Always a good thread!

ComradesTrue 06-29-2015 10:21 PM

My understanding is that Phi Mu will colonize at TCU in Fall of 2016, bringing the total number of sororities to 13. There had been some discussion at one point about them coming on this fall, but the campus panhellenic wants to give the most recent sorority one more year before a new group arrives.

The day after Phi Mu colonizes we will be on watch for when the campus opens again. It will take several more chapters to get quota to a number appropriate for that campus. Last year there were 1000 PNMs for a campus with only ~1800 freshmen. Quota was in the high 60s.

After Phi Mu colonizes my money will be on one of our 3 closed chapters returning: KD, APhi or AGD. Hopefully all 3 can eventually make it back, however we would be honored to have any group join our Greek system.

Hope So

I want to share my dear Phi Mu and see more groups come on campus.

2. University of Arizona 12 NPCs, Total 220, 2013 Quota 94. Yes, Alpha Chi Omega just recolonized, but let's be honest, that's a drop in the bucket.
3. University of Arkansas 10 NPCs, 2013 Quota 130. Despite 2 recent colonizations, this school needs more than 10 NPCs.
4. Louisiana State University 11 NPCs, 2013 Quota 99. Alpha Phi's current recolonization won't do enough to diminish the need for further expansion.
5. University of North Florida 5 NPCs, 2013 Quota 74
6. University of Oklahoma 11 NPCs, Total 263, 2013 Quota 81
7. Florida International University 7 NPCs, 2013 Quota 69
8. Cal State Fullerton 6 NPCs, 2013 Quota 69
9. University of Colorado 9 NPCs, Total 208, 2013 Quota 82
10. Baylor University 8 NPCs, 2014 Quota 79
11. Colgate University 3 NPCs, 2013 Quota 65
12. Florida Gulf Coast University 5 NPCs, Total 180, 2013 Quota between 56-72
13. Belmont University 4 NPCs, 2013 Quota between 61-69
14. Texas State University 7 NPCs, 2013 Quota 70

16. University of Delaware 11 NPCs, 2014 Quota between 71-78
17. University of Missouri 15 NPCs, Total 288, 2013 Quota 80
18. University of Minnesota - Duluth 1 NPC, 2013-2014 New members = 71

23. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 9 NPCs, Total 190, 2013 Quota 67
24. University of Texas 14 NPCs, 2013 Quota 70
25. University of Florida 16 NPCs, Total 185, 2013 Quota 70

Honorable Mentions:
Auburn
Northern Arizona
Central Arkansas
San Diego State
Yale
University of Georgia
North Georgia
Tarleton State
Texas A&M
Virginia Tech (although Kappa Alpha Theta is scheduled to recolonize at a date TBA)

I bolded all the groups for which an official colonization has been announced, and italicized the ones where the school has been open for expansion but presentations haven't been announced or made yet or nothing came of the presentation. I also didn't know what to do for Texas A&M, since the local Jewish sorority there was colonized by AEPhi but they didn't do a full-scale colonization and I don't know if they're participating in formal recruitment. I'm impressed with your predictions, irishpipes!

Griffins&Quills 07-03-2015 06:16 PM

Supposedly Auburn's decision is supposed to be in the end of August. Just a rumor though. Not sure if the chosen group would then do a spring colonization or wait until after FR in Fall 2016.

I love this thread though. Can't wait til it gets updated with new predictions.

Alpha Delta Pi has a Fall 2016 colony at LSU. Since housing is at a premium, and economic times are changing, quota numbers may naturally reduce before another group beyond theirs is needed.

Not a rumor - presentations and meetings at Auburn are scheduled for after recruitment

Delta Gamma recolonized while I was in school at Auburn and it was a spring recolonization. And if I am remembering correctly, Theta was a spring recolonization as well in 2009.

Can't wait to see who is selected as the 18th sorority at Auburn. War Damn Eagle!

Thinking we should update this thread for this year as recruitment results come in!

Could someone please pay the administration at the University of Kansas to open for expansion? PRETTY PLEASE!!!!

Griffins&Quills 08-24-2015 08:59 PM

Kansas has SDT coming back in 2016. I think it might be a while before they invite another group

KU has been in a pretty stagnant growth pattern compared to other schools. (I'm just referring to NPC stats.)

Happy Alum 08-26-2015 08:32 AM

I hope Avila University opens for expansion because it is in a metropolitan area that would have alumnae support for several NPC member groups.

rockwallgreek 08-26-2015 05:56 PM

Does Avila have any NPC chapters that are active?

For those of you who are curious, Avila University is a private Cathollic university in Kansas City, MO.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avila_University

I bet Theta Phi Alpha would be interested!

irishpipes 08-26-2015 10:04 PM

Obviously Missouri State needs to open. Only 7 chapters and quota of 94 with some groups taking 100+.

On campus:
SSS
ASA
ADPi
DZ
SK
GPhiB
AXO

33girl 08-26-2015 10:21 PM

Yes, I saw that 94 today and couldn't quite believe it.

Any idea why Missouri State hasn't expanded? Seems like a no-brainer.

Is housing an issue? Quick Googling shows that all the chapters have houses except the one local, which makes a point of saying on its website that they do not have a live-in requirement.

33girl 08-27-2015 01:02 PM

I think Tri Sigma's recolonization wasn't too terribly long ago and they want to make sure all groups are solid...I think they're ok with that now though. Their growth is definitely a result of the name change.

They have been open - Gamma Phi Beta colonized in 2009 and Tri-Sigma in 2013. They just need to open again! Soon! Multiple times!

sdtennisgal 08-27-2015 03:49 PM

I know from friends in Missouri that MSU has done a great job of marketing the University in the past decade, and the administration has apparently been supportive of Greek life. I think the school is shedding the commuter/local region reputation it had several decades ago. The one problem I can foresee is room to grow, as the university is in the middle of the city.
I looked at the chapter listings and saw Phi Mu used to have a chapter. Pethaps they could recolonize.

ChioLu 08-27-2015 04:13 PM

sdtennisgal -- I think all the chapters not currently on at Missouri State would want to throw their hat in the ring!

Curious why you say that?

ChioLu 08-27-2015 05:21 PM

Because of Theta Phi Alpha history of being founded as a Catholic sorority (though not limited since 1968) and since there are chapters at many Catholic universities: Loyola (New Orleans), St. John's, Creighton, St. Leo, Rockhurst, Sacred Heart, Ashland, Merian, Merrimack, Dayton (active chapters).

DubaiSis 08-27-2015 05:27 PM

I haven't heard any rumblings but I know my Alpha Xi sisters in Kansas City would love to have another chapter relatively close to support. SMSU (or whatever the acronym is they're using these days) would be great. As would UCM.

33girl 08-27-2015 05:48 PM

They're Missouri State now. I am pretty sure their admissions department would sic a firing squad on you if you called them SMSU.

howdy96 08-29-2015 01:58 AM

Texas A&M is predicted to have a quota of well over 100! Over 1400 PNMs went through 12 houses with one colonizing.

DubaiSis 09-03-2015 12:23 PM

I'm having a quiet day at work (nobody travels or plans to travel the week before a holiday), running through the numbers posted so far this year and I was thinking. (duh duh duuuuuuuuuh, scary music playing!) Arkansas' two newest chapters seem to be stable, the numbers are still massive, and as I understand it new construction is coming along apace. Is there talk of further expansion? Has the university allowed precious space for further expansion?

xibair 09-03-2015 12:29 PM

And what happened to the two that presented at University of Arkansas? Did they withdraw or was it not a good fit? I have never seen that happen.

ChioLu 09-03-2015 12:32 PM

From Irishpipes initial post, how many in the top 25 and honorable mentions have expanded?
I think many from that list added sororities.
Maybe we should start a new list and get the ball rolling again!

Now I'm remembering that the issue was dropped. I'm not sure if they declined an offer or an offer was not given. Having absolutely nothing to do with the school, I would guess housing was the hiccup. They better have a housing plan as part of the proposal or it's going to be a non-starter. And if the school isn't ponying up space a sorority is not going to be able to get it done. At least that's what I've gathered from here. And why I'm asking if there has been a change in what's been going on on the ground in real life.

Yes, a new list would be prudent as much has changed over eighteen months. Would irishpipes and clemsongirl like to flip a coin toward new thread authorship?
