Just had to throw this out there...

Ashley Hatfield, Miss Illinois, is a Phi Mu from Ole Miss.

I thought so, but I wasn't sure if she won Miss North Carolina, or Miss North Carolina USA.

This is Jessica Jacobs, Miss North Carolina:

Yes! Miss Kansas is a Chi Omega.

FSUZeta 12-12-2007 10:01 AM

miss florida, kylie williams, is an adpi from fl. state.

SthrnZeta 12-12-2007 10:03 AM

Nut, LOL, of course you'd catch that one ;)

Totals so far:

Kappa Delta (1) - Colorado
Phi Mu (2) - Georgia, Illinois
Alpha Delta Pi (2) - North Carolina, Florida
Pi Beta Phi (1) - Arkansas
Chi Omega (1) - Kansas

Interesting to note that both Phi Mus went to Ole Miss but neither are from Mississippi... How weird it must be for them both, sisters from the same chapter competing for Miss America!

I would imagine winning Miss Mississippi is a very tough state pageant -- sometimes it's easier to win the qualifying crown in a "lesser" state pageant! LOL (I'm laughing, but I'm sure there is a grain of truth in that.)

Oh...and I "caught" something else...the two Phi Mus are from different chapters. One from Ole Miss and one from Valdosta State. ;)

A couple of my friends from college competed in the Miss Illinois circut, where one of the Phi Mus is from. It's not a cakewalk, that's for sure. Chicago's got a ton of districts that all send candidates - sheer numbers make it hard to stand out.

I think they are called Pageant Hoppers. They hop from pageant to pageant in their state until they win a local title. I know one year at Ole Miss when a non-Mississippian won Miss University there was some big uproar. But she really was the best contestant that year, even if she was an out-of-state student from Tennessee!

Having a sorority sister in the pageant system - although she's in med school now, I haven't checked up on her lately - she's been qualified to compete in Missouri and Illinois and would do so in both until she won a local one. It is apparently very common.

ETA: Alphafrog's right, my sister found Missouri easier than Illinois, at least at the local/regional levels.

I'm sure that is true -- I've heard Oklahoma is a tough win too.
