The University of Arkansas is 4% African-American.

I believe the other races have nearly the same or less representation.

I guess that would be the thing your mind would jump to -- money.

Believe it or not, some causes need a different kind of support. You can't just buy people off your entire life, you know. Sometimes YOU actually have to stand up for something.

And if more minority women don't, it will be because they don't want to and not because they "can't." :)

I know organizations' reputations matter but it really sucks that fraternity men's opinions matter this much (not just with this specific incident but in general). There are so many people in the campus and local communities whose opinions should matter more, even if the mixers and stuff could be impacted.

Okay, well what support do you deduce that I should do?

I'd love to hear this, honestly. Should I dress in a cheerleader costume outside the girls houses and say "GO MINORITY WOMEN!!! GO GREEK!!" when they don't rush...and if they decide to rush Sophomore year, they're already too late?

edit: You don't quite understand what I mean by money, because this is the most important part of it. As Arkansas is very poor generally, the minorities are poorer than the whites as a whole. How are they going to pay exorbitant sorority fees if they can barely feed their family and go to the University on scholarship?

Why does the percentage of minorities matter for this topic, EW?

Anyway, Univ of Arkansas is really focused on minority recruitment.

Would you deny that there's a significant income gap between whites and different races...remember if you say no, you'd be going against your Marxism.

With that, and with Arkansas being poor as it is...it is very difficult for minorities to pay for very expensive sororities.

I do recall one minority being in a top tier sorority, as I think about it. She went to one of the top high schools in the state and is very, very wealthy.

I am appalled at the stupidity of some people on Greek Chat ... Elephant Walk being near the top of the list. Some inferiors like him can only operate in anonymity. I suspect if we met in "real" life he would be the little twerp who barely got in to his fraternity to begin with (and one of the few accomplishments he will ever have in life). I vote to ignore him and maybe he will go away.

DUH. The obvious gap between blacks and whites is why I brought up race in that "south" thread when someone celebrated the social class divide. You get it now but didn't get it then and accused me of bringing race into something that had nothing to do with race. :rolleyes: But here you are--I guess it's okay because whites can bring up race whenever and however without being accused of irrationally playing the "race card."

However, none of what you're typing about now really has to do with what your posts were initially about. You're struggling to bring the attention away from bigotry and address social issues. LOL. Nice try.

Okay--let's pretend EW just said the girl was a poor dresser and the fraternity men did not want to associate with a sorority that pledged a poor dresser. Maybe she wore a tacky Obama tie or something. :p

I hope to read more about how fraternity men's opinions matter so much for sororities' popularities. :)

Absolutely opposite. I pointed straight to bigotry and social issues. Maybe read what I wrote, discussing the gap between races and so forth...I would consider that bigotry and social issues, no?

As I said before, yes. They were not doing well before because they lacked tradition and connections. They are too new of a sorority. Because they lacked these things, they made rush decisions which were not things the fraternity system looked upon as good, it sent them much lower. This is a personal example obviously, but I would think that this has happened at many other campuses.

Does EW attend class or don't the Kappa Sigs and U of A care about going to class?

I just realized that EW is from ARKANSAS...a state at or near the bottom of the food chain in nearly every statistic. I guess a guy who wears a pig face and goes around yelling "soo-pig" would end up with an inferiority complex and need any bias he can find to feel superior to someone. whether it race or otherwise. Pathetic.

Soooo...the fraternity shunned the sorority because...they pledged a black woman who is from a wealthy background. Okay...so that's a race effect that can't be disguised. You said it is tradition. Now what?
