Hang in there Hoosierxgirl-it is tough at IU and you rightly are one of the lucky ones. There are few COR opportunities and if you wish to PM me feel free. I am not an alum but have a Greek there now. I think you should rank and see what happens and review the threads of those in your situation who now love their homes. Good Luck!!!!!

Cuts are tough. Trust me, you most likely are not the only PNM who feels this way right now.

I don't know alot about informal, but I know that it may be tough for you to go through formal again next year and get a bid.

Something to ask yourself: If you dropped out of recruitment, went through informal, and didn't get a bid, would you regret dropping out?

fantASTic 01-10-2009 07:37 PM

I think your best option is to see if you get a bid and TRY IT OUT. I think that if you give your potential new home a chance, you may be very surprised at how much you love it. You owe it to yourself to give it a try. Again...they cut girls to keep you. They want you. Remember that! They think you are special! So go in there and give it 100%!

Excellent point. So often, PNMs get (understandably) hung up on who cut them, and they forget that the groups they have left are the ones who WANT them. These 2 chapters obviously want to see more of you, so keep that in mind.

Also consider the fact that informal opportunities may be limited if the chapters take their quota of new members during formal and fill to total.

Again, only YOU know how you feel right now, so do what's best for YOU. Keep us posted!

While I'm not a collegiate member at IU, I do have good friends there, and they have given me a feel for the campus culture. Rushing as a sophomore at IU is not easy at all, and it rarely works out the way you want it to. If you drop out now, you don't stand a very good chance of getting a bid in the future at all. It seems as if you had a good experience at your actual pref parties, and I'll remind you now: the women you meet at rush are a very small percentage of the entire house, and you don't know your pledge class yet. For all you know, you could love them. I would go through with it, and I would keep in mind that most houses at IU do not do informal. You were right to say that falling in love with a house takes time. My sister who cried and cried on bid day was sullen for the first few weeks, finally opened up and became one of the most active girls in my chapter. IU recruitment is competitive, and I know its a hard day, but the best thing you can do is stick with it. Recruitment isn't easy, but the system, for the most part, does tend to work when you've gotten this far. Good luck tomorrow, and try to stick with it.

Just so you all know... I talked with my Rho Gamma and decided it was best for me to drop at this point so I don't get stuck with a bid if I choose not to accept (becasue then I can't do informal). Soooo, I'm sure I will always have the "what if" feeling just because it's unavoidable but I am confident I am making the right decision for me. It just didn't work out this time around. I had really high hopes for the system but it's not fool-proof and I'm sure with added experience I'll be a little more prepared. I hope everyone doesn't think I'm giving up because I'm bitter or anything. Feel free to PM me if you want a more detailed explanation. I will keep you all updated on COR when I find out more information. I cannot tell you how great it has been to share my story...just to have an outlet and a way to document my rollercoaster ride. I'm confident things will work out in the end...sorority or not.

I'm sure everyone here will respect the fact that you made the best decision for you. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors (whether you end up Greek or not). Keep us posted if you end up doing informal.

phimusam 01-10-2009 10:04 PM

From what I've seen, it's hardly ever that a sorority did not "like" you. It's more a matter of who is ahead of you on their list and you can hardly ever control that.

jessipoo915 01-10-2009 11:15 PM

good for you hoosierxgirl. you made the right decision for YOU and thats what really counts. You seem level headed and im sure whatever happens in the future, it will be for the best. I won't wish you luck because I don't think you need it.

Best wishes!
