Life doesn't work that way.

;)

I'm sure you thought of this clever retort and just knew were handing the OP her/his ass with it. But....

You have acne and your roommate is a lesbian. Totally mature reasons to skip class.

Alumiyum 06-08-2011 12:45 PM

Bwahahahahahhahaha at omgmysociallifesuck and ihaveacnewahhhh being reasons to skip class NOT being indicators of extreme immaturity.

I'm glad your skin cleared up and now you think you can function in society. But holy mother of god, if a few zits and a bit of lack of sleep derailed your freshman year, you are going to have a serious problem once real-life problems hit you.

blondebabe8 06-08-2011 12:58 PM

my first semester i got a 3.0. i had a groups of friends and we hung out all the time. i was happy. had a good roommate too. next semester i realized they werent true friends and had actually been backstabbing me. so this semester i had no friends. i was hoping to make friends with my roommate. she was a very strange girl. she wore all black, had a weird mohawk thing, always brought her girlfriends to the room, blasted loud heavy metal music i didnt like, masturbated every night. just sorry, not the type of girl id make good friends with. never knew anyone else in college and never went out to parties like i had done in my first semester. i had no friends, no life. i couldve went out and made friends but i was too afraid because of my acne. when i had blown out acne like that, i couldnt be myslef. i couldnt have fun and act like i normally would because peoples eyes would always be on my skin and not my eyes. and i felt so ugly. no one is ever in the mood to make friends when they have a diseased looking face. it wasnt a few zits. they were everywhere. huge cysts too. makeup couldnt do anything. a few months back i went on accutane and am clearing up.

the semester when i had a life = 3.0
the semester when i didnt have a life = 1.(something)

my life outside of school effects my grades. end of story. always has been that way. its a direct correlation. i know me. its been that way through high school too.

blondebabe8 06-08-2011 12:59 PM

oh and a 3.0 isnt even my best!..but you get the point.

Titchou 06-08-2011 01:09 PM

Oh, I think we get the point alright.....

Oh blondebabe8 is a hot mess and Greek life has reasonable standards, and never the twain shall meet.

The Delphic oracle in me says you and a Greek life ain't gonna happen. Accept it and move on.

AXOrushadvisor 06-08-2011 01:35 PM

I can not believe I just read this whole thread. I must be crazy and with a headache to boot. For what it is worth I think your Greek Life office might have a minimum GPA to participate of a 2.5 to protect potential new members going through recruitment from getting released from every Chapter for not having grades. I KNOW your FRIENDS (girls tell PNM's what they want to hear all the time) told you their Chapter would take you, but most Chapters have a minimum GPA for college students and students coming from High School. The other thing to remember is that a couple of girls do not speak for the entire Chapter not even the Recruitment Chair. If this Chapter does have a minimum GPA and there is an Advisor present I think your chances would be slim to none getting through that requirement IMHO.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but I think if you go through recruitment with a 2.12-2.45 (no one knows what grades you actually will get even though you are counting on a 4.0) will end in major disappointment for you. If I was your friend or mentor I would advise you to get the best grades you can this summer and get the best grades you can get in the Fall. Hopefully your campus does spring informal and you can try to get into a sorority that way.

I don't know if you are for real or not, but good luck to you. You have a long road ahead of you.

blondebabe8 06-08-2011 01:41 PM

the sorority doesnt care about your gpa as long as you have met the minimum. and at my school you have to get a letter from the greek life office approving that you can rush before you even get to do that. and i know the girls werent just telling me that. for a fact. you guys wouldnt know. also, im rooming in a house with some of them next semester.

KSUViolet06 06-08-2011 01:47 PM

^^^Note: a letter saying that you can rush despite a bad GPA, doesn't = a guarantee of a bid.

Your Greek Life Office can't tell you NOT to rush, but they can't tell the sororities to BID you with said GPA.

Edit: and "if you know for a fact that your friend's chapter is going to give you a bid", why are you asking for advice?

the office can tell me not to rush? thats what i thought...

and if i had a 2.5 i could rush? i just need 9 credits this summer.

update: i contacted the lady in charge or the summer college and asked her about the credit limit and everything. this is what she said:

"You will need to get approval from your department chairperson/advisor to take over 7 credits in a six week session. Thanks"

so next stop=my advisor. do you guys think hell let me?

I'm sure the chapter advisory board and National Officers would agree.

Honestly, it will depend on whether he thinks you can handle it.

Anyone I've ever known to get approved for an overload on credits has been an excellent student all through college, so the advisor had no qualms about letting them go over the max number of hours (I'm talking above a 3.6.)

If you're just now getting back on your feet academically, he may be hesitant to approve your overload for fear that you'll be overwhelmed and do REALLY BADLY.

The worst thing would be for you to get approved to take this higher number of courses, do poorly and put yourself in a worse position than you're already in.

You're right, we don't know... and unless you've sat in on any of the sorority's membership selection meetings, neither do you.

I wouldn't if I were him. You don't have a good enough GPA to get into your major. Rationality dictates that you would take a step back and try harder while having less on your plate, not a lot more. But none of this is rational, so what the hell do I know?

Were I the adviser, I would not as I would be concerned you just couldn't handle the load as evidenced by your previous performance. You would just be further down this bad road.

However, WE ARE NOT HIM/HER! We can't tell you what HE/SHE would do...only what we would do. And if I were the adviser for a chapter on your campus, you would be released the first day with this GPA. That may be mean but maintaining our standards and not having to deal with you for 3 lackluster semesters in a row before we could expel you is just not how I'd want to spent my time and energy.

just bc im rooming with them doesnt make me their friend. i hardly know them. it was a last minute thing that happened.

KSUViolet06 06-08-2011 02:05 PM

Note: it's not YOUR sorority if you haven't received a bid. It's theirs. If you refer to it as "your sorority" or "our sorority" in front of them, they'll probably get creeped. Don't get me wrong, I had friends who spent lots of time aound me and my sisters. But Sigma is (and was) OURS and not my friend's.

blondebabe8 06-08-2011 02:05 PM

but i absolutely without a doubt could handle the load, in fact if i got in, my gpa would go up!

I have NEVER heard of a NPC Sorority not caring about GPA's. It is a cornerstone of what we stand for along with community service, sisterhood and several other things. There are grade reports that are not only sent to the Greek Life office, but also to National HQ's. Most Greek Life offices have pride in the fact that the all sorority GPA is higher then the independent students on campus. That got me thinking. Is this a local sorority you want to join?

THEY ARENT MY FRIENDS. I NEVER EVER TALK TO THEM! THE ONLY REASON IM LIVING WITH THEM IS BECAUSE I WAS FORCED TO! I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE (THIS IS A LONG STORY WITHIN ITSELF) BUT YEAH THEY ARENT MY FRIENDS, BUT THEY DO WANT ME TO JOIN.
