I read that the Panhel requested that because the local Kappa Delta Epsilon uses KDE, or something like that.
Our house had a piano and some old KD songbooks, and "Kappa Delt" sounds like a phrase from some of the old songs we never sang. Ah, here it is: http://thedartmouth.com/2009/05/27/news/panhell |

Yep, we're all about giving GLOs nicknames at Dartmouth. Sigma Delta (which, point of interest, is a local that stemmed from our Sigma Kappa chapter) goes by Sigma Delt, DDD goes by Tri-Delt (as opposed to Tri-delta), (plus Phi Delt, Theta Delt, etc.) so it is kind of habit to shorten "Delta" to "Delt".
It also does alleviate some of the confusion between KD and KDE. We knew KDE had some concerns about the name similarity, and we mentioned that Kappa Delt might be a better nickname than KD and the new colony ran with it. Nicknames are also pretty fluid. The Alpha Xi Delta chapter went by Alpha Xi until Alpha Phi came to campus, and then people started referring to them as AZD. Our local Epsilon Kappa Theta (which was originally a chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta) sometimes retains the "Theta" nickname, and sometimes goes by EKT. I love GC because you guys assume (rightly) that Panhellenic worked their butts of to make everyone happy, instead of scapegoating us like the newspaper and the rest of the shcool! |

VT total
If I remember correctly, they raised total 10 last spring after FR, and they haven't re-evaluated yet this spring. The past two years quota has been 51, which is significantly larger than in previous years. I haven't heard any direrct talk of expansion yet, but I am only an advisor from a distance, not located on the campus (or even in the state!) to know if those conversations have begun.
