ok, so the same "stupid questions" are going to be asked anyway and no one is changing their attitudes so whats new? To be honest, anyone who is active in their house knows that the same questions are asked time and time again each semester and so they get answered in a way that the prospective rushee gets enthusiastic about going greek and that is what we want. We don't want to be rude and discourage them because we are tired of being asked the same questions. We want to encourage not discourage. How many can say they are sick of repeating the history of their chapter establishment or even the establishment of your particular sorority? The answer is never!

I doubt anyone is going to change who they've been their whole lives because of something you posted on a message board. Seriously.
I've never asked anyone to change their personality, I really wouldn't give a hoot if they did; nor am I about to change mine, which is to say that when someone is rude, I will call them on it.

My point (which you obviously missed) is that everyone has a right to ask anything they damn well please, and if regulars are tired of the same questions, imagine how tired other regulars are of hearing "go search" and "all Greeks are equal, go into rush w/ an open mind" as responses.

SERIOUSLY.

No one said that they thought they would change anyone's opinion or their manners, but at least we can show the rest of the world that we aren't all the same-making rude comments to new comers and having arrogant attitudes. That is EXACTLY what we are saying we aren't to the world, and then have too many exposing that very attitude. It doesn't matter what kind of fancy description of great things you have done or are doing, if you appear to be a jerk to those who want to ask questions or express their opinions on this board.

I thought not.

People on the internet deserve the same respect.

KappaGirl...I agree...you would respect those when they knew you in person, it only give us a bad name when we're rude in any forum. I like to stick up for my sisters too!!

All I'm saying is this. Obviously "calling people out" on being rude isn't working, so maybe that's not the best approach. I suppose there's a difference between doing that and attempting to change personalities, but both are futile attempts, as proven by this board.

As a non-greek who hopes to BECOME greek, all I have to say about the way greeks present themselves is the following. There are some rude and arrogant people I've met from the org I want to be a part of. HOWEVER, I am intelligent enough to know that they are not representative of the org as a whole, and certainly not of greek life in general.

JUst a note on communicating, where possible people should confront others in private (email) if they think a specific person is being rude or whatever, and they think they have the moral authoriyt to call the person on it.

In private people are generally less defensive.

I don't remember anyone ever saying "all Greeks are equal" relative to rush. As far as telling people to go into rush with an open mind, I'll keep saying that till I'm blue in the face. Why? Because it makes sense. Would you rather see responses like "the Omega Mu's suck, unless you're desperate don't pledge them"? I'm sure that would go over well. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

There aren't always people on here from the schools the rushees are asking about, and I'd rather give a generic response than have them feel ignored.
