I don't think we are counting colleges that disbanded Greeklife. Hunter college would qualify as well.

Since we're a similar campus atmpshere to Emory, I thought I'd throw Washington University in St. Louis in here:
Washington University St. Louis, MO January 10-20, 2014 Quota= Campus Total=161 Quota last year=47 ***************** Kappa Alpha Theta Alpha Iota 1906-1973/1987-2000 Pi Beta Phi Missouri Beta 1907 Delta Gamma Alpha Epsilon 1914-1973/1990 Gamma Phi Beta Phi 1917-1988 Alpha Chi Omega Alpha Zeta 1920-1975/1985-1989 Kappa Kappa Gamma Gamma Iota 1921 Phi Mu Zeta Epsilon 1923-1966 Alpha Epsilon Phi Psi 1925-1934/1960 Delta Delta Delta Delta Phi 1926-1954 Alpha Xi Delta Beta Beta 1929-1963 Zeta Tau Alpha Beta Chi 1931-1967 Sigma Delta Tau Alpha Eta 1951-1973 Delta Phi Epsilon Delta Tau 1963-1971 Alpha Phi Zeta Upsilon 1983 Chi Omega Tau Mu 2003 Alpha Omicron Pi Delta Kappa 2009 Kappa Delta Theta Beta 2013 That's 9 inactive chapters to 8 active ones. However, our Panhellenic community has kind of exploded in recent years, and we just welcomed our third new chapter in ten years this spring when Kappa Delta colonized. This thread totally fascinates me. I love history and things like this. |
I'll add it.

Phi Mu is coming back to U of I? I never heard that announced. Congratulations!
Also, is Phi Mu colonizing at Wash U or the Unversity of Washington? I thought it was the latter. |
No problem. I just used what was on irishpipes thread and she obvi hadn't heard. :D Will those be recolonizations or new chapters?

AOII Angel, we are returning to the University of Illinois (our Delta Beta chapter). I know certain GCers on here will be excited to hear that! Also, I'm proud to say that the Michigan State University re-colonization is of our very own National President's chapter, the Delta Nu chapter of Phi Mu. As a Phi Mu initiate of PSU, I'm excited to see us continuing to expand in the Big Ten! This is going to be an exciting next few years for us! |
Don't worry about the mix up, most of us are used to it by now. I'm still asked by family and friends how cold it is in Washington or if it was exciting to experience the election first hand in D.C. The Student Union actually sells t-shirts that say "It's in St. Louis Dammit!" as a fundraiser.
However, I hope our panhellenic community continues to experience this growth and we do get to add a new chapter in the future. The Greek system here is really supportive and it's been great to see Kappa Delta thrive in the few months they've been on campus. |

Okay, we were easily amused... |

Oh, and for AOII Angel, thank you for your hard work on that list! Not to be nitpicky, but University of Missouri's nickname is with two Zs, not Ss. So it's Mizzou. :) |

And I have to say, I would kind of want to root for Gamma Phi Beta. My best friend from home is a Gamma Phi, and I can understand how special it would be to recolonize a single-letter chapter. My only concern would be where another chapter would have their suite. The Women's Building is full to burst and they already had to kick someone out of a suite I believe in order to free one up for Kappa Delta (there were one or two non-sorority organizations with suites so one of those had to leave). Which suite was Gamma Phi in when you were there? I think we're in the old Alpha Chi Omega suite, next to Alpha Phi's on the back side of the building, but I'm not positive. (And just a fun thing for anyone intersted: my chapter is about to celebrate its 100th year since its charter, the second one on campus with Pi Phi's Missouri Beta centennial in 2007. Again, while I never seriously think of WashU as a Greek-heavy school, it certianly has quite the history!) |
