Aside from Kobe, I am just not in the business of putting alleged rape victims down. How can we ever say when something was or wasn't rape? Take, for instance, the case that the lawyer in the post from Kobe's site sited. How do we know that the young man didn't rape the girl? I am not saying that he did, but if we continue to doubt rape "victims" and state that they are just charging people out of fear, regret, or anger, we will continue to have victims afraid to come forth. Not all rape victims look like the ones on TV--torn clothes, bruises, cuts, etc.

Secondly, I don't think that a woman's color has anything to do it. Last night, someone called into a local radio show and said, "If he would've stuck with the sistas, he wouldn't have these problems." Women of all colors have these problems. No one color has a monopoly on being rape victims, just as no one color has a monopoly on making false accuastions. What is really the problem is that he cheated on his wife. His teammates, GM, etc. are saying that this alleged sexual assault is out of Kobe's character. What about ADULTERY? I understand that the sexual assault overshadows that point right now, but it still needs to be addressed.

Lastly, I know about "groupies" that stalk players. And, like the lawyer said, the players know as well. Therefore, they should be prepared for all sorts of things (i.e. kids, diseases, lawsuits). And the type of thinking that Miss Priss's husband possesses is the reason why so many women in our community are angry and disgusted with the relationships between black men and women, especially rich black men. We are viewed as desparate, aggressive, demanding, etc., while our non-black counterparts are "keepers" and are often sought after. That's all some BULLISHT! I can go on for days in this area, but I will digree. That's a whole 'nother issue and thread.

Girl- you are right on point.

Statistically, claims of sexual assault are just as true as claims of ANY other crime. 1 out of 3 women will be sexually assualted in their life time. I personally think he did it and it is probably not the first time. Its about power not sex. It has nothing to do with looks, money, or status. He is a sick individual. IF he truly did do it, I hope he goes to jail. He did this to himself...... It is all his fault. He put himself in that situation. He needs to run to his people and let them sympathize with him. Don't scream for black folks now!

CONSENT FORMS

2 words - - - CONSENT FORMS

I have nothing to say about the Kobe thing in terms of the fact that he cheated on his wife. I'm pretty sure it's not the first time and still may not be the last. Can we say.."They all do it". Maybe not all of them, but most of them do. That situation is truly between Kobe-God-and his wife. The adultery side ain't none of my business.

HOWEVER - - for these dumb a$$ athletes, entertainers, and every other stupid adulterous man out there.....have consent forms drawn up. On the nightstand - - next to the condoms - - have the consent forms waiting. When y'all are ready to get down to it, have the gold-digging wench sign it and then y'all can get down and dirty. Teams should even go so far as to have a travelling notary with them - make it really foolproof.

Jim Rome

Right now, Romey is interviewing a Loyola School of Law professor who said she didn't think that Kobe Bean Bryant should bring in Johnnie Cochran because it's a "Colorado case" and that his defense team has Colorado experience.

As an aside, I also wonder if Kobe's advisors would consider even bringing in JC because JC is a lightning rod for controversy, rightly or wrongly. Kobe may not want to be seen as another Ojjjenthal.

Enough already!

I am so sick of the whole Kobe thing. It is disgusting to me to see her picture all over the internet. If anyone of us were a rape victim and the media actually had enough respect NOT to put your identity out there, how horrific for the ASSES on the internet to go out of their way to victimize you again.

I have no opinion one way or another as to whether or not he did it. Just because he is Kobe Bryant NBA player makes no difference to me. People are so quick to jump to conclusions. None of the people out here speculating one way or another know much about the evidence, the story or the statements given in this case. To say because he is in the NBA or is Kobe means he did or didn't do it is absolutely ludicrous. Any person is capable of a crime, even rape, regardless of their status. If Jason Kidd can beat up his wife, Winona Rider can shoplift, Kobe can force himself on a woman. Period.

And on the flip side she could be fabricating the rape aspect of their encounter. We don't know and have not been given the information to make that determination. He could be innocent but that would be because he did not do it not be cause he is a superstar. Being a superstar does not make you innocent, not committing crimes does.

Who he is and what he does should not be a factor in that determination. How can anyone say anything about either one of their character unless you know them personally. Images are often false but, as many of the discussions around this case show, certainly mean a lot.

And what a license to assault that is for those famous people who would do such a thing. What a great way to intimidate future witnesses. Before anyone knew anything about whether or not their is evidence supporting her story she was depicted as a gold digging whore who set him up. No one knew if there was DNA. No one knew if there were bruises. No one knew if their were witnesses who saw or heard anything. All they knew was she accused their precious Kobe, poster boy, so she must be lying. What a wonderful tool to discourage women who are actually raped by celebrities from coming forward.

I ABSOLUTELY think he should be treated as innocent until proven guilty and so should she. Hell, she has not been accused of a crime but has certainly been convicted by many of lying.

On a side note, and from a legal perspective, I do find it interesting that the story went from nothing happened to well, by nothing I mean I had sex with her but it was consensual. That is what I would advise a client accused of sexual assault whose DNA was likely to be found on the accuser to say. If you say nothing happened you have to explain away how your DNA ended up on her but if you say it was consensual you limit the question to the he said she said of whether it really was or was not done with consent.

I think it is unfortunate that in so many ways celebrities are cut so much slack for their alleged crimes when if he was “Kobe from the block” no one would give a damn or act so invested in the outcome. It taints the whole process.

3 sides to every story...

Kobe's ex-girlfriend of 2 months (a sista) Jamika or Jameelah White (I think) was on Larry King with other panelists last night. She talked about her "relationship" with the Kobester.

I agree with Soror Prayerfull. MOST of them cheat. He got caught. I think this is the only thing he is sorry about. I don't put anything past anyone these days. He made the statement, "do I look like I'd do something like that (before he admitted to cheating)? What does a criminal, rapist, drug dealer, etc supposed to look like?

That press conference was a hott mess.

DELTABRAT 07-23-2003 05:01 AM

Has anyone seen "The Life of David Gale?" Saw it last night. For those of you who have, the bathroom scene..yeah, that's how it all goes down. Hot...heavy...heated..a little "rip off my panties" what man wouldn't? A little "slap my ass." What man wouldn't? A little "bite me here and there." What man wouldn't? Next thing you know it's rape WITH evidence and his word against hers.

Problem is is that most men can't think past the panties long enough to know when some $hit is going down. Don't bite/slap/scratch an a broad you don't know, who has NOTHING to lose, while you have everything...job, family, money, etc. idiot!

I hate that this is happening, but when are brothahs going to understand that no matter how big and well liked they are there are ALWAYS going to be some white folks willing and ready to bring you down. Not that there aren't Black but really, the history of this whole Black man meets white girl story is old as dirt and no matter how long it takes (Michael Jordan) they always end up screaming the same $hit. I think it's a set up to be honest. No one new he was in friggin' Colorado, not even his doctor.

That's my take. Tiger...uhm...you betta watch out! Don't think them Swedish/German/Dutch broads won't do the same to yo' a$$...

Um Kobe? Yeah, hi. Can I get you to at LEAST cheat with someone that is of equal or greater attractiveness than your wife? And if it WASN'T consensual, lordy. The chick is not ugly, but why on earth would he cheat on his wife with her? Or rape her if that turns out to be true? DUMBA$$.

this article

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news...23/detail.html

I just read this article and it makes you think. Kobe was in Colorado to have knee surgery. Now if you knee is hurt how are you going to force some one to have sex with you. You might can do it if both parties are agreed but not forced.

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/spor...20/detail.html

This other article shows that the girl was going to some thangs and who knows she could have thrown herself at Kobe.

Maybe it's just me but I feel he is innocent as far as raping her. I feel as though she needed some affection for one night and got it then she wanted something more and he realized he had made a mistake messing with her.

It's interesting that there we have many opinions to this scenario but their are only 2 sides, either which we are not exposed to. However as many opinions as we have ther is one who knows the reason, truth and outcome.....nobody is perfect but God has a way of breaking us down we when do things that displease him such as being unfaithful, maybe we should step back and let whoever rather it is the accuser/vitim or accused/victim learn their life lesson

Like I told my LS yesterday (she had the same sentiments), the _____ (fill in whatever word you want to use) isn't "cute. attractive" either, if you know what I mean. Men don't care what IT looks like, as long as they get to "hit" IT. :o  (Sad, but true).

I thought he was in Colorado for his shoulder. I wondered in the beginning, the same thing TheOne.

I agree. Kobe needed lessons on humility. He always acted to me as being invincible.

Lessons Learned...

Precisely. The only two people who know what happened are Kobe and his ALLEGED victim. I don't know what happened, so I'm still willing to take a wait-and-see attitude.

On another topic, I can't recall how Desiree Washington was identified. Some news organizations must have broken an embargo.

Most reputable news organizations, however, will not publish the name of an alleged rape victim, regardless of her age of maturity or not.
