've been kanji) each meaning different things. One of them read "I'm so stupid I don't know what this means" - although obviously the notice said it was something different! :) Apparently the tattoo artist said to the person he had already given that one to a bunch of people. I do know a site where you can get some words translated for free by professional translators (so not altavista translate heh). I'll try and dig it out for you if you wish? Naturally we'd want to see pictures later. Another option is going to say a chinese restaurant but you'd have to trust them! That option works better if you already have the design and want to double check it says what you think it does; that would be the safest way if you insisted on looking at a website that had lists of the characters. |

to run Oooohh!! What site?? share please:) I'll even post pics of my first tattoo if I can make sure my new one doesn't say something dirty |
http://www.proz.com/?sp=k2
The good thing about it is you can explain the context in which you mean it, so the translators take that into account. Stops mistakes 'to run a business' versus 'to run a race' type thing. :) eta: If I can be bothered (it'll be quite a bit of work) I can find the saved HTML file and upload it to a webserver (as I won't be able to find it on their site anymore, too long ago) of a question I asked a few years ago re a word for a tattoo - to give you an idea of what can be expected as a response. eta2: Here you are. :-) http://tinyurl.com/36cl3 (don't quote) |
DolphinChica, are you currently still at school and, if so, does your school have a Chinese Languages department? Maybe you could talk to a professor or a TA and they could help you.

I have 2 butterflies on my lower back. I also have a belly ring and I used to have my tongue pierced in college but took it out because it didn't seem professional anymore, especially in my field (social work) when my male clients were like "why is your tongue pierced" with a smile.

*bump*
I'm thinking about getting something like this: http://a1259.g.akamai.net/f/1259/558...0/10078888.jpg |
Since I allready have a multitude of piercings (including my lobes stretched nice and big to 4 ga. ...translation, you can read things through my earlobes), I'm ready for ink. These are the plans
1) Either a keystone (i have a drawing/idea of what I want) or the outline of PA with a heart where Pittsburgh is 2) on my upper back, I want a sacred heart with a phoenix coming out of the flames and writing above/below with Psalm 51:10 written out (See signature!). The sacred heart will be a copy of a holy card that belonged to my grandmother, and the phoenix will represent my rising above issues in my life, and the quote is a homage to straightedge (still thinking of working three X's in there for straightedge, perhaps in the thorns on the heart) . |

I like tattoos. I always have. I have one. I don't care to have them all over my body, but I want to and plan to add on to the one I already have since it is sort of small.
As far as tattoos that are sorority related, I see nothing wrong with it. I have some sisters with our tattoos of our letters or of lions. I think they're fine as long as they are put in appropriate places. |
I love my tattoo: it's a small green and yellow butterfly on my lower back. I designed it, and the artist who did it was phenomenal! :) It's only faded a little bit, and I've had it for a year and a half now.
I've considered getting another one, but I don't know where I would put it. ~ShyViolet |
I have my badge on left calf, want the OM symbol on that ankle, or the OM MANI PADME HUM written as a band around that ankle and put a zen symbol on my other one. Also, will get the Dharma Wheel or 8 Fold Path symbol on my left bicep, so that that when i move my arm up and down, it will move, but keep the same shape, and look like it did before, no matter which angle my arm is at.

I completely forgot I was supposed to post pics of my newer tattoo!!!
If anyone is still interested: My Second Tattoo Its not terribly exciting, just on my foot. Don't mind the ugly runner feet (complete with surgery scars and blisters) just be happy I didn't have a black tonail that day. My first one is a celtic cross. Not terribly exciting, but its in an area which is hard to photograph (its right below my pelvic bone, on the uppermost part of my thigh.) Maybe one day during the summer I'll get someone to take a pic. Right now, I'm a bit too pale:p |
i personally would never get a tatoo with my letters or anything that relates to my sorority because frankly, and people can get mad at me, im not too happy with my chapter right now and i dont consider it great. but thats a different story for another time that has nothing to do with anything in this thread.
anyways, i have a sister that got letters tatooed on her back and she regrets it. the brothers of zbt on my campus, got tatoos honoring their brother that had sadly passed away last may. it has their letters and his jersey #. see with that it kicks ass bc that shows true brotherhood. im sorry if i didnt make any sense or i sounded bitchy in any sort of way, but im really sick with the flu and i have a fever right now so dont mind me lol |
I think it is a big mistake. They are kind of hot when you're young, but not when you are older. Have you seen the SNL skit where they make fun of women who have tattoos on their lower back?
|
I have 3 tattoos and I LUV them. The first one I got when I was 17 (at a place on the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ ::shudder::) and it's kinda blue vines with pink flowers on my lower back. That's the one everyone has said they like best. The second one I got done at school as kinda spur of the moment. My roommate and I skipped class one really nice Friday and just decided to get tattoo'd. I have 3 shooting stars on my left hip in purple, pink, and blue. And my most recent one is a little ivy leaf on the inside on my right ankle. It's a symbol for Alpha Phi and about 30 of us got them.
I think tattoos are seriously addicting. My big thing is that I don't want to get them where they're visible in a wedding dress. :D |

i try to tell my friends when they think of gettin tatoos to not put them near their lower back or stomache bc if they had a kid, the thing would stretch out like whoa

I have a tattoo of a half-moon w/ clouds and stars...on my lower back of course. :D It was my 20th birthday gift to myself. It definitely hurt worse than getting my tongue pierced while it was being done (I threw up while I was having my tattoo done); however, the aftermath of the tattoo was nothing compared to my tongue piercing. I miss my tonge ring. :(
Now that I've had my tattoo for 5 1/2 years, I think it's time to have it touched up. The colors faded from where I never covered it up when I laid in the tanning bed. Getting a tatoo is such an awesome experience. Five minutes after I finished I was ready for another. I think I might eventually get one more, on my hip, of the Gemini symbol. Someday. :) |
I really want to get another tattoo, I'm thinking a palm tree cuz I wanna live somewhere WARM when I graduate. But I'm running out of places and I don't want it to look trashy. I've already got tattoos on my lower back, ankle, and hip, where else can a girl get them so they're cute and not junky??
|
don't remember if I have posted on this thread or not...
When I first joined SDT, I originally wanted to get my letters tattooed on my ankle, but after thinking about it, I decided that getting my sorority flower would be a better decision. I have a bumble bee on my ankle so I could tie it in to my current tattoo. I think one of my sisters and I are going to go and get flowers together, but we haven't talked about it for a while, so that plan may be out the window... |

Finally...1 of my tattoos!
I finally have a picture of 1 of my tattoos. I have 4
here is it. http://www.msnusers.com/t36sonjvc3nq...%2FPicture.jpg |
Depending on where you get it, it's not NEARLY as bad as you might think. Mine just felt like a scrape. I hate needles, too...

I just got my first tattoo. 4 of us got the same one, a diamond with a pi in it on our inside heel. I didn't think it hurt at all.

i just got a new one... it's not actually that new. but it's the baby of the bunch. number five. got it in miami last year. it's the japanese symbols for spring and winter side by side on the inside of my wrist.
my wide-band watch covers it up pretty much so i don't have to worry about my coworkers seeing it. i got it to remind me that after the winter blues, come the spring sun and warmth... literally and figuratively. i love tattoos. |
does anyone here have a tatto on the bottom lip area? i saw these two people on mtv's parental control get matching tattoos done in that area. it does not seem to hurt as much as if it would on regular skin. i want one, but i hate needles.

It didn't even hurt that bad :)
I just got a tattoo two weeks ago it says faith hope love and there are symbols of a cross anchor and heart inbetween the words. It means a lot to me and I think it turned out perfect! :)
|
Oh what the heck, I'll jump in. I've got a tattoo on the back of my right shoulder of a heart and cross and also one of my nicknames. It's kind of a pain now because when I got it, it turned out bigger than I expected, but never thought it'd be a problem. But when I won homecoming queen, I had to cover it for the pageant and in spaghetti straps, that was really hard (you can't see it when I'm wearing a regular tank top). But I wouldn't trade it for the world, it's worth it!:)
|
Wow, this thread brings back memories.
I've had the tattoo bug lately, big time. I want to add to the tattoo on my arm and get something else, probably on my shoulder (I gave up the lower back idea a while ago). |
I got a quatrefoil on the back of my neck about a month ago. I love it! It didn't hurt at all, and it's very pretty (I have shoulder length hair, so I can cover it up too). I want another one...
|
I know that most of you are women up here talking about tattoos, but I must admit that I have been wanting to get a Fraternity related tattoo as of late. Alot of Lambda Chi's usually go with the Cross & Crescent, but I have happened upon a few ideas that I think wouldn't be so bad.
This one I was thinking of putting on my right shoulder in a smaller version (obviously changing the chapter designation and number) http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...005/tatoo2.jpg Or something more similar to this or the classic Cross & Crescent on the left shoulder. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...2005/cross.jpg This one I am having a hard time deciding if I want in color or not.,,,,,may go try out with airbrush first to see how it looks before committing on this one. Anyway let me know what you think |
Oh also meant to add that I'm part Irish (McGovern) so I liked the Celtic Cross from the beginning
