Okay...WTH is up with Jessica getting slapped in the next show? That is seriously messed up!

Actually, today's episode seemed like they are getting more used to the cameras being there. I just got that vibe. Like they still care how they look and everything, but they have let their guard down a little. And I have actually caught people skipping out on retreat before, so let's not pretend that is something that never happens.

I feel for the other girls. It seems like the non-house girls really try to act normal and sisterly, but I think it was a big mistake for them to agree to air their laundry on national TV...now they know!

I think planning the In-House without even asking/discussing it with the girls in the house first was a bad move. It's understandable to need a break and want to get out of the house, but the fact that they had to go to a bar further convinces me that they are alcoholics! And while I do agree that asking Jessica to break the rules with them was very childish, at least they finally addressed the issue with her instead of whispering behind her back, "omigod, maybe she's a spy!"

Next episode should be interesting...I too want to know what the heck the slap was about.

Side note: Wow! We actually saw the SAEPi sisters involved in an episode...it wasn't entirely about Jordan and Candace!

"Mitzvah" in this context refers to a good deed. Mitzvah Day is a day spent doing community service. You don't have to be Jewish to participate - you just have to want to help your community in some way. Candace decided not to participate - so she's "un-mitzvah-y".

Due to the separation between the pledges in the house and the pledges not living in the house, someone on Becca's committee planned a three day "In-House Retreat" for all the pledges at the Pledge House. The pledge-house girls felt really inconvenienced. Amanda had three midterms and she pretty much stayed in her room. Mara, Jordan, Amanda, and Candace complained that the activities and crafts were dumb.

Amanda, Jordan, and Candace decide to sneak out of the house before everyone came over and went to a bar for some drinks. They stopped at Starbuck on the way home to cover the alcohol and are caught by Leslie. We saw snippits of SAEPi meetings discussing how the In-House went, how the pledge-house girls felt, and the fact that some of them weren't participating which defeated the purpose.

Candace got a little closer to some of girls while doing make-overs. Later, she got in an arguement with Jordan over a silly comment Jordan made that Candace took offense to. They later have a heart-to-heart about why Jordan is the way she is and her obsession with her appearance.

Jordan and Candace talk to Jessica about her feelings about breaking house rules. She says she doesn't want to break them but that she won't tell on them if they do. She says she'll keep it confidential even though she's in the ackward position of being close to pledges not in the house as well as sisters. Candace replies that they would feel better about breaking the rules if Jessica broke them with the other girls. Jordan suggests they all pick a night, have a house drinking night, and chat.

Scenes for next week: Jessica gets slapped by Sylvia at the bar.

hmmm...

I don't know what it is...maybe it's the east coast sorority girl in me...maybe I went to a campus where everyone liked to party and have a good time! I relate more to Candace and Jordan than any of the actual sisters. They enjoy going out and having fun! The sisters go to the bar, sit and watch Candace and Jordan enjoy themselves! Then they go home and bitch about them being "un-Sigma!". Someone needs to define what "Sigma" is, because if it's sitting around and bitching about other girls having fun, I wouldn't want to join! And I think Jordan has a point about the sisters not getting to know them and such. You never see the sisters anywhere but at the bar watching over the pledges. They don't come to events, they don't stop by the house. If all they see is them out at the bar doing their thing, how is that getting to know them and helping unite them?

Kudos to James, because I agree that Jessica is no model pledge! She's a little butt kisser who is soooo annoying! I would be willing to bet she would rat out the other girls for drinking if she sees them doing it. As for Becca, she's the only sister I really sort of like, but she needs to just chill out before she has a breakdown. And the sisters just need to stop bitching to her about the pledges.

I don't agree with this statement at all. Just because someone goes to the bar to have a drink does not make them an alcoholic. When I used to work at the hospital a lot of times me and my co-workers would stop by a bar/pub/restaurant and have a drink. My husband stops every night on his way home and has one beer with the guys during Happy Hour. Going to a bar is a way to unwind from a long day and socially interact with others.

Ok, I'm done...

LexiKD 07-23-2002 11:15 AM

I have to agree that taking time to go to a bar doesn't seem like an issue to me(I didn't see the show). From the 2 shows I have seen I do think they are making them look more unlady like then they are, but then again, it's MTV. Remember these women are 18-22 and a majority of their social life is about going out and drinking I don't think that is atypical.

I'm 24 and my girlfriends and I meet on Tuesday nights for wine nights and I don't think that blowing off steam and having a few drinks are a problem.

They are trying to make them look like certian types so we can all remember them like, "You remember the pretty drunk one or the chubby goodie goodie...." I mean it's TV and although the show isn't the best idea, I don't think they are showing anything that doesn't happen....that doesn't mean I would suggest such an idea of MTV following anyone, but it hasn't been that bad...not good but no Sexy Sorority Sweethearts either.

maggieaxid 07-23-2002 11:49 AM

i don't think they are alchoholics...they are in college, give them a break and i am sure that mtv has decided to focus on their drinking habits. not to say that before candace turned 21 they showed her drinking... but i agree that they should not do it in the house, and it's not "their" house...its SigmaAETT's house, and they chose to live there. So they need to abide by the rules of SigmaAETT.

as for jessica, i totally agree that she is no goody goody and that mtv is totally pretending she is. i mean, the girl was shaking her ass on the bar! thats "un-sigma" like too!!!!

LeslieAGD 07-23-2002 12:10 PM

I tend to use the word "alcoholic" very loosely. I did not mean that they are addicts but, in the context of the MTV show, practically all we see them doing is drinking. I'm sure MTV is playing it up, but if anytime something is good, bad, boring, stressful, etc they say "let's go drink!" then IMO they drink too much.

The average college weeks consists of at least two party nights during the week. At my campus its Tuesday and Thursday, with Thursday being the big one.

Friday and Saturday are party nights also, but bigger off campus.

So if they go out twice a week its easy to have a lot of party footage.

XiLovin 07-23-2002 01:29 PM

I think that Jessica is a suck up. I can not stand that girl. If anyone is being fake, I think it is her. That is just my opinion.

I really don't think that the "pledge house girls" fit in this sorority. (well, the original five anyway) I don't think they are being fake, I do however think that they know that they don't fit and don't really care. That isn't to say that I hate them at all. I think they are normal partying girls.

I just don't think that Sigma is the house for them. If the sisters thought that they were being exclusive this quarter, just wait until those five have a hand in rush. Some of them seem to live for being exclusive.
