Possible NPC Expansion at U. of Southern California (USC)

The college Panhellenic is supporting a local sorority at the U. of Southern California that wants to become a chapter of an NPC group. Reportedly the local is especially interested in either Alpha Epsilon Phi or Sigma Delta Tau. The local regards those sororities as being most closely aligned with the values and emphases of the local. An article in student paper mentions the proccess that will be followed to seek affiliation with a national:

Yeah, I know. But then there's the chance of getting a bunch of posts saying (correctly) that neither AEPhi nor SDT is exclusively Jewish, and -- for all I know -- that the USC local is not exclusively Jewish. Trouble like that I don't need.

ASU used to have a jewish sorority, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi...but they decided to affiliate with Alpha Epsilon Phi

My brother's chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi was finally re-chartered on Nov. 4th:

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – The Old Gal welcomed 27 new brothers into the Mystic Circle and officially re-chartered the Delta Beta Chapter at Northern Michigan University on Saturday, November 4, 2006.

A day three years in the making started with the initiation of our newest brothers into the Delta Beta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi.

The day’s events culminated with a formal banquet of over fifty people at the Radisson in downtown Marquette later that evening. The banquet was attended by Delta Beta alumni, undergraduate Delta Beta brothers and dates, representatives from other Greek organizations, and parents. Gus Rydholm, Northern Michigan ’80 served as the emcee for the chartering banquet.

The re-chartering of Delta Beta was a tremendous day for the “Old Gal” and specifically the Brothers of the Delta Beta Chapter. Through the steady stewardship of the undergraduate Brothers, alumni Brothers, Northern Michigan University and the Alpha Sigma Phi National Office, the Delta Beta Chapter has begun a new era with renewed strength.

Sorority Expansion Opportunity at Texas Christian

Panhellenic at Texas Christian U. ("TCU") has voted (9-1) for expansion. The student paper's November 9 '06 issue has an article giving an overview of the basics of the usual NPC expansion process and some indications of a possible timeline:

I'm right here in town and I did not know this!! I wonder if Alpha Gam or Alpha Phi might re-colonize. I'm pretty sure they both had a TCU chapter at one time.

I think Kappa Delta also had a chapter there.

The University of Maryland, College Park is considering the possibility of extension. I am on the newly formed extension exploration committee. The Panhellenic President says that the delegates will probably be able to vote on whether we will open for extension by March.

Actually there is no supposed Jewish or related GLO.

So supposedly it is a moot point!

Bored so have to post something!
;)

Other than some of the things I cannot talk about, My lips are sealed!:)

For the record (because it's been buggin' me)...

Expansion: When a university or college decides to invite a new sorority or fraternity on campus.

Extension: When a GLO decides to establish a chapter on a campus.

Actually, AEPhi *is* a historically, predominantly Jewish NPC sorority -- and a pretty neat, classy sorority overall too, I think. :-)

(It also shares in common with AOII its origins at academically prestigious Barnard College and first extension to Sophie Newcomb College in Louisiana. Other cool fact: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an initiated member. Go AEPhi!)

Panhellenically,

So, does that mean they do not take non jewish members?

Tom, I don't think that's a prerequisite for a GLO to consider themselves Jewish.

Tom Earp 11-15-2006 05:32 PM

Why not when they pronounce themselves as such?

You cannot have it both ways can you?
