I attend a majority school in Texas, and things are much different at our school. People show up to rush just looking any ole sort of way....

...well my defining moment at MY RUSH was when I snagged my stockings during the drive to campus, so me and 2 of my future line sisters panicked, but we just said we were going to sit in the back....low and behold, the moment we sat down, sorors were like "ya'll come up front, we want to see you all".
So there I am in the front row, with a track meet going down my leg (several runs)....so during the individual introductions, I just stood up and said, my name is so and so and I have a huge run in my stocking!:D Why did about 3 of them say "we know, we can see it from way back here!" and they started laughing!
I was so emburrusssed :(
but...it turned out OK!

:D :D

There were of course, girls in red, girls who looked like they just rolled out of bed, a girl with flip-flops on, etc. I couldn't believe it. The one that took the cake was this girl who had on a see-through shirt! Many of the older graduate sorors were there and we were just all embarassed for her. I was like "what would possess you to go there?". I really want to pull some of the ladies to the side just to "talk" to them, I just really wanted to ask them if they realized how utterly disrespectful they were being.
The dumbest question, by far, was this one:

"Um, so, like, what do y'all talk about at your chapter meetings? What do you y'all do?"

I just wanted to reschedule the rush for another day. That did it for me.

Soror, maybe I'm just too mean but in my opinion, if a woman doesn't know enough to dress professionally for Rush, perhaps she isn't ready to be a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha. I say that these women need a little more time to come up to par on their own b/c they are clearly not ready. Maybe I need to learn to be more understanding but I say that the sorority is just not for everyone.

You and I are on the same page. I kept saying the same thing. That is when the seasoned sorors were like "that is why they need mentors like you to help them." My reply was "they don't need ME, they need Jesus". I was serious, what would possess anyone to wear a see-through shirt to any professional event. This is not a night club. I really wanted to just reschedule the rush for another day, I didn't feel like any of them were ready. But, alas, I didn't have a vote. Plus, I was only about 2 weeks old myself, *shrugging shoulders* what do I know?

I don't necessarily think you're mean. You make a good point.

Okay, you're '04 grad chapter and you and your grad chapter sorors were at an undergraduate rush.

Got it ;)

Me too! I thought to myself, wow, that is quick turnover :)

I know folks want to join in on my DST MIP thread but to keep it Delta only, it's going to stay closed, but here is a thread where others in the NPHC can throw in their off the wall MIP questions as well as off the wall rush memories. I might split it later.

Ok, here it goes. When I was in school, we had our first informational since Spring '97 was intitiated. We weren't looking forward to bringing in any more girls (you know neos are territorial). Anyway, these girls come in and greet us by saying "Hey future Soror, when can I get my packet?"

This is one story from the many I have hidden in my "I don't want to go there today" file.

Me too! I think there should be a rule: You are not allowed to wear white stockings unless you are a baby or a nurse. ;):D

I was a freshman at the time and on my campus you have to be at least a sphomore to pledge (so...I didn't go). But, I did see lots of interest with red suits and red pumps!!!! One sistah had red finger nails with some kind of white design on them!!!! My suite-mate wore a "Future Delta" tee-shirt (that was the first time I had ever seen one of those shirts)!!! I thought it was a bad idea...it just seemed a little premature to me.....

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why oh WHy did she have to preface her statement with that. She may have been fine if she left that part off. I take it she didn't make that line.

You could cut the tension in the room with a knife....

Needless to say, ONCE YOU LEAVE... THERE IS NO RE-ENTRY. :o

FFR (For Future References): Make sure your phone is off, on vibrate or summin. ;) Tell your peeps don't contact you for one, two, three hours. :D

I agree. While I do believe that one should grow within their organization, I do not believe that a GLO should be a training ground or boot camp for the entire girl-to-woman transition. Some of these stories boil down to the lack of common sense...but like my grandmother used to say, common sense ain't common. ((sighing and shaking my head)):(
