i've alway heard (and it could be very wrong) that the Ole Miss Tri Delt house was the biggest sorority house in the SEC and the 3rd biggest in the nation, and from the inside it looks huge but like i said that could be wrong

Being a grad student, I haven't a clue about the current climate in south greek, aside from the kid that got hit because there are no sidewalks.

Kstar, I believe you are mistaken about the DG house. True, we're not as big as Alpha Phi, but defintely no sleeping porches here. The maximum number of girls in a room at the DG house at Oklahoma is 4. The 4-girl rooms are actually quite big- complete with 4 beds, 4 built in closets, room for 4 desks, and room to spare for a couch. Additionally, we also have a separate Annex in the back of the house that has individual bedrooms, usually for senior women.

Beta Theta Pi has a new house under construction at the University of Missouri. According to an article in today's Columbia Tribune, the new house will be 41,000 square feet, which makes it larger than the Pi Kappa Alpha house at Florida State.

I know that our Mizzou chapter house will be the largest Tri Sigma house in the country when it's completed!

Each member's fingerprint is used to enter the house for safety purposes.

Wonder how this is working? My job involves arrest fingerprint cards.

When we were testing live-scan equipment, I was told that my fingerprints were too worn from decades of typing to be legible!

When Georgia had the fingerprint-on-driver's-license requirement, the incompetent GSP employee did a lousy job and it was hard to get a match for the next 2 years.

No, if you'll go to the Beta website and see the construction photos, it's clear that they'll have two separate buildings. The Pike house at FSU will remain the largest in the nation with 40,000 square feet under one roof. But it does sound like the Betas are building a showcase house. If you want to see another fabulous house, visit SAE at Kentucky.

That could be the case, but the article indicated "The new house will be 41,000 square feet, nearly twice the size of the old one." The article doesn't address the old annex at all, which will remain and is not part of the new construction project.

FYI - elevators are required in a lot of building codes these days. And most GLOs don't allow regular use of them - just during move in, move out, recruitment set moving, etc.
The new DG house at Alabama will be 34,400 SF and will house 60. I believe the new Tri Delta house there will be 40,000 SF.

Also wasn't SAE removed at Kentucky in 2010? Any idea who's using that house now?

It is still empty from what I have seen.

Wow. If that's the case Beta will have one house at 41K plus an annex at probably (?) 10K. That should set a mark that may never be surpassed. I've seen a lot of house plans and I'll stick to my guess that the two houses together equal 41K. However, hats-off to Beta. Records are made to be broken.

Re SAE at UK, they had a hazing incident this spring and the members have been moved out of the house because of a fire-related violation. It was bad, but I doubt that SAE will be out of their house for long.

UK’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter was suspended March 2010 and is scheduled to return from suspension Fall 2012. My understanding is that their house is not now, nor will be, used by any other GLO (or other group) during SAE’s suspension.

FWIW, even though posters in this thread were saying that the Alpha Phi house at Oklahoma was the biggest, they say on their site that they're the 2nd biggest (3rd paragraph). They don't say who the biggest one is.

the top 11 houses are listed on wikipedia (which of course is the font of everything)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_A...rority_housing

it seems fairly accurate

Thanks for the look at houses. If I'm not mistaken, that magnificent TKE house is actually the SAE house at Missouri, a former Governor's mansion. I don't know why the SAEs aren't there - probably hazing because that's what usually brings chapters down. I'm sure SAE will be back soon.

The most beautiful fraternity house I have ever seen, and I've seen hundreds on campuses all across the country, is the Sigma Pi house at Penn State. It looks like a Sherwood Forest castle from a fairy tale. That's an unmanly description I know, but its just stunning at twilight.
