Talked with my sister-mother for the 1st time in a couple of years. Before that, it was a couple of decades.

Super excited cause she's gonna help us with our reorganizing the House Association!:D

Laurie Upshaw Hale - Chapter Grand

I have never met our sister but I read her obit in today's AJC. She was born in 1910 and initiated into Gamma Alpha Chapter in 1930.

A pledge sister that I haven't talked to in about a decade called me tonight and we chatted for about an hour. It's like we never lost touch!

We hope to relocate near where she's living now so that will be cool!

Oh..forgot to mention that she works in a judge's office and knows the husband of a chapter sister...but didn't realize it, lol. He's a probation officer but retiring in a couple of weeks.

It's fun getting reconnected!

I am very proud to call her my sister.

I got this in an email today and it reminded me of all of my Alpha Gam sisters:

Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT - Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles
are between you. A girlfriend is never farther away than needing her.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by
yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering
you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf,
and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you, or
come in and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters,
sisters-in-law, mothers, grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins and
extended family all bless our life.
When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the
incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead, nor did we know how much we
would need each other.
Every day, we need each other still.

became facebook friends with the brother of my Sister-Mom yesterday... and today he sent me her email address prior to me even asking him how she is doing. I haven't talked to her in a few years. We've already emailed each other today.

DoctorD 09-16-2008 10:22 PM

I got an email that one of my pledge sisters died unexpectedly in her sleep Saturday evening. She had 2 small children.

I haven't talked with her in years - we did some things together when we lived in the house near each other, but I lost touch with her after graduation.

Always hits too close to home, though, when it is someone you remember vividly - and I would guess she was 39 or 40.

DD, that's so sad!

It's very hard to understand why things like that happen.

I thought of this thread earlier this week when I signed on to facebook, and the newest member of my tree friended me and posted on my wall.

I've never met her (in fact, I've never me the three youngest members of my tree), but I thought it was so sweet that she was reaching out!

My daughter was awarded her Girl Scouts Silver Award today at a big banquet and awards ceremony. We had to pick up her folder at the registration table and I noticed that another member of the Western Wayne County Alumnae Club's daughter was also going to be there to get her Silver Award. (Natalie, for those who are familiar with our club). Then I was browsing through the program and saw ANOTHER name that was familiar.. our Treasurer's daughter was ALSO getting her Silver Award. We took a picture of the 3 Alpha Gam moms and our daughters after they'd received their awards. It was very cool. We all knew the others were involved in Girl Scouts too and we talk about Scouts a lot and how much it is like being in a sorority but none of us realized the others were getting their Silvers today too! It was fun :) Inspiring our Daughters, Impacting the World!

Getting a Silver Award is a big deal! Congratulations to your little one, AGDee! And congratulations to all three legacies! :)

Sad to read in the Q that a Gamma Alpha has passed away. I met Anne and her sister Bonnie when we lived in the GA house one summer.
