O.J.'s Home Searched in Drug Probe By KEN THOMAS, Associated Press Writer MIAMI (AP) - Federal agents searched O.J. Simpson's home early Tuesday as part of an investigation into an Ecstasy drug ring that also laundered money and stole equipment to activate satellite television signals. Eight other people were arrested in Miami and two in Chicago as part of a two-year investigation called Operation X, FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said. Simpson had not been arrested or indicted and Orihuela wouldn't discuss his connection to the investigation. Nine other homes in Miami were also being searched by the FBI along with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Miami-Dade Police Department. Agents arrived at about 6 a.m. and the former football great was at home. In a shot from a television helicopter, Simpson could be seen walking in the backyard in a bathrobe. About two hours after agents arrived, Simpson left the home alone in his sports utility vehicle without talking to reporters. Simpson attorney Yale Galanter arrived at the house and spoke to agents for about 15 minutes. He also left the home without speaking to reporters. Orihuela said the ring imported Ecstasy from Holland and stole equipment used to counterfeit cards that activate satellite television receivers. She also said the ring laundered about $800,000. The incident was not Simpson's first brush with the law since he moved to the neighborhood 15 miles southwest of Miami last year. He was acquitted in a Miami trial Oct. 24 of grabbing another driver's glasses and scratching the man's face in an alleged road-rage argument Simpson said was started by the other guy. Simpson was cleared of criminal charges in the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles, but a civil jury later ordered him to pay $33.5 million for their deaths. |

Ced Gets a Show
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Cedric the Entertainer may yet star in hisown TV series.
Cedric, one of the stand-ups in "The Original Kings of Comedy," is talking with FOX about developing a show for the network. The serieswould be a Jackie Gleason-style blend of scripted and sketch material, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The comedian, a regular on fellow The WB's "The Steve Harvey Show" with fellow King of Comedy Steve Harvey, was slated to star in "Cedric the Coach," which The WB had ordered for midseason. The project collapsed when the show's producer, Artists Television Group, went out of business earlier this year. Cedric will serve as an executive producer of the new show with "In Living Color" alumni John Bowman and Matt Wickline -- who will also write the pilot script -- and Stan Lathan, who will direct the pilot. Should Cedric's show make it to the FOX schedule, all four Kings of Comedy would have their own series. In addition to Harvey, Bernie Mac stars in FOX's "The Bernie Mac Show," while D.L. Hughley heads up "The Hughleys" on UPN. |
