The reason why some of ours went limp was because parents were whupping their kids with them. And to make it so bad the kids would actually cry! How you gon cry over someone hitting you with a piece of cardboard and they're not doing it real hard because they don't want to disrupt the service. It got to the point where some members were hiding them behind radiators so they could have the same one next Sunday. As far as AC, the only thing we had was an industrial fan that you couldn't turn on if the organ was on or else it would blow a fuse.

Alaska School DJ Off Air for Reagan Remark

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - A disc jockey at a university radio station who turned a Sunday radio show into a ``celebration'' that Ronald Reagan ``was finally dead'' has been suspended.

The disc jockey, a University of Alaska Fairbanks undergraduate who goes by the call name ``Spider Bui,'' said his show was a reaction to the media's positive portrayal of Reagan after his death Saturday. Managers at KSUA-FM said the show was in poor taste and was put on without permission.

Neither the student nor station staff would reveal the student's real name.

No tape of the show was available. According to the disc jockey, he berated Reagan for his foreign policy in Latin America, Iraq and Afghanistan, and for what the student called a ``homophobic'' response to the AIDS epidemic.

``I said that I was sick of all of the media that was glorifying Reagan and rewriting history that was pretty despicable,'' he said. ``Basically, what the gist of the show was, it was a celebration that Ronald Reagan was dead, was finally dead.''

Yeah I still know people involved in the station. I have some thoughts about the situation, but I can wait to share. This isn't the time or place.

Well, the funeral has just wrapped up and I almost shed a tear at the end. Not because of the situation, but for Nancy. I think that she is so cute. Her and her "Ronnie" were adorable together and she showed so much strenght through the situation. When she was entering Air Force One and waved goodbye, it touched me. I have a feeling that it won't be much longer for Nancy. Not to wish ill upon her, but I find it common for spouses who are extremely close and dependant upon one another to not be far behind when one passes on.

Kudos to Nancy. She looks MUCH better today than the past few days, especially Monday. I empathize with her. Both of my maternal grandparents had Alzheimer's so I know how it can impact a family. My mother was my grandmother's caregiver, so I directly felt the disease's impact. Also, when I saw Nancy, I could see my mother who remained by my father's side while he suffered with cancer, yet displaying strength, courage, grace and dignity.

While I am not a proponent of Reagan; I can empathize and sympathize with Nancy. Loss is always hard, but I'm sure she is comforted in knowing that her loved one is at a better place and that his "physical suffering" is over.


Back to the chuich fans (lol): Many churches had A/C, but the fans were needed (especially for funerals) because so many bodies would be packed in the churches that it seemed as if the A/C did NOT work (body heat). :o

I think that also. Not to be mean to Mrs. Reagan, but the way she has acted throughout the past death (i.e. the state and national funerals) shows that she and Pres. Reagan both had a tight bond. You could see the loss in her eyes.

At times I wondered if it was too much. I look at the fact that she is 83 years old and appears to be fragile. I know that Pres. Reagan was a president and probably loved going out in grand fashion, considering that he was an actor and very visible president. However, I often wondered if Nancy was just saying to herself, "I just want to go home." Pres. Reagan's body has been from coast-to-coast, lying in sate in the Pentagon, visitation in the Reagan Library, etc. I'm sure Nancy put on the "happy" face because that is her duty and part of her character, but I know that she is glad that it's over and she can be at peace with her memories.

How is this any different from what Russ Parr and his cronies said the other day? I don't understand why there are certain things people are not allowed to have opinions about. :confused: Now, just because the man is dead, people have to hold in "negative" opinions? I love how freedom of speech only works when speaking in favor of the status quo. A lot of what this kid said is the truth. But that all gets swept under the rug because it's seen as being in bad taste? When do people get to talk about all the jacked up stuff that this man did? How long does he have to be dead before it's talked about? Or is it protocol that after someone dies, you don't say anything negative about them? Does death erase wrong doings? Maybe I'm in a bad mood today, but WHO CARES??

I don't think his sentiments about what was done by Reagan or his administration was in bad taste...calling it a party to celebrate the fact that the man is dead is what I think put people off. I think that all of the whitewashing of history is ridiculous and dangerous. Yeah, ‘if you don't have anything good to say don't say nothing at all’ sound good but I think a lie of omission is still a lie. It is okay to speak the truth about what went on during the Reagan Administration. I think reveling in the death of anyone is in bad taste no matter how good or bad the person was.

You hit upon the issue, free speech. I know that station from when I was a student at UAF, and I know people still involved there. Let's just say the administration doesn't usually feel the same way as the students. Many of my student fees supported the station, but the station license is held in the name of the Board of Regents. The Dean of Students also sits on the media board.
