I need motivation!! I've been working on a project for hubby that just won't end... and I really want to toss it aside. Can't do that, tho. So, someone please give me ideas to restore my patience. :)

spoiling hubby lol. he has this 'man room' plan, and asked me to stitch something for him a couple years ago. it was huge and took like 5 months to finish, then he decided to torture me again. had to be (about) the same size, related to hunting. yeah. so, i found this kit on ebay for a norman rockwell xstitch. dummy me didn't bid on it and missed out. showed him the picture in the completed auction. HE went and begged me to find it somewhere else. of course, i did. sooo.... i am now trying to finish this stinkin norman rockwell of a man and his hunting dog companion. i'm sure it will look great when it's finished, but ugh. i started it maybe 3 months ago, and it's just now 1/2 finished. in one of my (many) late nights recently, i noticed that the stupid dog isn't lining up w/ the rest of the piece, and I SO don't want to take 1/2 of it out! hence the desire to toss it aside. of course, it may be easily fixed, but i can't bring myself to look at it any more.

This thread reminded me (again!) how much I desperately need to make a scrapbook!!! I've been saving up stuff for one, and it has turned into a drawer...but I never seem to get around to doing it! Ah well, such is the life of me!

well, i have only finsihed one of the xstiches i have ever done, so honestly i am not hte one to help with this. the rest are in a bag on the bottom of the closet. is it a stamped xstich or counted? if it is counted, i am definately no help bc i don't have the patience for that...

-take it outside and stich while you are hanging out in the sun.
-the faster the print gets finished the soon the hubby can hang in his man room and get out of your hair...j/k.

all i have to say is... i'm glad we're sisters. :)
i'm kind of bad about finishing my xstitch of momentary choice, but it's a lil different when it's for hubby. he tends to pester me a lot, especially when i'm trying to work on it.
and, for the record, it's counted. w/ about 50 or so colors.
if only your idea about the man room were true! he has this crazy plan that i'm going to paint it for him, then he'll put new flooring of some sort in and hang these things. sure, the flooring won't be an easy job, but it's his room. therefore, he should at least help paint. at least, that's how i see things.

Most all of my x-stitches are smaller patterns, but I've never done one with 50 different colors :eek: Best of luck with that!

Usually when I'm working on a larger pattern & have to count blocks for a large area of space to start stitching again, I count the space about 10 times to make sure I got it right (those blocks are so tiny!).. and even then, sometimes I end up a little of... I try my best to compensate for it though.. like if I'm off by a teensy few that isn't too noticable, I'll condense the middle section inward or outward depending if I under- or over-counted my space.

thanks texas*princess... i'm gonna need that luck i think. it was going so well, and i found a mistake. fixed that one w/ no problem, but this is much bigger. i'm hoping that i've just miscalculated and the oops won't be as bad as it looks right now.
the finished size will be about 10x12" and is one of the largest i've done. (hubby's other one is about 9x15") before that, i stuck with 8x10 or smaller. what was i thinking? lol

I still have all of my pics, placecards, notes, rush nametags, etc. from DZ in a box...I have been telling myself I will scrapbook it, but I just haven't. I even have the agenda from my very first meeting! I just can't seem to trust myself to pick layouts that I will be happy with for the rest of my life, so I keep procrastinating!

Also, while waiting for pix to develop in Wal-Mart the other day I discovered that they have a craft section (I did not know this, as my discount shopping is done at Target...). This gave me the huge urge to learn to crochet. I am ADHD, so I am always fiddling anyway...might as well get something productive out of it!

So is it easy? It looks interesting and what is really exciting is the selection of different kinds of yarn and the different colors. Do you think this is something I can do?

It not too difficult. I taught myself how to crochet from a book I picked up at Walmart, and after making a few trial dishcloths, I crocheted a hat and scarf.

Next I'm going to take up knitting, which seems like it will be much more difficult.

I feel your pain. I've been working on the same darn x-stitch for over a year now. I think it's 14"x15" - it's the cat-on-a-bookshelf one I described earlier in this thread. Lesson learned: NEVER stitch on black aida cloth.

BetaRose, knitting is not hard to learn at all. I find crochet much more difficult... I've tried it and let's just say the results weren't pretty.

I'm sure you'll make it through your project eventually, with many headaches behind you. I definitely know what you're going through!

OK, what is this Mod Podge stuff??? Sounds perfect for what I want to do! I've made collaged diary covers for myself, and wanted to do other things but couldn't figure out how to cover / seal it. Could I get this stuff at Hobby Lobby?
And I'm also addicted to scrapbooking. Actually I'm addicted to taking pictures and scrapbooking was the only way to control the massive amounts of photos!

Tigerlily -- you can usually find Mod Podge at most all crafty stores including Hobby Lobby.

There are so many types of Mod Podge!

I'm not a big Mod Podger (is that a word? :p) because I don't know more about it..
