same question to you: how are mothers and wives of famous people counted as famous?

I get that the Kent shootings were a big deal but, if we're gonna' go that far-why not make the sorority women who were affected by the Virginia Tech shootings "famous" members, too? It seems odd to me. The Iraq war is also a big deal but, I don't know if my sorority should consider me a "famous" alumna because I was affected by it.

As far as mothers, wives, daughters, etc-you need to check some of the names of people that are considered "famous" because of who they are married to, mothers of, etc. Many of these organizations say, "So-and-So, famous little sister of So-and-So" or "So-and-So, wife of Dr. Seuss" or whoever. If those organizations can do the same thing, I see nothing wrong with saying Debbie Phelps, mother of an Olympic swimmer and an AUTHOR, is famous.

She went to my school and I talked to her when she went through recruitment! My sister was in her Theta chapter. SUCH a nice person and super talented.

Thank you! What a lovely thing to say.

I am not the biggest county music fan, but everyone knows that our most famous alumna is probably Carrie Underwood.

Carrie is a very generous Foundation donor and she was also our keynote Convention speaker in 2007. She also donated tons of signed items and concert tickets to our most recent Foundation auction!

She got married over the weekend of Convention 2010 and several sisters were unable to attend Convention because they were invited to attend her (most likely super awesome) wedding.

THAT'S RIGHT, KIRK FOGG FROM LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE.

HAHAHAHA! That is AWESOME!

Jan Davis-astronaut
Sandra Scheuer-shooting victim at Kent State

Just some clarifications (I have my new member book right in front of me...and I know it's legit because it came from nationals since I was colony member!)

Marcia Wallace is not an Alpha Xi Delta, nor is Goldie Hawn.

I surrender all alumni bragging privileges to you. I thought we had a fighting chance with Kirk Fogg, but I was sadly mistaken. Here's to you Dorcas Riley.

Where was Ann Bowden an Alpha Xi Delta? Where did she go to college?

She's not. She, like als463 who listed her, is a Phi Mu.

Ann Bowden went to Howard College, now Samford.

And AlphaFrog has indeed won at this thread.

Ann Bowden was 16 when she ran across the Georgia state line with Bobby Bowden to get married. Was she an alum initiate?

I'm afraid you'll have to settle for a tie! From our Accomplished Member list: Agnes White Tizard, Sigma [chapter], Nutritionist; "Betty Crocker" authored Betty Crocker cookbook. There wasn't a color for red plaid...

And KSUViolets08, since you love country music so much, we have Deana Carter & Cathy Deupree (a.k.a. Jett Williams).

One of my favorites, though, is Jean Smart from Designing Women. I was even born on her birthday!

She and Bobby later went to college, as MysticCat said. When he was president of Pike, she was president of Phi Mu. No, she was not an Alumna Initiate. She was initiated in college.

Bobby had already been to UA and was at Howard when they married. I just wondered about the sorority membership since I had always heard they ran off to Georgia to get married when she was 16. Live and learn.
