I am so excited for the recolonization of our Beta Mu chapter at the University of Alabama! I hope our presentations go well at Georgia Tech and Florida International University.

I'm curious, with all the nearby presence in California, why has the Stanford University Alpha Phi been unsuccessful? There are a lot of Alumnae in that state and lots of nearby collegiate chapters for support.

APhi4ever, as you know, Stanford still has Greek life. I live about an hour from Stanford. A couple of months ago, I drove through the campus and the Greek presence really didn't grab me (just my opinion). IMO, I think the school officials "tolerate" it (correct me if my assessment is wrong). Also the attitude of the students. Nearby Berkeley and San Jose State are much more for Greek life

Thanks for the comment, that is weird that it really doesn't stand out.

I think that you are on track. Sororities were banned in 1944 and didn't start returning until the late 70s. A reason was to provide similar opportunities as the men's fraternities since they were never banned. Other factors that may contribute to the laidback attitude are 1) FR isn't until April (quarter system) and 2) the residence halls provide ample socialization outlets.

Oh ok, that makes sense. I didn't realize sororities were banned for a period of time. I have noticed these histories for the current/past NPC sororities there:

Kappa Alpha Theta - 1891-1944/1978
Kappa Kappa Gamma - 1892-1944/1978
Pi Beta Phi - 1893-1897/1905-1944/1978
Delta Delta Delta - 1909-1944/1984
Chi Omega - 1915-1944/1990
Alpha Epsilon Phi - 2007

Delta Gamma - 1887-1944/1979-1999
Alpha Phi - 1899-1944/1978-? (We did recolonize but were unsuccessful a 2nd time around) :(
Gamma Phi Beta - 1905-1944/1978-1992
Alpha Omicron Pi - 1910-1944
Sigma Kappa - 1915-1930
Alpha Chi Omega - 1979-1982
Sigma Delta Tau - 1983-?
