* Olympic Hockey bump *

Well grezt' and commany made the annoucement, not too far off from what i originally said back when this thread was around...

i'm not gonna list each individual player but i was really surprised to see neuwendyke and foote...i really think o'neil should be given a shot over old joe and that redden is more deserving than both foote and brewer...
hey ex, what was that comment about lindros not being on the team?
and something about brewer not being on it as well?

TreeHugger 11-23-2003 10:54 PM

Speaking about NHL hockey...

Anyone see the old timer oilers vs the old timer habs?

Man, to see Fhur, Gretz and the gang (not to mention Flower Power) in action just one more time..

.Fan-Friggin-Tastic

Too bad the Oil don't play like that anymore. sigh.

I thought this was a really awesome story...

'Forget the exam, Canucks need you'
UBC backup goalie suits up for Canucks after last-minute injury sparks frantic search

UBC backup goalie Chris Levesque gathers his gear as he prepares to rush down to GM Place for last night's game between the Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Chris Levesque will probably be tired when he arrives in class for his 8 a.m. geography exam today.

At least he'll have a good excuse -- and a great story to tell.

Levesque, backup goaltender for the University of B.C. Thunderbirds, signed a one-day amateur contract with the Vancouver Canucks yesterday and dressed as the backup to Johan Hedberg against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night.

Starter Dan Cloutier hurt his groin during the morning skate and when the Canucks were unable to recall a goalie from their AHL affiliate in Winnipeg in time for the game, they turned to Levesque.

But first they had to find Levesque, who was nowhere to be found.

"He won't be able to suit up for the Canucks unless we find him soon," said Marc Weber of UBC's athletics department less than four hours before last night's game. "We're scouring the campus and we haven't found him yet."

At about 3:30 p.m., a Province reporter and photographer rushed to UBC to join the search for Levesque, 23, who is in his third year at UBC and winless this season with the T-Birds.

"We've looked everywhere and we can't find him," reported Weber as we arrived on the campus. "If we don't find him soon it will be too late."

The Province caught up to Levesque in the Thunderbirds' dressing room.

He'd only found out that he was to be a hockey Cinderella 20 minutes earlier -- only three hours before game time -- when teammate Casey Bartzen found him studying for his geography final exam he was supposed to take this morning.

"I thought he was pulling my leg when he told me," said Levesque, who is from Port Coquitlam and graduated from Riverside Secondary.

After playing his minor hockey in PoCo, Levesque played three years of Junior A hockey in Manitoba.

"I'm unbelievably excited," he said, hurriedly packing his gear into a duffel bag.

"You don't get an opportunity like this every day."

Levesque said there was always a chance Hedberg could get hurt or kicked out of the game, throwing him into the fray. And for several spellbinding moments in the first period -- with Hedberg flat on the ice after colliding with an opposing player and Canucks coach Marc Crawford unable to suppress a smile behind the bench -- it looked like it might be about to happen. But it was not to be.

"I just talked to my parents and they're going to be coming down to the game," he said. "I've been trying to get a hold of my girlfriend but she's in the midst of studying for exams, too."

Students on campus were excited when told of Levesque's good fortune.

"That's cool, that's really awesome for him," said first-year arts student Kali-Ann Cameron, 18, who plays defence for the UBC women's hockey team. "I'm glad [the Canucks] found him."

I thought this was quite humourous ;)

By the way Sens fans - loved that score against the Leafs last night :p.

Well as the Season is winding to a close things are really starting to heat up. The Eastern Conference is alot of fun to watch right now, with 2 teams tied for first in points (78) and two teams tied for second in points (77) it's anybodys division right now. Ottawa made a great trade for Bondra, Muckler must be one hell of a negotiator.

Does anybody have any predictions about the final 2 weeks before the trade deadline? any idea who may be going where?

I think the Leafs will get Gonchar as it is being rumoured, who they'll send to Washington though, maybe Carlos Coliacovo, who knows?

"FI-RE SA-THER!!" CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP!
"FI-RE SA-THER!!" CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP!
"FI-RE SA-THER!!" CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP!

Anyways, I think the Avs will choke again, maybe losing to the Wings in the Conference finals. They seem pretty inconsistent right now, and they don't have that switch that they can just turn on when the playoffs start like the Ducks did last year.

But what do I know about hockey? Thoughts Canadianteke?

To be honest with you stan i haven't been following the western conference at all, other than whether the Oilers will be making the playoffs or not.

The Avs just picked up defenceman Bob Boughner from the 'canes for washingtons 3rd round pick and a prospect, Nice move.

actually the ducks 'switch' wasn't turned on just at the playoffs...they were one of the top teams for the entire second half of the season.

ETA: poor st.louis, is your streak coming to an end?

Wow...The hit by Burtuzzi was brutal, and totally uncalled for. He should be gone for at least 10 games, if not more. There is a line and burtuzzi crossed it by leaps and bounds. I hope Moore is ok, and that he didn't sustain to severe an injury. 10 Games minimum...if not more for the blatent intent to injure.

Hey.... 10 games min. would be the best for him... he's pretty much a marked man, as that was so low. The looks on the faces of the Canucks players spelled it out for me.... how none really gave him a friendly look.

For the love of god... The Oilers are in serious need of turning down the suck. However the fact that we now have Nedved is fan-tucking-tastic, add to boot Salo left today. I'm not sure how I feel about this, he was really good at one point but has been sucking hardcore lately.

bcdphie 03-09-2004 02:16 PM

As a die hard canucks fan I want to see Bertuzzi gone for a while -that Steve Moore thing was over.

Last night's game needs to go into the surpressed memory file...
