Wow, this is an old thread but definitely worth reviving!

I eventually did get to try Sonic a couple of years after I started this thread. My husband was doing a monthlong Navy stint in Memphis, TN and I found Sonic when I went down to visit him.

I fell in love with both Sonic and Tennessee that week :)

I haven't had Sonic for SO long! We don't have any close by, but when I lived in Kansas I went there all the time! Nothing better than a real cherry Coke or cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper! It was all pretty darn good!!

We definitely have them in Virginia :) Thank God for Sonic.

The commercials are ALL OVER NJ, despite the closest location being in one of the Carolinas (I think, maybe even Virginia). So I made her go. I was not dissappointed for a fast food place.

Kinda reminded me of Checkers.

Where we will be moving, there will be one about 20 miles away

adpiucf 06-19-2006 12:00 PM

I've never had Sonic.

There's one down the street from me. We hardly ever go there because they're slow. The food is ok, and the prices are ok, but it's nothing special. Except the limeades. A Med. strawberry limeade is like $0.69 cents with tax.

Ok I'm from New York where there isn't a Sonic nearby for hours. Yet for some reason they put their commercials all over our tv stations. I gotta ask why? It's not like I'm gonna see their commercial and go "oh that burger looks good. Let me drive down to North Carolina to get one." If anything, I'll see it and go "ooh that burger looks good, let me go to the McDonald's across the street."

AlphaFrog 06-19-2006 01:18 PM

Ok, I just looked for the hell of it. There are 6 Sonics within 20 miles of me.

The closest Sonic to NYC is around Lancaster, PA. See...it's not THAT far.:p

I looked it up on mapquest. Lancaster, PA is three hours from my house. The McDonald's across the street from me is still closer.

funny, because, as another New Yorker, ive seen commercials for Sonic, Checkers, and for some crazy ass reason, In-n-out. There are a few checkers in LI. The only Sonic i've been to is in South Carolina. and when i went to LA, i BEGGED my friends to go to In-n-out.

moral of the story: don't believe the hype. they all are mediocre at best.

Sonic's burgers are flavorless and are small. and i think they put mustard on their burgers.
Checker's - same thing.
In-n-out - the milkshake was thick, but warm. the fries are supposedely "fresh" but just taste like nothing. and the burger, again was just mediocre. and those who say its "cheaper than regular fast food" lied, because it is just as much as a Mcdonalds or BK meal.

however, i just came from Baltimore and had Mcdonalds, and why was it AMAZING?! the burger actually tasted like a burger, and the fries were crisp, not too oily at all. and yes there was mustard on the burger.

(which apparently is done EVERYWHERE ELSE except NYC, according to the person who took my order when i went back to them screaming "WTF is there mustard on my burger?!")

For you metro New Yorkers out there...

When I was a kid and my cousin's family got cable television for the first time one of the stations they got was WOR channel 9 out of New York. I always saw commercials for Carvel, which they didn't have where I lived, and I was obsessed with the idea of ice cream cakes!!!

I think that, in the back of my mind, that the real reason I moved to NYC after college was so that I would have access to Carvel

You think that a burger from McDonalds is better than In N Out? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! I think you're the first person I've ever come into contact with who does not enjoy the wonderfulness that is In N Out. You prefer a puny frozen hamburger patty on a cold bun with a little squirt of ketchup and mustard, a sprinkle of onions, and 2 pickle slices over an In N Out double double with two slices of melted cheese, secret sauce, fresh lettuce and tomato slices, and grilled or fresh onions on a fresh toasted bun? You must have gone to a bad one or something.

On the topic of Sonic - I love their mini banana splits! I still need to try the Chocolate Caramel one.
