I attended a rehearsal of house tours day at a chapter last weekend. They didn't do any of the chanting/singing stuff outside and the only singing was inside, not especially loud and seemed very odd to me. I wanted the crazy! But it's true that the first time a newbie experiences that they do nearly wet themselves. No amount of prep gets you ready for that explosion when the first door of the first house opens.

Best of all great luck to all the young ladies going through recruitment at Texas this year! I'm hopeful that all PNMs find a great home for the next four years and that each of their experiences in so doing will be a richly rewarding one. And a great big thank you to all the actives and volunteers at each sorority house for being so thoughtful, welcoming, patient and kind to all PNMs invited into their homes. Your hard work and dedication to doing things the correct way is praiseworthy. Here's to a wonderful last few days to everyone involved! Hook 'Em!

Bid Day is today!! Good luck to all of the wonderful girls who stuck it through this past week!

When do the girls get their bids? My rec girl went through this rush.

Do we know if the piggybacking happened on Saturday?
Or the glitter bombing happened yesterday? |

The PNM's are supposed to be at Hogg Auditorium at 5:00. Chiolu...I have not heard if the piggy backing or glitter throwing happened this year:rolleyes: Dance party for sure happened. |
Does UT or do the individual sororities publish a bid list? In case I can't find my girls amidst a sea of happy new faces:)
|
UT has not published bid lists in the past, so probably not going to happen this year.
I just heard quota is Primary (freshmen) 48 + Secondary (upperclassmen) 13 |
So, lower quota than last year

Lower quota
I'm beginning to think the tougher admissions standards and changing demographics are lowering the amount of interest in Greek life. UT is more like UCLA now than Albama or LSU.

Well I know with lots of my daughters friends they couldn't get into UT. They now only take top 8% as automatic admission. More of her friends and alumni kids this year went out of state or private universities. When we went on a campus visit last spring they specifically told us that it doesn't matter who your parents are, they want diversity and unique. I think this reflects in the Greeklife culture specifically in this environment and city where for more and more it really isn't their thing. My daughter also had several friends who thought it would be to hard to juggle sorority and classwork especially her good friends that got into McCombs business school.
We are still trying to figure what she will want to balance should she get in here this year or if she chooses to go elsewhere. |
Totally agree
^^^agree!
Getting accepted at UT is so difficult now. My high school senior daughter has decided on Florida or Auburn. Most of her friends are going out of state next year. And they all have great test scores,GPAs, etc. They simply aren't in the top 8% at their competitive schools. |
My senior son goes to a private non-ranking high school. He's got automatic admin to other big state schools schools WITH money promised, and a very slim chance of getting into UT. While it makes me sad in a nostalgic way (his dad and I met at UT), we have to deal in reality.
