I always give someone the benefit of the doubt until they can prove otherwise. I have no reason to not believe her, sure it seems rather idealisstic, but there are women who do have recruitment experiences like her.
Then again, maybe because I really do know 2 tiny twins that come from old money, share many characteristics as the OP, and went to separate (but competitive) schools... I'm a little more ready to believe her story. I also grew up around society much like what the OP grew up in and what she's typing is incredibly tame compared to what you'll hear in an average conversation. Just sayin'.... *shrugs* |
I'm enjoying. Please continue writing! :)

I guess I'm in the group that doesn't care if she's BSing. At the end of the day, she's provided some mildly entertaining reading, and it doesn't change the course of the universe if it really didn't happen. I'm not going to cry if she stops, but I've got 4 more hours here at work to get through and am appreciative for the occasional distraction.
PS...I love how at least half of the visible readers at any given time today have been reading this thread. |
This thread is highly entertaining, even though I'm not convinced it's real. Someone from old money with oodles of class wore hose with sequins up the back? Even in the 80s?
But I'm enjoying it, a lot more than some of the other rush threads. |
Count me in on the "keep this story going" list! It is highly entertaining, even if slightly embellished :p.
I kind of thought she was talking about Texas and SMU (except that SMU has deferred rush), so maybe TCU. And, having gone through rush on both sides at SMU, I can tell you that much of what she says is not far from the mark. I distinctly remember the year that "Miss Teen USA" was rushing. We had a life size cut-out of her up in the chapter room (sent by her local alum club) pushing us to rush her hard. Big name rushees were not at all unusual and it was a feeding frenzy in some ways to get those girls. (Nice Memory - Every day after rushing we looked forward to the yummy food (especially donut cakes, mmmh good) sent by the alumni clubs) Some of the clothing she describes would not be unusual either. Yes, espadrills and mexican dresses were aplenty, but there were so many girls rushing from different parts of the country, where styles were different, that you'd see just about everything. I wore linen walking shorts and a silk safari shirt (gorgeous, wish I still had it) and flats (probably with tights) the first day. I'm sure that at some point during rush I wore hose and high heels though. I was there in the early eighties and we definitely wore hose, although tights were really more common. The fashion then was Laura Ashley dresses with tights or VERY preppy shorts/skirts with cumberbunds (Harolds) and high necked shirts that buttoned up the back. It was definitely DIFFERENT! :o And I don't dress like that now!! lol! |

Me too...I didn't get a strong impression that the story was fake (yet in the back of my mind I considered the possibility), but either way I don't care...I was entertained, and would like to see how the rest of the story plays out. P.S. We had identical twins in my chapter and they had a pretty interesting rush story...if I can recall more details, I'll sum it up in a post for everyone. P.S.S. To the person who suggested Tulsa and OU...I was thinking something along those lines too. Especially since she stated that Cowgirl Callie was from Kansas - figured not too many girls from Kansas would show up at an SEC recruitment and already know a few people in some of the houses. I'm assuming that this story is unfolding somewhere in the midwest. |

I totally don't care if its a true story or not. I read these stories to break up my day when I have a lot of data input which is really really boring. I need the distraction! |
Well gosh, I feel bad for starting the doubt. Like others have said, I do find the thread highly entertaining and I do hope it continues...I just have my doubts on the reality of it all. All of the "old money" that I know would never post anything flaunting themselves like this girl has.

I definitely fall into the category of not caring whether it's true, false, or somewhere in-between... it really is nice to hear about the "dream rush." The majority of retro recruitment threads have been interesting, but by no means perfect. I love that someone out there had a near-perfect rush experience that most of us could only dream about. Plus, I really want to know what that "something else" is!

I am enjoying this immensely. I do note that no where does she indicated a time frame (ie, 80's). I too am inclined to believe Oklahoma, Texas etc. Two reasons..."Cowgirl" is from Kansas and a number of her favorite resorts are in the west.
Although she mentions lifts and throws in cheerleading, I am inclined to think it is earlier than the 80's. Just because she mentions current movies etc, doesn't mean she is still fresh out of college. :) Her story telling is definitely developed...and the way she describes her mother, feels like mom was more a product of the 40's or 50's. Either way...any way...whichever way....keep the story coming! |

Oh, and as a side note, I realize that going w/out hose is OK now - but if your feet or legs look like a topographical map - put the hose on, PLEASE. |
