A beer I just tried a couple of weeks ago was Harpoon Kellerbier, Unfiltered lager:
http://www.harpoonbrewery.com/beers/.../100bbl.htm#13 It's not as hoppy as I usually like my beers, but in that way it probably would have a broader appeal. Overall, it's a very good beer (and a solid addition to their 100 barrel series). |
new CO beers
I'm not sure what this is about, but New Belgium didn't do Loft this year -- that makes me very sad. This year's summer seasonal is Skinny Dip: cascade hops frolic with kaffir lime and ample malt to create a bright, citrusy nose that’s as crisp as chilling in a mountain pond. It's actually quite good for a hot summer day, a bit lighter than my usual beers of choice but refreshing.
If you like a nice imperial IPA, this is the shit. Holy crap it is good. The old man is a fan of Gordon from Oskar Blues. They also have a little beer called "Leroy." Leroy comes in cans and is described as "Little Chub," a lighter version of their classic Old Chub. |
So one of the local liquor stores has beer tastings every week (good stuff like Stone, Victory, and others), and last night was for Chimay Ale. It just reinforced my thought that, if you're a fan of good beer, you definitely have to try it. My favorite is the one with the blue label, although I can't remember the name right now.

Alright, I need a suggestion to get my husband off the Bud Light and Corona kick he's on. He drinks Bud when he wants to "have a few beers"...he drinks Corona when he wants to really feel the effects. I doubt he would touch anything European, it's not really his style.

Can you get Yuengling there?
|
Ah, Corona, the great overrated beer...
Sam Adams could work. He would probably want to stick with a lager or pilsner at first, something similar to what he's drinking. Sam Adams Boston Lager or Summer Ale may be a good start. They're not too hoppy and have a smooth finish. Grant's Lazy Days and Yuengling could also work. Of course, there's always PBR, which is a solid beer (especially for the large distribution). |

I might try him on the Sam Adams next time. |

Gordon is the best beer I've ever had. There. OMG. Also, this weekend is the Colorado Brewers' Festival in Ft. Collins, and I am very much looking forward to it. |

I really like Hoegaarden. It's a white beer, from Belgium *I think* I like it a lot. .

I'm bumping this in honor of the greatest event on earth, the Great American Beer Festival. My sympathy goes out to all who cannot attend this glorious and amazing weekend of beer and, well, more beer.
Also, Dogfish Head Punkin' Ale is the shit. |
