I stand corrected...I'm sorry-she is a Delta Zeta but, Rue McClanahan is Kappa Alpha Theta....when Blanche talked about her Alpha Gam sisters-maybe she was referring to her actual chapter name.....like maybe she was the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta (if they have one named that) because I realize that on television, usually you have to be careful to not use your own letters (for some organizations) and I'm not sure if Theta is one of the organizations that would not appreciate her using her actual letters-but, sorry and disregard earlier post......

She was a member at their Tulsa (Gamma Tau) chapter. Mary Kay Place was also a member of their Tulsa chapter (my gf at TU was a Theta so I heard all this back then).

For Alpha Xi stuff, I know that Fozzie was created for us since Jane Hensen is an Alpha Xi and our mascot is the Fuzzies. And I hear that the first Kermit the Frog was made from curtains of an Alpha Xi Delta house.

The prototype for Kermit was made from a coat that Jim Henson's mom threw in the garbage.

Jim Henson went to my alma mater, U of Maryland and my graduating class sponsored a statue of Kermit that is on campus.

His wife Jane Nebel Henson graduated from Maryland in 1955. I have never seen anything officially stating that she was an AXiD at Maryland- just stuff on chapter websites.
While I was on campus it was legend that Fozzie was named after an AXiD and that Miss Piggy was named after a Phi Sigma Sigma (which had the unfortunate nickname Phi Piggy Piggy.)

Disputing the Jane Henson/Fozzy/AXiD legend is this:
"Fozzie was named after puppet builder Faz Fazakas, who created the
mechanism that allowed Fozzie to wiggle his ears."

This link should also clear up some muppet misconceptions- this article says she was an Alpha Phi Delta- which I have never heard of....

On the Fresh Prince

The colors of the show name and credits are pink and green. Soror Yvette Bowser Lee is the executive producer. :D

This may have been posted already... but Carter (Noah Wyle) on ER is/was a Sigma Nu. It's stated in the episode "No Strings Attached." Carter goes SCUBA diving in Belize with his brothers.

She could just use another organization's letters for the character...I don't know why any headquarters would get their panties in a wad about being mentioned on Golden Girls...I know their pretty spicy for their age, but still...but if Kappa Alpha Theta said no, maybe she used Alpha Gam because, really, what's it to her if our International gets upset?

Although Fozzie may have not been named for AXiD he did originally have pink roses on his bow in honor of AXiD. Jane and Jim met at the Univ. of Maryland (now a closed chapter)

Look, do you know this for a fact? Because after reading a lot of these, there's just no proof. They're urban legends. There are several cases where there's a known connection between a director, writer, etc. and a GLO, but if Jane was indeed an Alpha Phi Delta, WHY would there be pink roses on his bow for AXiD?

Perhaps they were pink because they look good with his brown coat!

Jane Henson is an Alpha Xi Delta from the Beta Eta Chapter at Univ. Of Maryland(1934 - 2000). She is even recognized by our Nationals. She is listed in our Bonds of Sisterhood book (new member manuel). She was not Alpha Phi Delta. And as for the pink rose, that is AXiD's flower.

Sorry if I came off gruff but most of this thread is ridiculous. That's the first time someone's actually posted that Jane Henson is recognized as an AXiD and not simply one more celebrity claimed by XYZ. (Dr. Suess' wife I'm looking at you).

However I am smart enough to know that the rose is your flower. I'm simply expressing disbelief that everything someone (or their spouse) does is colored by their GLO. Above someone claimed Fozzie was named for AXiD, now it's the flower, etc. I'm not picking on AXiD, you were just the most recent poster.

My school's chapter of AXID claims that their current mascot Betxi Bear was created by Jim for Jane. Perhaps that is where the confusion of Fozzie might have occured? Someone substituting one for another. (I have no way of knowing if this is 100% because I don't remember if I read it on the AXID national site at one time or not though!)

BetXi Bear was created by another alum. Can't remember her name at the moment.

Other than that, I've got nothing.

LOL on Estelle Leonard!:D That was my maternal great grandmother's name! She was not AXO, though. ;)

Not a symbol, but there was an episode of Sex and the City where Charlotte has lunch with her Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters. Any connections?

Theta Phi doesn't have many (or any) celeb alums that I'm aware of, but penguins do seem to be EVERYWHERE (March of the Penguins, Happy Feet) lately!
